Isabelle & Alain open the doors of a charming authentic traditional Bresse farmhouse, very carefully restored, nestled on the edge of fields in the heart of a residential hamlet on the outskirts of the small typical village of Damerey known for housing the very unusual "Bresse-Castille" castle (located a stone's throw from the gîte), a "fairytale" residence mixing Castilian and local architecture, adorned with sculptures of animals of all kinds (a major French "outsider art" work classified as a Historical Monument). In the heart of the unspoiled countryside, on the border of the Chalonnais and Bresse regions of Burgundy, lies a peaceful landscape blending agriculture and unspoiled nature (largely classified as a ZNIEFF for its rich flora and fauna), perfect for relaxing walks or bike rides. Nestled in a plain of cultivated fields and hedged meadows dotted with idyllic ponds, it's close to wild woodlands (including the vast Gergy communal forest, the literal "green lung" of the area), as well as the banks of the Saône and Doubs rivers (a true paradise for kayakers and anglers thanks to its renowned fishing spots). Both are protected as Natura 2000 sites for their remarkable ecosystems (exceptional bird sanctuaries boasting 160 species, as well as numerous rare plant varieties, and also famous for its catfish, zander, and carp).
