Cottbus is a sleeply small town in Eastern Germany. It is 125km outside Berlin and very close to the Polish border. It seems to be a popular destination for domestic tourism. But for foreigners, the main reason why you would travel there is to have a medical consultation with a world-renowned non-mesh hernia repair expert Dr Andreas Koch. The hotel is very centrally located. You can walk to the Old Market in three minutes. There is a big shopping center 150 m from the hotel. As for going anywhere in town, it never costs you more than €10 to take a cab. The rooms are fairly spacious and very reasonably priced. The room I stayed in was a business category with a small kitchette and separate seating area and it was €90 including free use of the minibar. The bed was comfortable and the AC was functioning well. Breakfast was also included in the room price. It was a decent buffet accompanied by very good coffee (or capucino if you prefer). This is a no frills hotel, the kind I prefer. They will help you with anything if you ask but they don't grab your suitcase open arrival hoping for a tip or show up at 6pm for a turn down service, again hoping for a tip. They let you be but are happy to assist if you need them. At the front desk people were very nice, especially Hansen Mueller (I hope I remember his name correctly) who spoke excellent English. He let me stay two hours after check-out time to have one final visit with Dr. Koch even though the hotel was full. He also offered to send breakfast to my room even though they are not normally equipped for this. This is what I mean by them being ready to help you in any way. There is a nice restaurant bar next to the hotel called EssCoBar and they are willing to provide room service through the front desk. Their food was excellent. If you happen to travel to that part of Germany and if, like me, your idea of good service is hotel personnel giving you space while being ready to assist you in any way they can, I highly recommend Sorat Hotel. Friendly people, excellent service, charming rooms. I don't think you can do better in Cottbus. Or in many other places for that matter.
The stay was pleasent but first I need to clean the bathroom...the room was ok but for a 4-star category house and the Price I expect a clean room. The walls seemd very thin too...We stay in the 3rd floor near the Elevator...
Stayed in late August. Great location to shops and restaurants. Nice outside area to chill on wonderful autumn weather. Rooms were clean, for sleeping in, so good reason to get out and about in the town square. Staff very friendly and I was appreciative they spoke very good english!
Stayed here for 11th time and would not choose anywhere else for annual visit to Cottbus as location in the heart of the old town centre within walking distance of all main attractions is unmatched by any alternatives. No exceptional features, but good solid performance in all departments delivered at a reasonable price. That said, the breakfast buffet includes a wonderful contraption for squeezing juice from fresh oranges: a nice touch. Decor beginning to show age since first visit in 2002, but carpets recently renewed and further renovations will no doubt follow, and meanwhile cleanliness unaffected. Work most needed in underground garage (not exclusive to hotel), parts of which closed due to delapidation, so available spaces limited.
We have stayed in this hotel twice now and would return again. Having asked for a quiet room away from any internal or external noise, I am a very light sleeper, we were given the option to upgrade to a 'Comfort' room for an extra 10€. This was well worth the cost a it was really quiet. The beds are comfortable, although my wife has problems with the European style pillows collapsing overnight. The breakfast was an extra 13€ and gave us a good start to the day with the selection on offer. All in all a well located and well served hotel.
The location of the hotel in Cottbus is excellent - right in the centre near the pedestrian zone. They have access to an underground car park (9€ per night) with a connecting door into the hotel. The hotel itself is a bit tired looking - perhaps in need of an update at some stage. Our room was comfortable enough although it was next to a room that was being used for a meeting - with very loud discussion going on! Luckily the meeting finished early evening so that there was no disturbance when we wanted to get to bed. the breakfast was average for a hotel buffet style breakfast - normal selection. We were in a table near to the front door of the hotel (just the other side of the book cases) which meant that every time the front door opened we could smell the smoke from the smokers who stand just outside the front door!
Very nice staying with service in polish language. Hotel is located in historucal centre of Cottbus City, so every interesting place can be achieved by pedestrians or by bicycle. Summarizing, the best place to stay in Cottbus.
Very basic rooms. They have 2 categories "standard" and "comfort". The latter cost an extra €10-€15 per night. For the extra you get: a bottle of mineral water, the use of a minibar and the use of a bathrobe and some slippers. The rooms are otherwise identical. BUT: the "comfort" rooms look over the Innenhof whilst the standard ones look out over a noisy cobbled alley which the hotel calls a "city view". The hotel website shows a delightful green period building so you have the impression you will be staying in a traditional old hotel. This is grossly misleading as it's only the ENTRANCE which is in that building. The hotel itself is 60s/70s and is at the back. However, the location is excellent and the rooms are very good value provided you avoid the over-priced and very ordinary breakfast. Another major problem is that the hotel seems to be the centre of support for the local football club. So they erect a big TV screen in the bar whenever there's a football game on. Which seems to be most nights. Hardly anyone ever turns up, so it seems to be for the benefit of the staff. However, the staff were always very polite and helpful - it's not their fault the hotel is 3rd rate. The car park in the basement costs €9 a night but you have no choice unless you want to feed the meter at 8am.
I booked a room for two nights here and the room was nice and clean. I also got a lunch box from the reception with eggs, sandwiches and something to drink instead of breakfast. The stuff was very friendly and helpful.
It is the hotel to stay in Cottbus. Roughly 8 minutes from the train station, the place is well connected to the rest of the city. The hotel staff were very friendly and speaks very good English. The room is standard size, nice, clean and equipped with a television, minibar etc. The bathroom is a bit fancy :). During the morning, there is a buffet breakfast which costs around 13 euros per person. There was free Wi-Fi but unfortunately I had to sit near the reception to get connection. The neighborhood was calm and quite. There is a street with many restaurants just 2 minutes away from the hotel.
