After some deliberation, I decided to travel to Kochi with my parents to celebrate my mom's birthday weekend and chose the Taj Malabar for my 4 days - 3 night sojourn this October. Skeptical at first, I decided to go ahead with the booking at the Taj based on the countless good reviews this place had on this website and a few other travel sites. One thing that strikes you about being on any Taj property is their service and hospitality. From the moment we entered the property, the check-in process and the eventual check-out, I encountered more than a dozen staff and helpers, all genuinely interested in providing me and my family with a comfortable and unforgettable experience. I had booked one of the deluxe rooms with a sea facing view, but was upgraded upon arrival to one of their heritage rooms in the first floor and with an impressive view of the harbor and the Wellingdon port. The room was adequately spacious for the triple occupancy we required, with a king bed and a roll-over bed and mattress. The bathroom, spacious and well provided for, consisted of a shower cubicle and a full size bath tub. The fixtures seemed a bit worn out and jaded with a few leaks and though this didn't cause any inconvenience, I was inclined towards reducing my rating on this property by half a star. However, as the hotel more than made up on my other expectations, I am giving it a perfect score of 5 stars. Some of the nice things I experienced in this visit: - Voluntary room upgrade and extended check-out time - Quick and easy check-in and check-out process - Very friendly and courteous staff. I particularly liked the recommendations from Ahilan (Rice boat and Pepper restaurants), Sateesh from concierge and Sunil, the manager on duty. - The complimentary evening high-tea and sunset cruise - The cake upon my arrival for my mom - Clean and spacious rooms, and very comfortable beds - A very lavish and well thought of breakfast spread with some dishes getting changed every day. Somethings for other potential travelers to watch out for: - The hotel is away from the main part of the city, takes about 30-40 mins from Kochi center or Fort Kochi. - There are no activities/restaurants in the vicinity, and if one doesn't have their own mode of transportation or a cooperative cab driver (as in my case), then you are pretty much restricted to the hotel grounds and their in-house entertainment. Its not bad considering the hotel has 4 different restaurants and offers some good variety even if secluded.
A superb getaway during the Diwai break with family! A heritage hotel with a good mix of the old world charm and modern day luxuries. The Taj staff and service never fails to impress and leaves one wanting more.....superb hospitality, great service, quiet and serene with an amazing view of the harbour!!
Excellent Room Fantastic view Food and beverage experience--outstanding. Service-The best Best amenities, and leisure activities. Keep it up. Will visit again and also recommend to all friends. Real value for money
I debated whether to stay across the water from Fort Kochi and was really happy I chose the Taj. I enjoyed taking the ferry in and out of town and was happy to retreat to the property and pool in the hot weather. I took advantage of the free sunset cruise one night and was happy to be a bit removed and on the water. A couple of times I chose to take an uber to and from the old town for convenience. The property's history was interesting and the lobby, rooms, and grounds had a wonderful heritage. I didn't think Rice Boat was quite worth the hype, but the breakfast was outstanding. The staff was friendly and accommodating, particularly Supari.
Taj Malabar once again proved for the all round facility from service, comfort and infrastructure. This is the second time we are staying here, WE CHOSEN THIS PLACE mainly for the service they have offered during the previous stay. Now they have once again proved for the best service. It was a pleasant check in with Miss Supriya for the warm welcome smooth check in. Mr. Sunil Panicker guest Relation manager took care in every aspect with personnel touch. Mr Sibi Mathew GM was a every where. At Taj Malabar very body was excellent in their duty and I would like to mention following persons for their extraordinary service. I remember only few names Mr. Ahilan very good service at the grill with smiling face always. SPl mention to Mr Navaneeth at restaurant, Rahul, santhosh, and Mr Justin and Greesh at Spa and Mr Holten at pool where my son learnt swimming 5 years back now he was tuned by him. Over all The Taj Malabar is a 5 star hotel with 7 star Service. Suggestion: package of Mini lunch or Mini dinner can be planned because all the time we cannot eat very heavily.
The hotel is very nice. My room was in the new building and was having a nice view on the sea side which is the harbour area. Also the rooms in the old building have a nice view on garden and sea. Gym and spa are nice. Personnel very nice. Restaurant is very good and at lunch and breakfast is a buffet while for dinner is a la carte. There is also another restaurant seafood. The guys at the bar in the lobby area are very nice and helpful. I think the best moment of the day is sunset. There is a very nice view on the harbour and on the sea. Staying here you are in the harbour area so there is not so much outside, you have to take a taxi to go out, cannot walk.
It was a memorable stay for us. The ambience was nice. Staff was very courteous and services were comfortable. The complimentary boat ride in the evening was a pleasant surprise. Breathtaking view from the laws.
Sunday 01 October '17 we arrived at the Vivanta by Taj Malabar for the last 3 days of our honeymoon. As we stayed here last year and knew it was good, so we chose again for the Vivanta. This year actually exceeded our expectations. Straight away we were recognized by several members of staff from last year. Ahilin invited us the last night for their bbq outside. This was really amazing. The food was outstanding. The food was prepared outside in an open kitchin. Ahilin gave us a perfect spot to oversee the river and Cochin Port. All you can eat bbq with lots of fish, chicken, beef and lamb. Yummi. On top sf that we saw our friend Jackson wo was just back from a 5 day leave and he upgraded us to a suite for the last night. Amazing. A huge room with a 4 posted bed, 2 tv's, seating area, balcony and a bathroom big enough to dance in with a shower and a bath. At midnight (we just arrived in our room) Jackson and 2 members of staff came to the room with a birthday cake and sang happy birthday as it was my birthday and wished me happy birthday. We already had a cake on arrival for our honeymoon. I can highly recommend this hotel and all their services. Very professional staff who know how to spoil their guests. Nothing is too much. We had the best time ever.
Surrounded by the harbour and the backwaters, Taj Malabar takes the cake for being by far the perfectly located hotel in all of Kochi. We were here for 4 days and were upgraded to the exquisite charm room on the 7th floor. This room had 2 large windows facing the harbour and the backwaters. It was a delight watching big and small ships coming in and especially the container ships coming in to be loaded and unloaded. The charm rooms are smaller than the heritage wing ones but the higher floor does really work better. The bar near the lobby was fun with the live singers in the eve. Jaimom the bar man was churning out some great cocktails. The breakfast spread and variety was good and the sit out near the restaurant was simply breath taking with its views. We truly enjoyed our stay as something about being surrounded by a water body does have its special charm. There was only one big issue about our stay and that was the difficulty in finding Ubers and Ola cabs. Since we had come for a function and had to commute everyday, sometimes twice a day, the lack of cabs around made it absolutely painful. We used to be forced to use the marked up and expensive private taxis which were just outside of the hotel. Other than that we had a lovely stay and the service was exemplary as always.
One of the most enjoyable stay in India. All amenities taken cared of, friendly and polite staff; enjoyable excursions and cultural evening. Great location although not at the heart of downtown stay. Good dining experience although dining buy poolside was expensive. Recommend staying at this beautiful hotel.
