I am used to staying in hotels these days but, oh, how different this one was, in a good way. When I take the grandchildren I usually stay in a well known chain because I know what we shall get but this time I was on my own, needed a night's break so I got on to Trip Advisor and found a room on offer at Merchants Manor. No bank of computers and several staff, but a lovely lady at the table by the entrance, my name was give, a warm smile and 2 seconds later a piece of paper to sign, directions to the bar and restaurant and then, directions to my room. Up2 flights of stairs and the door opened into a spacious room, with patio doors onto a balcony with a great sea view, absolute magic! The icing on the cake was the bathroom; a big bath with little round thongs along the side so that, when fullish, you could press a button and have a spa bath..oh wow. It was great to start the day with a good water massage. Breakfast was freshly cooked, I had poached eggs on avocado on sourdough toast , and a croissant ( Love them!) All served with a smile, and a warm welcome to the restaurant. Not just " room number?" but "Hell, good morning, name?" It also has a spa, which I didn't use but looked very interesting, and a gym. They also offer treatments. It was close enough to the beach for me to go for a walk before I left, with, I might add, much regret. What a change from the chains....individual attention and being made to feel welcome. I hope to go again

Be aware that there are a number of unrefurbished rooms that are not advertised on the website. The food and staff were nice but we felt deliberately mislead so would not recommend this hotel. The room was tired and required a deep clean

Just returned from an overnighter visiting relatives. Booked through Secret Escapes - deluxe double with Prosecco and breakfast. Gorgeous decor throughout, really lovely, friendly staff, always there but never intrusive, and they all gave the impression that they enjoyed their jobs. That really means a lot to us and the Head Waiter (sorry don't know his name but he was dressed in tweeds!) was super nice - a credit to his chosen profession! Bar meals were tasty, a decent size, and well presented. Bar prices, were very reasonable for such sumptuous surroundings - extremely large G&T cocktail with all the trimmings £8, and £6.50 for a standard G&T which was definitely not your usual "standard". Cappuccino coffee £2.95 decent size and properly made. We will definitely be coming back in the future and a big Thank you to all the Staff if you're reading this xxx

First time at merchants manor for Sunday lunch, for three courses £18 is very reasonable. The roast beef was delicious as were all the trimmings. The citrus posset I had was well worth the gym session I will have to do tomorrow. I will say the service was a little slow, however it did mean that by the time it was dessert you had gained a bit more space for it! Will the food and beverage manager was very friendly and looked after us excellently. Thankyou merchants manor!!

My partner and I love to have a date night to get 5 minutes together and this is the place to do it! We live in Truro and as there is only one place for swimming we decided to try the merchants. That was over a year ago and now we come here often! The price is outstanding compared to close by st. Michaels (which is dirty and not nice at all, even after the refurb) but we find the staff here brilliant. Friendly, and the pool and facilities are lovely! The pool is always warm and inviting! Most of the time it is just the two of us which makes it so much better. Obviously if there is more people we wouldn’t mind as it’s a public swim! Really love it here! Will be visiting again very soon! And as for the poor reviews... well I don’t understand how people can say the pool is dirty??? Take a look at st. Michaels and then tell me it’s dirty!!

I cannot praise this hotel enough. From the warm welcome from the staff, the superb restaurant, comfy beds and state of the art gym and leisure centre. Generosity is the watchword here. Cannot wait to return

Excellent room, Superb food - Breakfast & Dinner, and marvellous facilities. Staff were friendly, and could not have been more helpful. This was no mean feat, considering the size of the group. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Falmouth. Well done, and hope to visit again.

From the initial contact to arrange the holiday to leaving after the holiday this place was superb in every aspect. Nothing was to much trouble. They took time out to ensure anyone with slight disability were given suitable rooms, the hospitality on arrival was fantastic, through the few days the food was brilliant, served on time and very tasty, to help fit in with our schedule. All the rooms were brilliant, comfortable and warm and all the staff were more than very helpful. After this visit there are not enough words to describe how the staff and hotel made our week an outstanding holiday and will be full of brilliant memories for a very long time.

Merchants Manor Hotel, Falmouth, Cornwall. Where do I start? Because we had such a fantastic time in Cornwall and at your hotel, so many wonderful memories come flooding back to my mind, so I’ll attempt to single out the most treasured. Being a member of a male voice choir visiting Falmouth, I had already made a genuine connection with the Treverva Male Voice choir, also the Mabe Ladies Choir, and your hotel was recommended to us by Gemma Triggs, wife of Treverva MVC’s conductor, and what a superb choice it turned out to be – thank you Gemma. Your hotel has been the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The warm welcome we had on our arrival on the Monday evening, rather late due to traffic problems, but the reception was amazing. With a coach load of 57 people – singers and friends, before we knew it all the cases had been carried in and sorted by the hotel team, and we were enjoying a most delicious three course meal within half an hour of arrival. Being country people from North Wales, we enjoy our food. The continental – or - full breakfast, and the three course evening meals were excellent, very, very tasty, and could not be bettered in any way. The bottled water on the tables kept being replaced almost miraculously without us ever noticing. Please convey our appreciation to the kitchen staff and waiters All the bedrooms were spacious, immaculately clean and the comfortable beds and pillows made it quite difficult to get up in the mornings! There was plenty of hot water and the shower taps made it so easy to operate, and how better to start the day than with a refreshing shower (or bath). The Fitness Room, Gym and Pool were used by many of our singers and friends and I’m reliably told that it was an excellent facility. Finally I must mention the hotel staff and their proprietors Sioned and Nick. We were all treated like royalty, the team being so responsive to our requirements, they always greeted us with a smile and literally moved around un-noticed, but yet were always there when serving the food, or when we wanted something. The team were hard working, courteous, friendly and yet highly professional in their duties – such a refreshing change to some other hotels we have stayed in over the years. To give them a score I would quote the often used phrase in the world of business, ‘Value plus VAT’. Let me explain, the hotel gets a full 100% for being top quality, and the VAT refers to their Value Added Team which gains another full 20 points, so out of a score of 100% they deserve a full 120% – excellent and highly recommended. Oh yes I almost forgot – we’ll be back. Berwyn Evans,

Stayed here for family wedding. The wedding was amazing and the staff and food are the Manors saving grace. We stayed overnight. The room we were in (Rm 9) was really below par. We appreciate that there are rooms at different stages of refurbishment but all rooms should also shown the Manors website with descriptions of what guests are booking, there are hardly any pictures of the rooms on the website, and none of the rooms / corridors where we were. My husband is 6ft tall and couldn't stand straight in the toilet and also banged his head on the light. The stair case to the top floor has tiny, very steep steps which I felt unsafe going up and down. Having the shower and the sink in the room was not very nice and below standard for a hotel of this standard. We felt very enclosed by not being able to see out of any of the windows including a velux window in the toilet. Most of all, I can't understand why we were charged £130 for this room, the same as the other rooms our family members were in, when they had full size bathrooms, whirlpool baths, balconies and sea views (our window was obscured, probably to stop people seeing us getting out of the shower into the room!) We booked a long way in advance, before all our family and we got the worse room for the same price. To be honest, we are very, very disappointed with the same rate for very different room. The only reason we have not given a 1 was due to the staff and the food.
