Located in the old Jewish quarter of Cordoba this hotel is delightful. Only minutes away is the Mezquita. While the local area is very busy with tourists the hotel is quiet and peaceful. There is a charming courtyard where meals and coffee are served and it is also possible to have drinks or dinner on the rooftop with a view over Cordoba and the Mezquita.
We are a family of 5 with three children under 12. This is possibly our most favourite hotel in Spain. Utterly charming and beautifully restored, the hotel was an oasis in the bustle of Cordoba during the Semana Santa. It wasn't easy to find, but such is the way trying to navigate through the historical centre of Cordoba and gave us some amusement once we reached the hotel. The staff were all exceptional and very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Breakfast was perfect and served in the lovely central courtyard and included a buffet as well as hot food cooked to order. Lunch and dinner were served either in the courtyard or on the roof terrace with wonderful views of the Great Mosque of Cordoba. We had a large one bedroom suite which suited our family size. The linens were nice, the towels were ample and the room was very clean and easy to navigate. Thank you all again and we hope to be back soon.
Whenever I visit cordoba I come to eliminate balcon it is a magical place with extraordinary views. It's peaceful and the staff are excellent in all ways. You will be looked after extremely well and will want to resturn.
We just returned from a four-night stay at the Balcon de Cordoba with my friends. We were sure it would be a memorable stay even before we arrived! I had already had several telephone contacts with Raul, the wonderful concierge, while planning our trip and I was amazed at his knowledge, his efficiency and the joy with which he offered to book everything for us. All people at the hotel are nice, the rooms are beautiful with all the amenities and decorative details they offer, breakfast is lovely and the location of this sweet boutique hotel within the old part of the city makes it even more interesting. We left, promising to be back, not only because Cordoba is so lovely, but also because we would love to spend more time in this charming hotel, which makes you feel at home!
Can you fall in love with a hotel? The answer is YES! From the time I walked in the front door this hotel was perfection. The staff were wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful. The room and amenities couldn't be faulted and breakfast and dinner didn't change my initial impressions. I would like to keep this place a secret but that wouldn't be fair to the staff and the owners as they deserved to be commended for their achievements. If I'm ever back in Córdoba, and I hope one day I wil be, their will only be one hotel in Córdoba for me the Balcon.
Stayed two nights but wish I could have stayed longer. Lovely, helpful staff went out of their way to make my trip great. The room was wonderfully appointed and more than I expected. Will definitely stay here again.
Location perfect, service friendly and excellent, rooms good. From having your car parked to a detailed and helpful introduction to Córdoba at check in all went well. The one issue we had was the breakfast room - it was cold and too small. I guess most of the year they breakfast in the courtyard but when it's cold, as on our visit, the breakfast room was used, it is divided from the courtyard by glass panels. We suffered cold draughts. The room is also too small for the number of people accommodated, causing much shuffling past to get to the breakfast buffet. A shame because without the problem of the breakfast room I would have given the hotel 5 stars, as it was cold the room created a significant issue for us. If it's warm, then great. If it's cold be forewarned.
Perfect Location - The location of the hotel is right in the heart of the ancient part of the city, but set up a quiet lane with little or no passing traffic. Less than 5 minutes walk to the ancient mosque/cathedral. Staff and Service - superb. I notice that a recent reviewer from the US said that he liked check in to be fast and efficient. At a business hotel I would agree, but not when on holiday. The reception staff took the time to explain the hotel, its location, its history and architecture - alongside a welcome drink. What nicer way to unwind on holiday/vacation and to feel at home? Service throughout was excellent. Our room was a superior one with plenty of space, beautifully decorated with a lovely bathroom. It had windows on either side which were internal to the building or one of its courtyards, yet had plenty of natural light. Occasionally there was a little passing noise from other guests returning to our rooms but nothing to disturb us. Breakfast was served in a small restaurant on the ground floor. During the warmer months (we stayed in February) breakfast is served in the courtyard. There was a wide choice of food which was excellent. However, our one minor criticism would be that the breakfast room is small with rather too many tables, so it wasn't always easy to get to the table where all the breakfast choices were laid out. It was perfectly tolerable, and won't be a problem when the courtyard is also in use. One suggestion worthy of consideration would be to serve a basic breakfast at the table to reduce the amount of traffic. For example, our hotel in Seville server bread, croissant, fruit, juice and coffee at the table. We dined in the restaurant on 2 evenings of our 4 night stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. The roof terrace had great views towards the mosque/cathedral, over the city and to the hills beyond. A nice place for a drink but non-residents also use this small space. We would certainly stay here again if we visit Cordoba in the future. Highly recommended
Just got back from 10 days in Spain and one of the highlights was this hotel! It was absolutely fantastic! I would go back to Cordoba just to stay in this hotel. It is an old convent which has been converted nicely and has several very peaceful courtyards. It is quiet and intimate, but located in a fantastic setting. Out the backdoor of the hotel is the famous "Calle de Flores" and you are basically a block from the Cordoba's Mosque-Cathedral. The staff could not have been nicer! They were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. There was a flower on the bed when we checked in (as well as a bowl of fresh fruit in the room) as well as a chocolate on our pillow at night. They have a beautiful 3rd floor balcony that overlooks the cathedral and bell tower. You can have a drink up there or even a full meal. Restaurant serves nice meals too. Also, they have unearthed a number of archeological remains there (from as far back as Roman times) and they have them on display which just adds to the ambiance. We took taxi from the train station. I dread having to drive there as it is a maze of VERY narrow streets to get to the hotel. We met a couple there who had a car. They said that basically you get close and then the hotel meets you and takes your car and parks it somewhere for you. Once you are at the hotel, you really don't need a car until you have to leave.
This is an expensive hotel and so my expectations rise accordingly. I just was not all that impressed with this property, at least compared to my fellow travelers. Check in and check out take forever. The gentleman who checked us in and out is very chatty. I am sure that he is trying to be engaging, but I am looking for efficiency in and out and am not particularly interested in having long conversations. Breakfast was a bit too brisk and chaotic for my taste, especially in a boutique hotel. It is buffet style. Upon arriving you are asked for your tea or coffee order, but no one ever shows up again to ask about refills. They seem understaffed or something. In the middle of the breakfast period, one of the waitresses simply disappeared (I assume to attend to some other duty). We had a suite. The layout is good and the quality of the furnishings was very good. The problem was that when they renovated the building, they left in the old windows (at least I hope that they were the old windows). The windows are not soundproof. The little passageway along the hotel was on one side of the bedroom while the courtyard was on the other. People are out at all hours of the night (this, after all, is Spain), and they are not particularly quiet when going home late at night (or early in the morning). In the morning, breakfast is served in the courtyard, which makes sleeping late problematic. Though the A/C was good, the constant noise made sleep conditions less than ideal. They have a little rooftop above which would be a nice place for guests to have a drink at night. Unfortunately, the hotel serves dinner up there, which makes it unusable to guests who are not eating (it is a tiny space with room only for a few tables). Too bad, because the views up there are good. Also, one day, I noted a whole tour going up the stairs of the hotel to the rooftop (to take pictures I guess). It seems odd to let outside tour groups tramp through the hotel, particularly one that advertises itself as boutique. If prices were considerably lower, then I would shrug my shoulders and chalk up the experience to normal imperfections. But at these prices, I am not quite so generous. This is an ok hotel, and not a disaster by any means, but IMO is not a top-of-the-line boutique property. One thing that the hotel does right is that it gives you excellent instructions on how to approach the hotel with your car. They do the same upon leaving. An employee parks your car in a garage and retrieves it upon departure. That part was impressive. Also, the safe in my room did not work. The hotel had a technician in promptly to fix it. Kudos.
