Ok Hotel grossly overpriced and overrated. Parking is a nightmare. The room was very average with nowhere to put anything. The tv was unwatchable except from the bed. Old fashion tv - surely with all the money they charge for 1 nights fee they could buy a modern tv. No air conditioning so it was stifling as it was a hot night without any breeze. SORRY I BOOKED THE ROOM
This was my second visit, the last one six years ago and I was glad to found the hotel just as good as the last time! The garden at the front is delightful, there was parking available (which is good as the street outside is quite steep) and the welcome was excellent. Room had a stunning sea view and the breakfast was enjoyable, a place to return to for sure!
Room was large, light, clean and well presented. All hotel needs provided. Loved having large sash windows open on the hot balmy evenings we were in Penzance (26 - 30C). The little welcoming and caring touches for guests were a treat. Our customer services welcome was very professional and we were advised and helped to plan our two full days and three nights in Penzance. The restaurant and the staff - well what can I say about them - the chef is very talented and not one dish did we fault in three dinners and three breakfasts, so creative. . The waiting staff, morning and evening were attentive, professional, had attention to detail and were personable with hotel guests dining in, or the many local people dining in the restaurant. Beautiful views, good location, decent size pool, and charming gardens. This English hotel rates high marks.
The welcome from the staff was very good and we were given a short tour of the hotel by Sue Hornsey. The building occupies commanding views towards the harbour and town of Penzance both of which are a 10minute walk from the hotel. As you would expect most of our contact was with the staff in the restaurant and we want to mention and thank Bethany,Claire,& Matthew for the quality of service and attention we were given and hope your Senior Manager takes notice because they really made our stay pleasant . The Bay restaurant was as expected as was the food, which was good, perhaps a little more choice on the menu would have made it more interesting. Our room was OK and overall the hotel was very clean. The property is comprised of 2 Victorian houses made into one so if you are expecting a Hilton or Marriott experience then this place is not for you, it is very much a Boutique hotel .
The staff at the Hotel Penzance are friendly, warm and welcoming. Our room had a fantastic view over the sea and was spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our five-day stay, which included lovely breakfasts. We ate dinner there once and, while the food was fine, we found better value restaurants in town. Highly recommend this hotel.
Four of us arrived in Penzance on the sleeper train so turned up at the hotel at 8.30AM for a 3.00PM check in!. We were welcomed with a friendly smile and invited to site in the lounge and provided with tea & coffee whilst reception dealt with a large party checking out. We were also invited to take breakfast in the hotel which we did and was excellent with a number of choices to suit all tastes. Our bags were left at the hotel whilst we explored Penzance and at approx. 11.00AM we received a phone call from the hotel advising that our rooms were ready for us. Returning to the hotel a bit later our bags had been taken to our rooms which were spacious and comfortable with a large en-suite, all clean and in excellent condition with complimentary bottled water, tea & coffee. Regrettably we were only staying the one night so didn't get to use the heated pool or sample the dinner menu although we did squeeze in an afternoon tea before going out for the evening. We shared two full afternoon teas between the four of us, you would need a healthy appetite to eat one on your own, it was delicious! We used the honesty bar when we returned in the evening and had a great nights sleep before enjoying another lovely breakfast in the sea-view restaurant before setting off. We would love to return and spend a bit longer there and try out the restaurant which we are planning already!
Negatives: There is no lift. We had to carry our heavy bags upstair to our room, though assistance was offered and we admittedly declined. My only significant complaint would be having to pay £5 per day to guarantee a parking spot (this was kindly waived the first day when the hotel parking lot was relatively empty). Otherwise there was really nothing to complain about. I would stay there again. Positives: The location is very good, though the road and driveway are rather steep. The check in and check out process was efficient and friendly. The front desk personnel were very helpful. We had laundry done while there and the price was very reasonable...less costly than in another hotel we stayed in later. The turnaround time was very quick, too. The accommodations were fine, though not elegant. We had nice views of Penzance and St. Michael's Mount. The beds were comfy and the room was spacious (Room 10). However, the bathroom was a bit small (narrow) and had an open ended shower that made it difficult to avoid soaking the floor. The furniture in the sitting area was dated and insufficient (only one very low chair). Breakfast was included in our "package". Breakfast was good (not very good or excellent) and had wonderful views. A nice way to start each day. The restaurant staff were very efficient, helpful, and friendly.
Had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel in a superior twin room. The staff were very friendly and accomodating and the hotel was clean and cosy with modern facilities. There was a lovely view of the harbour from our room and lots of little indoor and outdoor nooks around the hotel to read or enjoy a beverage. The breakfast on offer was fresh and tasty and I would recommend this hotel. The only reason I am not giving this five stars is that the bed was rather more firm than my preference and pillows were a bit flat.
I was given a voucher for an afternoon tea for two and wanted to use it on a visit to Cornwall. The Penzance hotel was the only hotel in Cornwall that accepted this voucher. We have been visiting the area for over 40 years but knew nothing of this establishment. We were pleasantly surprised on all levels. The staff were friendly and helpful and the tea was delicious with the scones being some of the best we have ever tasted. The views from the hotel were good and the decor of the restaurant pleasing so all in all lovely afternoon. Thank you
Overall extremely pleasant. Comfortable and friendly hotel with a very good restaurant for dining. Despite being described as cosy the room was a good size with a comfortable sofa and a view across the harbour. There is tea and cake available in the afternoon, a happy hour and honesty bar. The only downside was that the hotel's terms and conditions were not clearly reflected on the booking agency's website. This meant I booked a room with no cost if cancelled more than 14 days before arrival but had an unexpected immediate charge to my credit card for the first night's stay. This was subsequently explained as refundable in the event of cancellation in the charge free period. On arrival we found that the car park is on a steep slope and the only remaining space was in a tight corner right at the top. I then discovered that I could have reserved a space in advance although the agency booking form said this was not possible. All sorted out at the time by the very helpful duty manager but unnecessary in my view. I have been advised that the lack of consistency in the explanation of terms is being addressed. Breakfast on the last day was not great although again, the staff were apologetic and keen to remedy. I just wish it hadn't been necessary. I would certainly visit again but hope that the minor niggles have been sorted out.
