Mixed stay here. Good price, good location, the evening meal surprisingly nice (except there were 2 flies at the bottom of the ice cream glass, ugh!) The pool was lovely. Very warm. A couple of the staff (at reception when we arrived, and evening waiting staff) were friendly and helpful (others were so-so). The room on booking.com (last one), was listed as four poster but because I had a couple of questions so I phoned up, told only one room so booked that, however wasn't 4 poster. We didn't mind particularly especially for the price so didn't say anything so this isn't really part of my review score, just to advise to check the room type I you are booking by phone, especially as our bed was really uncomfortable (it was clearly in bit of hotel awaiting refurbishment..Weird dippy/lumpy mattress, also room far too hot, so didn't sleep well and I was sore and grumpy the next day and less able to pass over other issues. Breakfast was self serve and average. It was a shame they didn't open the tables by the windows. The prunes tasted fizzy/alcoholic like they were off and I spent a while trying to get staff attention to recommend they check them, eventually I went over to where they were standing. I think we'll stay somewhere else next time, all in all.

Just stayed for 2 nights taking a short break. Beautiful old building and while showing it's age here and there round the windows outside and in some of the decor in the room we were in, this did not detract from a very pleasant stay. Also there were a couple of tradesmen and a noticeable smell of fresh paint in the corridor when we arrived but the very helpful Natalie, working the reception, explained they were amid an ongoing refurbishment program. That said, our room was spacious enough, even with the massive bed, clean and very comfortable. The dining experience was so good both for dinner and breakfast that we ate at the hotel on both nights. From the perfectly cooked scrambled egg on the 'all you can eat' breakfast buffet to the exquisite sirloin and the succulent roast duck at dinner, we just couldn't fault it. Our hostess, Adi, I would say waitress but she was much more than that, making us feel so welcome with an air of nothing being too much trouble and certainly giving the impression that she thoroughly enjoyed her job. And finally, not forgetting the spa, with its massage jets at the edge of the pool, a lovely steam room and the jacuzzi tub. The icing on a perfectly baked cake.

We stayed for a night after travelling around the Lake District for a number of days. Our stay was decent and we found the room OK. It wasn't the nicest of rooms, but we were told that refurbishment was underway - we understand why. The pool was a nice little bonus. It was obviously on the small side (as was the "steam room" with enough space for 2-3 people), but it was OK for a 15 minute relax. The service on reception was good. Breakfast wasn't great, so we were glad we hadn't paid more than 5 pounds per person. The place works for a quick overnight stay but we wouldn't have wanted to have stayed any longer.

Having been booked in at the hotel for 3 Nights on business, I couldn't be more impressed. I got greeted and helped by a lovely lady on the reception (Didn't catch the name but had glasses) and she dealt with every little request I chucked at her. Being on business I was in and out all day and night and I didn't have any problems. Breakfast was really nice and it was your typical hotel breakfast. Love the fact you could go down for breakfast a tiny bit later on weekends as it started and finished later what was great as I was returning to the hotel every night I was there at 00:30 at night. Overall a very nice hotel and nice staff. Didn't give it 5 stars as you probably bored of hearing it was just ever so slightly out dated but in a sense it suits its surroundings.

I booked a night at this hotel at short notice and got a very good deal on the room cost. The hotel is friendly and welcoming, the staff were very helpful and the room, complete with four-poster bed, was well equipped and comfortable. It included everything we needed for a short stay and I, for one, slept like a log. In the morning, we had an excellent, serve-yourself cooked breakfast and left feeling refreshed and set for the day. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that it is looking a little tired round the edges and could probably use a bit of a refurb but this was certainly nothing that interfered with our stay or comfort.

We stopped here on our way from London to the Lake district. Natalie, the receptionist, was very friendly and saw to our every need. She had a wealth of knowledge regarding the area. The food and service in the hotel restaurant was excellent. Highly recommended.

Lovely room for the meeting. Fully equipped and staff were helpful with changes on the day's agenda. Buffet lunch was plentiful and tasty. Good value with a Day Delegate rate. I would use the hotel again.

Stayed one night, had an evening meal and breakfast. Everything was of a high standard and the staff ensured our stay was good. Plenty of parking next to the hotel. Close to Kendal town centre. Will go there again.

Used up a voucher i had been given so that my mum could come up to visit. We were thrilled with the pool and jacuzzi. The staff even let my little boy use the pool with us and made him feel very welcome. The only reason I didn't give 5 is the hot water wasn't working well in the shower this morning (room 101). However, overall great. My mum regularly visits us in Kendal and has booked this hotel again for her visit next time. Mainly due to the friendly staff- thank you

Went here for afternoon tea with a friend and I have never left a review before in my life but I enjoyed it so much I wanted to on this occasion. Food was great (especially the cream in the scone and éclair!!), service was superb and the atmosphere was relaxing. Wouldn't hesitate to go again.
