A true escape
Getting to Daufuskie Island is something of an ordeal and once you arrive, you'll have very limited dining and shopping options. This will turn some travelers off, but for us it was heaven!
If you are enticed by near-empty-beaches, fascinating and complex history, nature in abundance, welcoming people, and ancient moss-draped live oaks, you will likely love Daufuskie and this home is a perfect choice for staying in comfort close to the beach.

Best Cottage on the Row!
Staying in this cottage made our trip to Daufuskie. I think every family member took a turn with a nap on the porch swing! The house is beautifully appointed, very clean and has lots of interesting books and island info. It's just steps from the beach and a short cart ride or walk to the pool. It had everything that we needed to make delicious meals and really feel at home - Debbie was super responsive with any questions and tips as to island happenings. We were visiting with another family who stayed in a "beachfront" cottage and the most of the shared meals that were supposed to be split between houses were at our cottage because it was so great!

Beautifully furnished, location is couldn’t be closer to the beach. Grand old trees & nature/wildlife abound. What’s not to love. Thank you for sharing paradise.

Lovely cottage but interesting stay
The cottage is well decorated however unfortunately we had some issues with flying cockroaches the first day we got in which through off the rest of stay. The entire island was without electricity for 3 hours due to a storm which tells us generators are needed. on the island as storms are inevitable during summer.
We also were very surprised to learn that the Melrose community we were staying in went bankrupt thus leaving many of the surrounding homes boarded up. The community pool was dirty and not well cared for.
We are glad we visited but not someplace we would come back. People need to know it takes a lot of coordination to get to the island and you may be disappointed once arriving.

Wonderful relaxing stay!
My husband and I scheduled a last minute trip to step away from the craziness of the world for total relaxation. We didn't know what to expect as this was our first trip to the island, but we were very pleased. The property was updated, very clean and the kitchen well stocked. Communication with property management was excellent. We spent our time walking on the beach, which was a short distance away, sitting on the magnificent porch and exploring the island by golf cart. We mostly cooked but did eat at Daufauski Crab Company, which was good. We hated to leave, but will be back later this year to stay at this property. **Note that you have to pass the abandoned resort building and a couple of boarded up cottages.

Wonderful Place
We had an amazing time on the island and the house has everything you need for your Daufuskie stay. Deborah was attentive and easily accessible and has great knowledge about the area. We spent alot of time hanging on the front porch with the kids eating, napping on the swing while listening to the waves crash on thebeach at high tide. We would highly recommend this place (family of four)

Perfect beach getaway
Let’s start with the house. At less than 100 yards from the beach with views of the ocean from the front porch, it is an ideal setting. You are right in the heart of the island - ten minutes on a cart from just about anything the island has to offer. The house is clean, well stocked in the kitchen, with ample reading nooks and relaxation spots. Everything is easy to find and we didn’t encounter a single “I wish this house had...” moment.
Communication with Deborah, the property manager, was quick, easy and clear. She is clearly a knowledgeable professional who loves her work. Our only regret was the shortness of the stay. We will definitely come back.
Daufuskie is a unique place. It is luxurious but not extravagant, beautiful but not man-made, fun without cheap entertainment, mysterious but not haunted. It is not a trip you will soon forget. It is a place that time (and development) has seemingly forgot - and that is a good thing. If you go, be respectful of its residents, both human and otherwise, and the rich history and culture that surround you.

We loved the property. The front wrap around porch was wonderful. A great place to have dinner in the evening and a cup of coffee on the swing in the morning. It was very family and pet friendly. Deborah was extremely helpful with information for arrangements and things to do. The beaches were relaxing and not crowded. Everything about the island was laidback and simple. A great place to go and unwind. We will be back!

Relaxing long weekend!
The house is comfortable and beautifully furnished with a wonderful wrap around front porch with views of the ocean. Only a short walk or golf court ride to the uncrowded beach. We saw bald eagles, wood storks, egrets, herons and a variety of other birds while walking in the area. Don’t ’ miss Lucy Bells for lunch.

Do Daufuskie!
The property was perfect! Tips for first timers to Daufuskie:
1: take the water taxi; it’s a fun experience and quicker than the ferry- we took MayRiver Excursions and fell in love with Olde Town Bluffton, too!
2: The only air conditioned restaurant (with actual servers) is Melrose Beach Club restaurant which is conveniently less than a 3 minute cart ride from the cottage. All of the public restaurants were very good but, had we known the other two were outdoor eating we would have planned for earlier lunch or later dinner the first few days we were on the island.
3: come stocked with groceries and snacks..they aren’t kidding about no grocery store on the island. And you’ll likely grow tired of the same menu at the 3 available restaurants.
4: explore the island and all it has to offer...and I highly recommend visiting the school grounds coffee for a refreshing iced lemonade!
Thanks, Deborah for being so accommodating and welcoming us to your home island! And thanks to the property owners for sharing such a sweet cottage with us!
