Any of the activities below sound fun? Like the cabin? *Book now before someone else snags it!
1. Bike Through Cades Cove
Of all the things to do around Gatlinburg, the most popular is a visit to Cades Cove. This beautiful little mountain valley is tucked in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and was once a thriving community. A number of rustic log cabins, cantilever barns, and grist mills are still preserved which gives Cades Cove a quaint air of times past.
An 11-mile one-way loop runs through Cades Cove allowing you to tour it by car, bicycle, or on foot. Because Cades Cove is so popular, you can expect there to be lots of traffic during the summer months and in the fall when the leaves are changing color around Gatlinburg.
2. Drive to Newfound Gap
Another popular activity in Gatlinburg is to drive through the national park to Newfound Gap, which is split between Tennessee in North Carolina. While there, you can stand with one foot on each side of the Tennessee-North Carolina state line. The mountain pass sits at an elevation of 5,046 feet so you’ll have fabulous views of the foothills below. The Appalachian Trail also runs right through Newfound Gap, so if you have ever dreamed of hiking part of the AT, now is your opportunity. If you start hiking northeast on the Appalachian Trail you’ll reach Charles Bunion in ~4 miles. Or if you head southwest on the AT for 7.5 miles, you’ll reach Clingman’s Dome, the highest point in the state of Tennessee.
3. See the View from Clingman’s Dome
From Newfound Gap you can continue heading up the windy mountain road to Clingman’s Dome. At 6,643 feet, Clingman’s Dome is the highest point in Tennessee and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi River. From the Clingman’s Dome parking lot, it’s a half-mile walk on a paved trail to the top of the mountain where a long spiraling concrete ramp leads up to an observation deck from which you can enjoy the spectacular views. On a clear day, you can enjoy up to 100 miles of visibility from the top of Clingman’s Dome.
The 23-mile drive to Clingman’s Dome from downtown Gatlinburg can take over an hour with traffic so make sure you plan accordingly. There is also limited parking at the top. It’s best to arrive early in the day so you’re not stuck waiting for a parking spot.
4. Take a Hike
Our favorite thing to do in Gatlinburg is to get out in nature and take a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Smokies have over 600 miles of trails offering sweeping panoramic views, cascading waterfalls and more. Some of the best day hikes in the Smoky Mountains include:
Laurel Falls (2.6 miles roundtrip): The hike to Laurel Falls is one of the most popular in the park. The entire trail is paved so you’ll find it’s possible even for those with limited mobility. This hike does get crowded so it’s best to do it early in the morning or right before sunset.
Grotto Falls (2.8 miles roundtrip): Grotto Falls is a popular hike that is also relatively short and easy and is also on a well-maintained trail. This beautiful hike takes you directly behind a waterfall for a breathtaking experience.
Chimney Tops (3.3 miles roundtrip): The Chimney Tops trail is one of the Smokies’ most iconic hikes. It’s a short hike and offers amazing views at the top, but don’t be fooled by the relatively short distance this hike covers. The last mile has an elevation gain of over 800 feet making it a strenuous climb to the top. The Chimney Tops themselves were closed after the huge Gatlinburg fire of 2016, but a new viewing platform has been built where the trail currently ends.
Alum Cave (4.4 miles roundtrip): One of our favorite hikes in the Smokies, the Alum Cave trail starts on Newfound Gap Road and follows Alum Cave Creek before heading up towards Mount LeConte. You’ll hike through a rock tunnel known as Arch Rock, and at the end of your hike you’ll reach Alum Cave which is actually an 80-foot tall concaved bluff you can rest under before heading back down.
5. Drive the Roaring Fork Motor Trail
The Roaring Fork Motor Trail is one of the most popular drives through the national park. This one-way loop is only 5.5 miles long, but it is a narrow winding road with lots of places you’ll want to stop to explore and take pictures. Most people take around 2 hours to drive through the entire trail.
For the best experience, it’s best to stop at one of the park’s visitor centers beforehand to pick up the National Park Service’s guidebook to the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. It’s only $1 and contains information on the flora and fauna of this area, as well as the history of the community that existed here before it was displaced by the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Towards the second half of the drive, you’ll encounter log cabins, grist mills, and a church that are all very well-preserved and quite interesting to visit. You’ll also drive past the Place of a Thousand Drips which is one of only two waterfalls in the national park that you can drive to.
6. See the Fireflies
Once a relatively unknown natural phenomenon, seeing the Smoky Mountain’s synchronous fireflies has now become a major bucket list item for many visitors to Gatlinburg. The Smoky Mountains just happen to be home to the Western Hemisphere’s largest population of synchronous fireflies (Photinus Carolinus).
It’s hard to do this unique experience justice with words, but you can imagine thousands of tiny lightning bugs all lighting up simultaneously in a visually stunning mating ritual. You can only see them for about 2-3 weeks each summer, typically at the end of May to the beginning of June.
The cabin is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 4.5 bathrooms, and a patio. There's space to spread out with 4 bedrooms and a dining area. Guests can enjoy a Smart TV and stay connected with free WiFi. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a fireplace, and a sofa bed. Housekeeping is available on request.

The house is very cozy and the wrap around porch with railing all the way around was wonderful with having grandkids. The fenced in yard made it even better for our fur babies. The hostess was very responsive when messaged and very polite! Wonderful getaway tucked away! Thank you for having us.

A comfortable space for a family gathering
It's a unique space with the spiral staircase and the wrap around porch. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. We enjoyed putting together some family meals. The bedroom bathroom combinations make for separate spaces for everyone. Lots of space to gather including the hot tub.

Awesome stay
Family, friends and our older dog want to the Smokey’s for the holidays. The home did not disappoint at all. The inside is big and spacious with plenty of space for everyone to relax. Plenty of household amenities and supplies. The views out the amazing wraparound porch took our breath away every morning and evening. Our dog also got around wonderfully and I appreciated the entirely enclosed yard. Amazing location for an amazing home.

Beautiful Home
My wife and I took a few days to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We brought our old dog with us too. The house is very well stocked with everything! The hot tub was wonderful and warm. Nice location and even with the road closures due to Helene it was easy to get around. Our dog struggled a little with the spiral stairs but she’s old and losing sight, so just be aware of that if your dog isn’t mobile. The tempurpedic beds are softer upstairs otherwise we wouldn’t have needed to use the stairs. The internet is weak and struggled at times but that wasn’t important to us. There wasn’t one negative to our experience. Mira was so sweet.and helpful as well.

Mountain escape
All of the adults in our party have high stress jobs. We booked this place because of its remote location and the amenities included. It did not disappoint. Each of us were able to unplug and relax. The extremely clean and inviting home offered everything we needed for our kids to have a great time. Our kids range from 2 to 19. Even our pup was able to play in the fenced in yard. I would recommend this home to anyone with a family who just wanted to unplug and relax.

Outstanding cabin!
Our 25th anniversary getaway was outstanding at this cabin. I was looking for something quiet and away from the crowds. This was absolutely the place. We had some challenges at first because Hurricane Helene blew into town the day after we arrived. Each time I contacted the host, she responded promptly. She actually went over and above compared to some hosts we have encountered at other properties. The place was likely the cleanest rental we have ever stayed at. I have never seen a kitchen so well equipped with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay. The pictures are accurate but do not do justice to how nice the place truly is. It is not a cabin but a very beautiful house. We plan on staying again. WIFI was a bit spotty but that could be attributed to the damage from the hurricane. One early morning a small buck deer walked across the lower part of the yard.

We enjoyed our stay. I would however, recommend a curtain in the main downstairs shower. As you can see right through the frosted window. Also we only got one tv to work the entire week. So just be prepared. As it states it is in the woods. Overall it was a good time had by all.
PS. I would also recommend a handicap ramp of some sort. My husband had a scooter to get around with and we had to pick it up on the porch each time. But I also did not mention he was handicapped, this is just a suggestion in the future. Very beautiful place.

Perfect getaway
Country Zen Villa was absolutely perfect for my 60th birthday celebration. The cabin is gorgeous and the setting is so peaceful. We loved having three private en-suite bedrooms with king sized beds and of course relaxing in the hot tub! Our dogs enjoyed the large fenced yard and especially the wrap around gated porch.
It’s only about 15 minutes from Newburg, but you can get most of your food/supplies at DG Market just three minutes away. There are also some decent restaurants close by (I recommend “The Bean Trees”).
It’s close enough to Gatlinburg, etc. There are lots of outdoor activities and hiking trails nearby (our dogs enjoyed the Max Patch loop), or just stay put and relax!
Mira has created a really beautiful space with great attention to detail. She was also very responsive to our inquiries. We noticed an issue with the AC the first night, and she sent someone to fix it immediately.
I would definitely book this cabin again and highly recommend it!

Beautiful location, great communication
The beauty of the villa is a must-see in person; the pictures can hardly do the quality woodworking and craftsmanship justice. Well-appointed and nicely secluded. Extra touches, like availability of villa information and prompt communication made the stay very carefree. Dark enough at night we were able to see the Northern Lights with our cameras. A short, stunning drive to Gatlinburg, but "emergency forgotten supplies" options are only minutes away. No real need to leave if you've brought enough food — the WiFi even satisfied seven Millennials and all their devices. Nice, long table for dining or gaming together, and plenty of separate areas for individual activities or quiet time. Weather in May was stunningly unpredictable: enjoyed the thunderstorms in the mountains and the sound of the rain on the roof immediately followed by blue skies and sunshine. Very good times — best vacation we've all had.

Perfect Getaway
If you want to be away from the crowds of the tourist meccas but still want to be close to enjoy some of the fun stuff, this is a beautiful, clean, quiet villa where you will be off the beaten path. Our party of 9 had plenty of room to spread out but also come together for meals, games & cozy fireside chats & if it hadn't rained every day, we would've been grillin' n chillin' in the hot tub & sitting on the wrap around porch, enjoying the view of the Smoky Mountains. You can even bring your dog! There's plenty of parking & the kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glassware, utensils, pots & pans, the appliances are nice. From here you can easily get to the Pigeon River, Cosby Campground with easy to moderate trails, whitewater rafting, Douglas Lake or go the other way to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge & Sevierville. You will feel safe, comfortable & well taken care of by hosts that really seem to care to make a wonderful experience for you.

Mira provided a great home away from home. Everything we could possibly need for a quick getaway with friends. Quiet and Serene
The home was beautiful, bright and clean from the moment you walked in. The area was quiet and fairly isolated. Plenty of room to sit outside. Be prepared for bugs as it is a heavy tree area. The wooden staircases are gorgeous. They layout is pretty but be aware the if you have teenagers sleeping in the basement - it is open to below. Still it was a lovely visit and a very relaxing time.

Wow, don't even know where to start - the descriptions and pictures really don't do it justice, it is much better and far exceeded our expectations. Not to mention how awesome and incredible Mira is. She is truly concerned about your experience and responded near immediately to any questions we had. Everything about the Country Zen Villa is out of this world wonderful. There is no place better than this as for similar accommodations. It was so perfect for our group of 7. Would be great for any family or 4 couples. I will be back and cannot wait. Perfect for dogs
This home is very nice and absolutely perfect for dogs. It has a huge fenced in area and wrap around porch. The host has thought of everything for your kitchen needs, the only thing I couldn’t find was a large skillet. It was a little difficult making French toast in wok style skillet. Lol The bed on the main level was extremely uncomfortable. This may just be because what we prefer and are used to. We couldn’t stay upstairs, because one of our dogs was afraid of the spiral stairs. The driveway needs asphalt at the bottom. The rock was flooded out and it made it very difficult to use it. It would be much nicer if you could park in the concrete driveway. The home is lovely, and once again, perfect for dogs.

Raised the Bar
We have been fortunate to have found nice properties on past vacations, but this one absolutely raised the bar. It’s a beautiful home set in the heart of the Smokey’s. The setup was perfect for our group of 10 with the multiple king sized beds and bathrooms/showers for everyone. We could have spent 24x7 on the wrap around porch and the hot tub got plenty of use as well. While it was a bit of a drive into Gatlinburg, it didn’t hamper us too much and there are plenty of stores and restaurants nearby that are out of the fray, which we appreciated.
Finally, the owner was so responsive and helpful. We had car trouble and she helped guide us and even offer that we could stay an extra night if needed. I’d highly recommend and hope to come back again in the future.

Perfect stay
We had an absolutely wonderful time at this cabin! The interior is absolutely beautiful and had everything we needed. Mira was so wonderful to speak with regarding the booking. The property is off the beaten path from the commercialization of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, yet still had access to a grocery and tons of outdoor activities. We soaked up the zen retreat and relaxation in the cabin, but went to on a nearby trail hike to a waterfall one day! It’s a beautiful area! I’m already planning my next trip with the girls here to enjoy another weekend filled with hiking, yoga and relaxation! You won’t go wrong with booking this property!
