We stayed half board for 7 nights from 29 September 2017 & were very happy with everything. Santa Susanna was quiet & attractive, with a long promenade, no rowdy areas we could see. We paid extra for a premium room overlooking the pool, very comfortable, clean & modern with 2 double beds (were supposed to be twin beds), so we could spread out! The restaurant & food was wonderful, the choice was amazing so no problems there at all. The staff were very attentive & helpful wherever we went. There was entertainment every night plus a piano bar. Plenty of places to sit indoors & out, no fighting for loungers at this time of year, but there were lots to choose from anyway. The pool was excellent if a little cold, but the indoor spa pool was warm. The only downside for us was the walk to the beach, as I have some difficulty walking due to a foot operation, we were a little bit too far, although the hotel is situated along the front, there is a railway line all along the coast, so there is a walk to get to the access points for the beach. If you are fit & able there should be no problem. However we were close to the small railway stop & managed to travel to Barcelona very easily. Likewise a train trip to other places along the coast would be quite easy. We would certainly go to this hotel again.

Hotel was lovely and staff very friendly overall. Breakfasts were delicious in the morning however some nights for tea the food wasn’t very tasty - nothing terrible, just not a really good meal. Lots of space around the pool. Beach was quite nice however grainy sand and no sun beds. Not that much around the hotel other than other hotels, so eating out for lunch wasnt the best and we ended up eating at the snack bar by the pool - which was nice food anyway! The bar was very expensive of a night but there wasn’t many places too close by for a nice few drinks out. Overall really good stay room was spotless and fresh towels every day, mainly just the surrounding area was lacking variety of restaurants and bars!

This hotel is so beautiful, professional staff, easy check in and check out, good food (half board), clean rooms and daily room service, lovely and clean indoor and outdoor pool. The kids club was fantastic. My girls aged 7 and 5 years enjoyed every bit of their stay. The beach is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel... Had the best holiday so far

This is a excellent hotel in all areas. The rooms are always clean. The pool well looked after . The kids clubs fantastic. The food ( breakfast and dinner ) was amazing. The entertainment was good too . In fact the hotel should be rated 5* not 4*. All the staff were hands on. Great hotel for the kids in Santa Susanna. I’ve no negative comments make. I really love Aqua Hotels. I’ve stayed at the Aqua Montagua last year. So twice in a roll. This hotel chain meets all expectations and beyond. Thanks

Great hotel, great selection of food good service from staff and good location . Weather surprisingly good for time of year.Good train service easy to get to Barcelona and other resorts along the coast.

The hotel is situated in a quiet area of Santa Suzanna and not far from the train station. We opted for a superior room with a sea view which was spacious and had a small terrace with two sun beds and a small table with two chairs, plus a small balcony overlooking those of the hotel next door. The sea-view from the 5th floor is magnificent. I had booked a superior room with an extra large double bed. The room we were allocated had two queen sized beds. We pointed this out at reception, but were given different stories, such as "you are in Spain and extra-large double beds don't exist" or "first come first served" (I had booked in Feb for October and received confirmation that I had been allocated a superior room with an extra large double bed). Staff at reception did, however try to do their best to resolve this, but I was not prepared to wait around until mid-day the next day to be able to visit the alternative option proposed. This was just the begining of lots of problems we encountered. The bathroom was poorly designed so each time you took a shower in the jacuzzi bath the bathroom and part of the bedroom flooded each time. This explains the damp smell that we noticed upon arrival. House-keeping was at a minimum, with dirty towels not changed, glasses not changed (after 3 days) and beds not made properly. No quilt, but a lower and upper sheet with a thin blanket on top. Not very hygienic. We had to leave hand-written notes to request that the glasses, sheets and towels be changed and then not everything was changed the same day. The bed itself is of very poor quality as are the sheets. The pillows are terrible, but you can request different ones at reception - there is a menu. The down pillows were very comfortable. The furniture is formica and in poor condition, with lots of cracks. Our wardrobe door was broken and it took two attempts for it to be repaired. On one occassion, we had no electricity in our room. We got to the point that we were fed up of going to reception every day to request better service so just gave up. The "restaurant" is a canteen, where you have to queue up to be allocated a seat. It is very noisy and the staff are not friendly, almost running you over with their trolleys as they clear tables. There is a wide choice of food from the buffet for breakfast and the evening meal, but everything is at luke warm temperature and tastes industrial. Standard rooms over-look the balconies of hotels next door. It is worth considering the extra expense of a superior room with a sea view and I would advise contacting the hotel after booking to ensure that you have been allocated the room as requested on-line. The reception staff speak fairly good English and French. In summary you pay for what you get. A cheap 4 star hotel, with shoddy service and rooms. Industrial.

Santa Susanna is all on the flat, so evening strolls before or after dinner are achievable by all, of all abilities. I walk with a stick, so this was important to me, I did not want to be held prisoner in the same seat for the duration of my holiday & I was not, as the main road has a great choice of restaurants, bars, supermarkets, banks, cafes, designer boutiques - there is something there for everyone. I mean for your grandparents to small children in your group. I was so pleased I chose Santa Susanna as a resort, it had everything going for it. this was not, I may add, a resort for stag or hen nights, it was very much a family place to stay, a place to go with a group of friends, from all ages. It was great to see groups of people my parents age laughing as they walked in the evening air, there where many people who used wheelchairs, so the flat surface was ideal, the large wide pavements fit many of us on throughout the day. It was great to rub shoulders with French, Netherlanders, Swiss, Danish, German & Italian people as well as Spanish. Everyone was friendly, it really was an excellent resort. The Spa hotel was beautiful - I had an amazing room, two three quarter beds, television with an international choice of channels, a mini-bar, & a lovely bathroom, furnished with all lotions & potions needed to enjoy a bath or shower. Plenty of wardrobe space, lots of room for everything in fact, a balcony with table & chairs, plus a washing maiden built into the wall. There are no tea & coffee making facilities in your room, in fact the coffee bar where you help yourself, opens in the restaurant at breakfast time only, so if you are partial to a brew through the day, this is something you should take with you. Even buying a kettle seemed impossible, we looked, but it is something the people of Catalonia seem to do without. The mini bar will keep your milk cold, along with anything else you keep in your fridge. Bedrooms are swept out daily, & you put towels in the bath if you want them changing, plus there is a sign you leave on your bed which indicated you would like your bedding changed. It is a power shower, I found that out by accident! I won't tell you everything, but it reminisced a scene from the 1970's/80's from It's a Knockout, me trying to turn the shower off as water at high speed hurtled towards me, I could not use a walking stick in the shower, the speed & the power is kind of funny to look back on, but at the time, I half expected to be met by the hotel staff cheering me on as I managed to bring control to the powerful water machine as I stood in my bath trying to fend it of & make myself safe! I ate on a half board basis which was breakfast & evening meal, speaking to reception you can swap lunch for dinner if you like, I never did. Breakfast consisted of continental to hot food & a UK breakfast daily, there were no complaints, everything you could think of and some and some more! Even Cava on most mornings & Vodka if you fancied a bloody Mary on others. Fresh fruit juice is made in front of you, plenty of tea & coffees - it is perfect. Evening meal was a great variety, fish, meat, Tapas, I was in my element, salads & fresh bread, wide selection of puddings to follow. You get up, eat, finish what is on your plate then get up & try something else. The seafood was amazing & as a fish soup lover, when it appeared, I lapped it up with much gusto. If there is anyone in your party who is less adventurous with their diet, you are catered for also. Breaded fish, chips, stews, put it this way, i was on holiday with my parents, whey are very careful what they eat, my mum can be adventurous slightly, but my dad is one of them, he needs to know he is not going to have to spend the day on the loo the following day. He wasn't! The restaurant staff are ever so friendly, but you must always take your restaurant card with you, it will save you a journey back to your room to get it! Lunch daily was either something in a local cafe, but there are plenty of shops you can buy a baguette from, some ham, cheese & tomato & make your own up in your room. Or call into the newsagent downstairs, just at the entrance of the hotel, & you have a wide selection. I reccommend the ham, cheese & tomato boccadillo, fantastic value, & one boccadillo will do 2 people. Hotel staff are great, the bar staff like you to pay for your drink when you have ordered them & they have brought them over. It is a great idea as we all hate nasty surprizes, especially after a few drinks! I cannot rate this hotel high enough, it was perfect for what my folks & I were after, close flight to UK, not too far transfers & brilliant people. I have a love of runny eggs for breakfast, I got them everyday! That is how I rate a place. My mum liked hers well done, she got what she wanted. What I am trying to say in that is, the attention to detail in this place is second to none. We went the end of September start of October, the weather was changeable on somedays, which is great if you do not like too hot weather, if I go mack, I would aim mid-September. There is a railway station across the road, which gives you access to Barcelona or other towns in Catalonia and beyond. There is an amazing Tuesday market, starts early, but it is literally on your doorstep. I saved for this holiday so was not looking to penny pinch, but what we did do, was to have dinner, go & check out the entertainment, then retire for a night glass of wine & some music in my parents room. I was buying a decent Rioja for about Three Euros Eighty, which is great. Thank you Aqua Hotel, Onabrava, Santa Susanna - you made me & my parents three very happy holiday makers who would love to return.

Great location, very clean, but like the other reviews the food could be warmer, I struggled to get a hot cup of tea the water was always off the boil. I would advise tea drinkers to bring a travel kettle. We had to leave early for our flight and asked the day before for a packed breakfast. The receptionist assured me that she had arranged it with the restaurant. On the morning of departure we had to leave at 7.30am without even a piece of fruit for our 3hour journey to Reus airport. The receptionist was rude to us which really created a sad ending to lovely break. Had the receptionist the night before not been able to arrange it I would have brought snacks and fruit from the supermarket that opens until at least 9pm. I think this really let the service down as there are many early flights and breakfast starting at 8am doesn't give you time to sit and eat before leaving. Perhaps the hotel could consider giving early leavers a bottle of water or juice with some fruit and bread.

Just back from 4 nights. Good check in. Impressive foyer. Room clean and ok. Good location. Breakfast and dinner very good. As ever sometimes could be a little warmer but excellent really. Well organised and drinks, wines, and coffees very reasonably priced. Only criticism would be the bed was not the most comfortable. The entertainment in the evening was ok but could have been a little better.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 days at the end of September, and the hotel was still very full. There are many good points. We found the staff, without exception, to be friendly and efficient ,and the swimming pool and sun-bathing area are very pleasant. The pool is not heated, other than by the sun , and any later in the year would seem rather cold. We payed to swim in the spa pool once ; this is warm but on the small side. Our room on the fourth floor had a sea-view and was large and nicely furnished. We were disturbed one evening by very loud music coming from an adjacent hotel, which penetrated the double-glazing and made sleep impossible. The dining room can get very noisy, particularly when adjacent to a lively coach party, Breakfasts were good with plenty of choice, but most of the fresh fruit, apart from apples and oranges, was so unripe as to be inedible. The buffet dinner was passable , allowing for the fact that it has to cater for large numbers so that by the time of eating "hot "food was at best tepid . The hotel is very convenient for the train station where trains to Barcelona run twice hourly. The journey takes an hour and twenty minutes, but takes you to Catalunya square. Overall a pleasant stay, and one which allowed us to see the "iron-man" in Calella.
