In Italy, the law allows you to rent a car from 18 years old, although many car rental agencies will require you to be at least 21. You need to have held a license for a year and you may have to pay a younger driver surcharge if you’re under 25.
Central Florence features some areas that are designated as ZTLs – limited traffic zones that require a special permit to enter by car. As a result, the very center of the city is easier to explore on foot. Aside from that, you’re permitted to drive in the wider city and beyond.
