Room - average. clean. No tea or coffee making facilities and the vending machine was out of order. One very flat pillow each. We were at the front and the street below was very noisy, but we were in the City. The location was in walking distance of all the markets and the Cathedral. Or you can catch the underground and a tram i you don't want to walk. Plenty of shops nearby. The staff were very nice and helpful. The oriental lady in the kitchen at breakfast was a little sour looking and didn't speak though. Breakfast buffet had lots to choose from and you never felt rushed. They use local, organic produce and the coffee was lovely.
Never ever had such a small bathroom in a Hotel. Siiting on the loo, my knees hit the opposite wall and for towelling I had to go into the room because there was no space in the bath. The lift is stopping between the floors so you either have to carry your luggage up or down some 8 steps. No coffee selection for breakfast, even if you offer to pay for it. Only Location is great
One of the main things, for me, when staying in a hotel, is how welcoming and friendly the staff are. The man on reception during the day was so helpful, friendly and chatty, it really made our stay that much better. We loved how close the hotel was to the Christmas markets and took us 15 minutes to walk to the cathedral. The room was clean, had everything we needed, comfy beds, great house keeping and spacious. Highlight has to definitely be the reception staff though. It really makes your holiday to be surrounded by such lovely staff. The only downfall was the pillows in the room, they weren't great, but may be to others liking! I also found it really noisy within the hotel, with other guests, however that is no fault of the hotel, just inconsiderate neighbours. Overall great and would definitely recommend. Thank you!
I stayed in Conti Hotel only for one night while in Koln for a trade fair. The hotel is well located since there are different shops and restaurants around, as well as the tram line going to the city centre and the Fair, respectedly 3 and 5 stops away. The staff at the reception was welcoming and nice, and they also gave me some info on Koln as well as the city map. I had a room on the 1st floor, which was big enough for me: king size bed and a spacious bathroom. The room was facing the internal "courtyard" so was very silent though non a beautiful view (just a floor/ceiling). I did not like the breakfast, which was included in the room price: I tried to eat a fruit salad with seeds but the fruit was frozen.
Stayed at the Hotel Conti over three nights as it was recommended by the travel agency associated with the trade show I attended. I left wishing I had made my own travel arrangements as the hotel was very mediocre, even by European standards: PROS: it is located in a decent part of town with abundant options for dining and was within easy walking distance of the shopping district and was close to the trolley stops that took me to the convention center. The staff I dealt with were polite, but seemed disinterested in the comfort of their guests (maybe that is a German thing?). The room was small but clean and the provided continental breakfast was slightly better than average. CONS: unfortunately my stay in Cologne coincided with much warmer than usual weather and this hotel does NOT have air conditioning or even fans in the rooms. As a result my room was sweltering and even the large windows did not provide relief. My room faced the street so I quickly discovered that leaving the windows open at night allowed marginal relief but the street noise was so loud that it was better to be too hot and enjoy the peace and quiet that could only be achieved by keeping the windows closed. The bed was way too firm for my tastes and the duvet was too heavy to use given the heat. Needless to say, I left the hotel tired and sleep deprived after three uncomfortable, sweaty evenings. Internet access was free but VERY slow at times to the point of being unusable for accessing my company network. Unlike many european hotels, there was NO water pot or coffee maker in the room. The only toiletries provided were shampoo/liquid soap in squeeze bottles mounted to the wall of the bathroom and shower. Not a big deal for me but my wife would not have been happy with the lack of shampoo/conditioner if she had been with me. Finally and most disturbingly, I had $100 dollars STOLEN from my briefcase by what had to have been housekeeping. The safe in my room was not working so I purposefully and carefully hid the bulk of my cash but left a $100 bill in the wallet in my brief case to hopefully appease any would be thieves from looking too hard. Sure enough, the $100 was missing from my wallet when I checked out and I wasn't sure which day it disappeared. I told the hotel staff about this theft but they didn't seem to be too concerned about it and didn't ask me to fill out a report or provide any information. In conclusion, this hotel may be acceptable if you stay when the weather is cool, you like firm mattresses and can afford to have some of your money stolen. If these things don't appeal to you I would recommend another option for your stay in Cologne.
The hotel is in the Brussels quarter, close to bars, shops and cafes. Less touristy than the old town (and a lot cooler) and easy to find. Clean, smart room. Nothing fancy, the TV is too small, the hairdryer is as powerful as a kitten breathing on your hair, but the bed(s) were comfortable and the shower excellent. Bit noisy as we were on the street side but not too bad. Ask to be on the other side if noise really bothers you. Breakfast was a high-light. 5 types of muesli, anyone? Basically everything you could want. Staff in reception desk really friendly and helpful.
The hotel was clean, staff helpful. We stayed here for 3 night - it was perfect location as we enjoy walking - about 30 minutes to the Cathedrol on foot. Round the corner from the tram stop so if you're not to keen on walking that helps. Breakfast was good for my other half - he had lots of choice, I am a veggy and this limited my choice. However, I accept that Germany is known to be a lover of meat so I expected it. Only problem was the double bed was 2 singles pushed together, which kept seperating and if you rolled over in the night you could fall down the gap. Also, our room was at the front of the hotel and the bar oposit was very loud, due to the world cup being on at the time of our stay, the room was too hot to have the window closed. The noise is nothing the hotel can control but, maybe aircon might help. Like I said it was great for 3 night at a good price last minute city break. Would stay again for the same price. Staff very helpful and room clean.
Stayed for 5 nights, waking up to the breakfast was a delight! The staff are very friendly here and it is in an excellent location. Only problem for me was with a lack of air con, the nights were extremely hot. Other than that it was a good stay and definitely recommended for the price.
small hotel, but offers everything you would need. Small lobby, but staff friendly and efficient. They have an elevator. Room rather small, but ok. I got one facing the street, which was allegedly bigger, but it was very noisy. Good bed, decent bathroom with shower. Wifi worked well in the room. Hotel well located, right between train station and the university. Breakfast quite good with an impressive spread.
The hotel is close to public transportation, about 12 minutes walk to the Dom, Cologne Cathedral. Breakfast is nice. Wifi works pretty well. The bathroom was clean. The room I stayed in was small, carpet a bit worn and did not appear very clean; mattress was too soft. Occasional stale cigarette odors permeated the room. The street noise could be loud on Friday or Saturday night.
