We stayed at this hotel for three days with a tour group. Apparently, everyone had different style rooms. Our room was large, had a bar type area with sink, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator...very pleased with this configuration. We also used the washer and dryer which didn't cost very much.
This used to be owned by "The Dick" and had a sign in front that said "Parking for BMW motorcycles only". He was a big supporter of motorcyclists, especially those riding the Dempster, and of the annual Dust to Dawson motorcycle gathering. Since it was early April, we were NOT on our BMW, but rather in a nice warm 4X4 pickup. Stayed 3 nights waiting for the blizzard on the Dempster to move out. Very nice front desk staff - gave us a free upgrade from the annex to the main hotel. Clean rooms, include a fridge and a micro-zapper. Restaurant was not so good - food badly undercooked, lackadaisical service.
Spent 3 nights. Rooms were very loud. Could hear person in next room coughing etc. Person upstairs walking around. The showers had great water pressure. Staff was friendly. Booked a number of rooms for our group. Married couples, single men, we all got 2 double beds. overall unfortunately the noise ruined it for me.
I placed a RSVP via Booking, com for June. That website did NOT show the hotel has a NON-REFUNDABLE cancelation policy. So now I'm coerced and extorted to stay there in June with no possibility of getting a refund from a canceled RSVP. DO NOT STAY HERE and be advised Booking.com does not highlight the non-refund cancelation till after you place the RSVP.
Nothing special but the rooms were clean and spacious. Bathroom sink and mirror separate from tub and toilet which was convenient. The hotel is centrally located. Hotel restaurant was excellent. Staff was very accommodating. We were able to drop off and leave a vehicle here while canoeing between Whitehorse and Dawson.
Don't be put off from staying here out of season,as much if the town is closed. Comfortable rooms with the facilities required for a stop over, but definitely not for a romantic stay or luxury holiday. Breakfast choice is very good much better than dinner menu which is typical burgers and fries attire in the adjoining bar that seemed to attract the locals. Internet is free
Every hour or so the heating system went off like a gun in the room, and if that didn't wake me, the sound of the couple next door having reasonably volumed sex sure did. The rooms were clean, and the service was friendly. Awesome location. The room we booked with the wet bar had a microwave and a sink, but no dishes, cutlery, or paper towel to clean up the spill I made mickey-mousing a paper coffee cup as a soup bowl.
good hotel to stay at very clean there is a restaurant and bar- bank cibc same block stroll dawson good library in town -good deli called the bonaza one block away good sandwiches-fruit shopping one block away
We go to Dawson City every Labor Day weekend to play in the softball tournament. Go Brother Jimmy's!! We have stayed at a number of hotels throughout the years and decided to give the Downtown a shot. Most of the folks we travel with stay at the Bunkhouse. The Downtown Hotel has nice clean rooms with private bath and hot showers. The front desk folks were helpful and kind. The location was very central in Dawson City so walking home from Diamond Tooth Gerties or The Pit late at night is a simple task. Watch your step on the boardwalk at all times, especially late at night!
I stayed in the Annex, which is right across the street from the main hotel. I tried to get everything in my room in one trip, (so my arms were full of stuff) and open the door. Put the key in the door, turned the key, and pushed, and nothing happened. Tried again, and nothing. Finally went back to the front desk, and told the nice woman there that the key didn't work. She came to the room, put the key in, turn it, hit the door with her knee and it opened right up. I felt like a fool, but I didn't know the secret code. She was very nice about the whole thing, and we joked about it later when I saw her. All in all it was a great place, in an interesting town. The beds are great. The very best part is the staff. Everyone I met was friendly, always smiling. I wouldn't say this is "a quaint" hotel for the area. They are all modeled in the time period of gold rush time.
