Once again an amazing evening! Wonderful staff (who dance well), excellent food, great entertainment, ending in a really comfortable bed. Even when you go alone, you end up making amazing friends. So worth a visit. See you soon!
A disappointing stay. .Not to the standard expected ( AA 4 Stars). Service and customer awareness very good for first 24 hours then gradually deteriorating- and approaching zero by the time I checked out. No hot water in room one morning ( fixed quickly but after cold shower),usable room area v, small and no comfortable chair , no assistance with luggage either arriving or leaving, and dining room service very poor after Christmas. Also steps to first floor very steep (no lift) and shower was in bath ! Cuisine ( AA 2 rosettes) meets it claims although the menus post Christmas lunch were not very interesting. My impression was more management than staff !
This is a lovely small hotel and has plenty of charm. Because it’s very good I feel that I am allowed to point out a few points that would lift it from very good to excellent. First the heating rail in the bathroom could be warmer (even when on max it was tepid), second the choice of blinds rather than curtains meant quite a lot of noise due to drafts moving the blinds in the night. Third the breakfast, whilst excellent in quality, was disappointing meagre in portion size.
It's not often you come across a hotel that makes you feel truly special but the Hotel Penzance is definitely one of those places. We stumbled across this lovely hotel through a Groupon deal that offered 2 nights bed & breakfast with cream tea and an allowance towards dinner. On arrival, we'd been upgraded to Room 17 St Germoe with beautiful views across to St Michael's Mount and Penzance harbour. Our room had every mod con in it from bottled water, Nespresso machine to comfy bath robes. The bed large, comfy with good quality linens and snuggly feather topper on the mattress. Sleeping in it was bliss after a good day hiking. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, a refreshing change from other places visited where you barely get a hello on arrival. They looked after all their guests without being overbearing. The hotel is ideally placed for a short break in Penzance being about 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre. Car parking provided on site. However it is on a steep hill which might be difficult for less able visitors and I don't think the hotel has a lift but otherwise, it's perfect. Great views of St Michael’s Mount, ten minute walk into the centre of Penzance. The staff are welcoming, helpful and have so much local information you won’t need the internet to plan your stay. Top Tip. Seriously, whatever you plan on doing, run it past them and benefit from their knowledge. So many tourists turn up with a plan and ignore those who truly know. Breakfast is first class, the room is comfortable and clean. We plan on going back.
We found this hotel through a Groupon voucher and what a deal it turned out to be. The hotel was much better than I had anticipated - quite old fashioned in its décor in most rooms - no Farrow and Ball neutral colours - and all the better for that. Very comfortable bed and everything needed in the room. There is a very relaxing lounge - complete with honesty bar - a lovely touch. Service and staff were outstanding - full marks for all of them. They could not have been more helpful. The only reason that I haven't given this hotel an overall rating of 5 is (a) I wish that the water pressure in the shower was stronger and (b) the bar/dining room - whilst having spectacular views - is a bit "cold". This would not deter us from visiting again - great place for a long week-end - especially out of season. Loved it.
Fantastic place to stay lovely friendly staff all ways happy to help lovely food and fantastic sea views from the room we stayed in always clean comfy beds we had a great time would defo recommend staying here 😀
We arrived for a two night stay over a Saturday and Sunday, we had to pay £5 per night for parking which was pre-booked. There was no space allocated to us when we arrived which was quickly rectified. The car park is on a very steep hill with about 10 or so spaces. The lady who checked us in was very friendly, showed us where the restaurant was and also took us to our room. We had room 3, it had no view at all (we didn't expect sea view as we was given this as a voucher stay). The room had a slight smell to it, which we out to the hotel maybe being a bit older. We never had dinner in the hotel as we ventured out to the town which is a short walk away. Upon returning that night, the smell had got worse, we thought we would be able to get on with it and just left the window open. The next morning the bathroom stunk of an awful smell (so strong I couldn't even go in there). I think we was over the kitchen so all we could smell was a deep fat fry smell (but worse). I phoned reception at about 8am who called us back straight away to confirm we could move rooms (luckily, as I don't think I could of actually stayed another night). We was informed that our new room would be ready as soon as possible and they would move all our stuff over for us. We can back later that day and we was moved into a sea view facing room and no smell!! The new room was so much better, it was bigger and the view was lovely! It was very clean. We are so happy they managed to move us for our second/last night which finished off our trip wonderfully. Please can the smell of room 3 be looked into, so no one else has the experience, because if it wasn't for that the hotel would of nearly been perfect. Thank you to the staff who quickly dealt with the situation and moved us into a new room. I have added some photos of the new room and the view from the new room.
Really liked this hotel, friendly staff, comfortable room if a bit small, but not a problem as there are 2 lovely guest lounges. Only issue was the noise created by a fan/coldstore or something that kept starting up up in the night which woke us up each time it activated.
The Penance Hotel is very pleasant and well maintained. The hotel and Bay Restaurant staff could not be more friendly and eager to please. The hotel and its car park are situated on a very steep hill. The centre of Penance is approximately a third of a mile away. Walking back from the town, up the steep hill and then the two flights of stairs to our room was quite exhausting. Our stay was as a result of being given a Debenhams Hotel Breaks Gift Voucher. Due to quality and range of hotels available, combined with the restrictions in use is e.g. “The voucher does not allow for stays in peak season. You cannot change the dates because you are on a voucher.” We paid extra for a sea view, car park, Friday night occupancy, breakfast and dinner which all added very considerably to the concept of a ‘gift’. My advice is – Vouchers are to be avoided! Our room was effectively in the attic. It certainly had an impressive sea view, overlooking the bay and St Michael’s Mount. It was pleasantly decorated, well maintained with good facilities However, it was small with a proportionally small double bed. For taller guests the sloping roof and rafters could present a headache. The Bay Restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere where the friendly and efficient staff serve good food; which is just as well as there are no other restaurants within reasonable walking distance. I have no doubt that the generally high level of complimentary reviews for this hotel are well deserved, providing the situation of the hotel and choice rooms is born in mind.
