The Station House Motel

We were in a small cottage in the back of the property with a queen and 2 twin beds. I found it very comfortable, there was a fan available to keep it cool at night. We did not use the kitchen, but the owner gave us some great ideas for restaurants in town and around the area. We slept great, and would love to stay again!

We booked this accommodation - specifically one of the two semi-detached garden family cottages - for 4 nights as a central base for exploring Golden Bay and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage had one spacious double bedroom with kitchen and dining facilities together with a partitioned small bedroom with 2 single beds - clearly designed for a young family of 4. As a couple we therefore found it very spacious with ample storage space. Nevertheless, no doubt reflecting the local market, the nightly rate we paid compared favourably with small motel "studio" rates we have paid elsewhere in South Island. For a family the rate is clearly exceptional value for money. Collingwood is a quiet, charming little town of less than 250 permanent residents but a reasonable tourist trade in the season means that there are several eateries and a small supermarket providing essentials in the Main Street. Station House is situated within 200m of all these facilities and a similar distance to the beach. Add the fact that all the attractions of the Bay are within 30 minutes drive and you have ideally positioned accommodation. We found the owners to be very friendly and free with advice which was a bonus. The main downside is that the fixtures, fittings and furnishings are somewhat dated, although this is undoubtedly reflected in the nightly rate to some extent. There is an attractive garden frontage patio but no views as such. Tea/coffee and toiletry provisions are basic by modern standards.

We stayed 2 nights,as we went on trip to farewell Spit.Lovely motel, handy to shops and restaurant.Lovely ,helpful owner nothing was too much bother for her. A pleasure to have stayed there. Hubby and I both .loved it. THANKYOU Gordon and Pat McCallum Oamaru

In comparrison to a number of other motels we have stayed at during this trip to NZ, we cannot rate the Station House Motel very highly in comparison to its competitors in other locations. Clean and tidy with a partial service facility, the owners do not make the beds, towels are changed as requested and bins emptied daily. Comfortable bed and a large apartment with plenty of space. No wardrobes, just hooks and fours hangers provided. Our apartment lacked air conditioning but there was a pedestal fan provided. The apartment was fully equipped with full kitchen facilities but not of a high standard. Unlimited WiFi, but the TV was just local NZ channels, no Sky TV. The furnishings throughout were somewhat old and tired. Some of the furniture looks to have had a long life and some have been repainted numerous times. Its an old building and the fixtures, fittings and furnishings were similarly old and are now showing their age. Decoroartion wise its old and dated and needs a professional touch. White paint on the bathroom window glass edges shows an amatuer was the painter.

If we come these ways again, definitely staying here again. It was a peaceful & relaxed setting. We stayed in the cottages out the back, perfect for what we needed. Near the beach. Office isn't at the front entrance, round the corner on Gibbs Rd so FYI. Cottage was set up exactly to what you would require. There is a play around if you have kids but also a small playground opposite the road. Restaurants nearby - take supplies though if you don't want to eat out. There is a mini supermarket but it is priced accordingly. Cottage had a nice comfy bed, tv has freeview. Breakfast is provided at a cost. Enjoy your stay :)

Only stayed one night instead of two as heavy rain threatened to disrupt travel. There is only one road in and out serving this area. Spacious room with cooking facilities including two plate hob. Nice outdoor space but unable to use due to weather. Friendly proprietor. Within walking distance of limited facilities.

Easy check in. Friendly and helpful manager. Nice tidy room with normal amenities. Plenty of advice given regarding places to eat and activities to do. We stayed because we were going to do the Farewell Spit trip.

We were looking for somewhere rather quiet and low key for New Years eve on contrast to the past few crazy weeks spent in New Zealand (and to what we do usually) and this place was perfect. We booked the cottage and it was just that. Tucked away at the rear of the property with a decent sized deck to relax outside. A very warm welcome, clean, comfortable and quiet. Collingwood isn't even a village, it's more of a Hamlet but is well looked after and a stones throw from the long clean beach. The local pub is definitely a local but is warm and friendly and held a cracking night to see in the bells. We really loved our stay here. It was only for a few days but if you want uninterrupted r&r I would definitely recommend The Station Motel.

I stayed two nights in this very comfortable motel. I had a room with ensuite and kitchenette. Collingwood is a tiny town and very friendly. I was able to enjoy the gardens and watch the moon rise over the ocean. If you are planning to visit Farewell Spit this is the perfect place to stay.

Good location for town and beach - both within walking distance. Rooms clean, well provisioned and spacious enough for 2 nights. Washing machine and dryer available on request. Parking close to the accommodation.
