I was only here for one night on a 'flying visit' to Catalonia and picked this hotel at the last minute. Situated on the seafront near the lighthouse it proved to be tricky to locate mainly due to the local one way system and the front entrance being tucked back from the road. A friendly welcome from reception and the catering staff in the dining area. My room was clean, tidy and had all the facilities I needed for a short stay. The view from the balcony was good, looking out towards the Mediterranean. There was plenty of good food on offer in the restaurant, for both the evening meal and breakfast, although my only criticism is that it could have been a little hotter. The hotel has a small pool (not for me in March!) and a good sized bar area at the front, overlooking the sea. A pleasant stay which I hope to repeat in future.
And that about does it for the positives although the day desk lady was very friendly and helpful and the cleaning staff were good as well. Free WiFi was limited to the lobby /bar area and whilst they had a TV in the room functionally on BBC World news was English speaking (but I don't go on vacation to watch TV to be fair so wasn't overly bothered) Location was good as was cleanliness also which pushes up the score but don't be fooled. This place needs a jump start to bring it back to reality This was our second time to Calella, so I thought we would stay closer to the beach because we were hoping to have a lazy day and sit on the balcony watching the Ironman. The hotel lacks in everything else from the catering staff (rude and actually quite ignorant), to the facilities to the general overview of the property. I understand that lots of people pass thru using this place and that wear and tear has to be taken into consideration but for me safety is a factor and whilst the rooms are a good size the balconies associated with rooms 612 & 605 were bordering on scary! My partner at first was totally reluctant to even walk on to 612's balcony. The move to 605 was facilitated by the nice desk lady but the request to upgrade to a 'room with a view' was met with a 240 euro extra charge for the remainder of the week so I took a zero on that offer. Luckily the property is literally a 2 minute walk to the beach because the pool is akin to having a foot spa in your back garden. Do not go here if you want to lay on a sun lounger by the pool cause it ain't gonna happen! The food was, shall I say disappointing. Breakfast consisted of the same 3 cold meats with cheese and maybe lettuce, maybe tomato. The hot side was more varied I guess with daily choices but in support there was no fruit, a selection of 'fairy cake' and biscuit type stuff and a cereal choice with a poor coffee machine & watered down juice machine. I love Calella I really do, it has a typical Spanish charm whilst also catering locally for the tourist holiday maker. Unfortunately this hotel won't be on any list of mine again and I will be visiting Calella in the future
HOTEL SD IT WAS DISABLED FRIENDLY ! NO There are many instances suffered by my wife - we asked for a disabled accessable rooom a month beforre we arrived. to be given a small dark room with a raised sliding door to a small balcony ( very dangerous to those lass mobile ) which after much arguing we were moved to a proper accessable room 5 days later There was not enough room to bring in my mobility scooter in & it had to live in thge hallway When my wife asked for some ice at the bar they refused so I - needing an ice pack to ease my chronic spine pain - I had to go get it myself ! Due to steep steps at the Hotel entrance, I had to spend 14 days having to go to basement, past staff rest area, the laundry & past many beer kegs & crates, to a metal '' garage '' style rear trades entry Very demeaning & miserable for my wife too There were many other examples of the general lack of #disabledawareness & we are today considering their offer to refund us 50% of our stay BUT PLEASE - Avoid this place if ur Disabled - & have second thoughts if ur bot xx
This is a clean and convenient hotel in terms of being right opposite and next to the beach. What you shouldn't expect is an iron, kettle, etc in the room. Just basics like the bed, towels and soaps. It was cleaned everyday to a very good standard, reception staff was helpful most of the times. We had half boarding, food varied everyday and can't complain much although fruits for breakfast would be great too. Restaurant staff absolutely amazing and helpful! Wifi is only available on the 1st floor and ground floor, very strong at the bar and outside the bar but in the rooms you have nothing except for 15 minutes free at first login . Balcony was good had a view to the sea which was nice. TV in the room quite old and no remote I think you pay for it so we didn't bother , there's a safe I think you pay for the key as well. Overall it was a convenient stay for my son and I.
Don’t think that you will get a sea view just because this hotel is on the sea front. Most rooms look to the side of the next hotel less 10 m away. The only rooms with sea views are twice as expensive as the “normal” rooms. Our friends paid the same for a much nicer hotel 200 m from the sea front and they even had a better view (a hotel across the road but 20 m away). The rooms are extremely shabby (see pics): No chairs. The bathtub needed resurfacing. The basin’s water tap leaked from the side. The TV was an old 14” cathode tube. No fruit or yogurt for breakfast, only cold meats and fried up stuff; I even think the magdalenes were fried. I am all for a good fried up but after a couple of days you may feel like just eating an apple or something lighter and healthier… Also -in an extreme example of efficiency- the coffee machine was half behind a table! Despite all the shabbiness, the worst part of staying at hotel Haromar was its appalling customer service. If this company has a mission statement it must be “We don’t really care”. Thanks God I am a Spanish speaker: The lady at the counter did not even bothered to take the message from our shuttle service letting us know at what time they were going to pick us up! I asked the lady if there were any messages for us, she said “no” and that we “had to normally call the company”. I rang the company and they told me that they do call and leave a messages. When I mentioned my hotel to the shuttle company’s representative on the phone, she exclaimed “Oh, yes, I know the hotel. This woman is a problem…”. At 10 AM, check out time, there were long cues while a seemingly clueless employee tried to check us all out and the same women who didn’t take the message for us was just doing something on the computer. Playing solitaire? When asking for the remote to watch TV we were requested a “deposit” of 20 eu: 20 eu are enough to buy another remote and another 14” TV set like the one in the room! At least the TV had a remote; there was no remote for the air conditioner which was set at 21C, on or off. The last night there, we sat at the hotel terrace bar at about 10:30. Nobody came to our table and at about 11 the barman quietly switched the music off, the bar’s lights off and left! We feel sad for the cleaners and waiters who were very polite. Hopefully they will be able to get a better job somewhere else.
Visited this weekend, Calella our base for rugby league match in Catalan. Very reasonably priced, basic hotel - however great value for money / clean and beds comfortable. Great location opposite the beach. Staff very friendly. Would defo stay again !
Very basic, but totally functional, nice reception staff, and perfectly fine for what we paid. Fantastic location for the race, right on the beach, and brilliant train travel to get into Barcelona or Girona (so cheap!). We stayed for 6 nights, and I probably would come back if doing the race again. Calella is actually a really lovely city, with some amazing restaurants nearby - and this hotel works as a great base. If you like staying in the hotel all day, this isn't the place for you - but as a base for exploring the Costa Brava it's fab. Breakfast is okay, nothing to write home about - and the only weird thing was not really having air conditioning.
You get what you pay for. We paid £35 per night for 2 people with half board. The hotel is nice and clean! Rooms are quite bare. No hair drier, no tissues, no chair! It's the kind of hotel that wants you to pay extra for things like wifi and the use of the in-room safe. You even need to leave a deposit for the tv remote control. By far the worst thing about this hotel is the paper thin walls. You can easily hear the people in the next room, even in the bathroom! Earplugs are essential. The food, while edible, wasn't very inspiring, but there is a variety and plenty of it. Good for people on a budget. Bad for people allergic to noise.
travelled for Ironman Barcelona and couldn't fault the hotel. Ticked all of my boxes including opening up for breakfast on race day at 05.00. couldn't ask for more thank you/Periodic trains run close by but did not bother me at all
Hotel is ok if you are on a budget. For the base price you get a room with sea view (we did) and breakfast. There things kinda end. There is no wifi, and there is no point to buy and pay for it, since it does not work. Even though breakfast is included, you need to buy from the bar coffee and juice since the dining room offering is very very poor - the dispense machine stuff is just not drinkable. Bar itself nice and cheap with outside seating as well. Rooms are pretty basic but enough to stay a few days, no fridge no nothing. Beware of the offering of airport shuttle. Ours arrived an hour later and took us to Terminal 2 instead of vouchers Terminal 1. Plus they charged extra for the bike but came a big bus with lot of free room.
