We were very happy with our stay. We were provided inter connected rooms which was a great positive as we were traveling with our old parents. Staff was very helpful and provided personalized service, specially the chefs as my mother is allergic to garlic. We are very thankful to the chefs to have taken care of her so well during the stay. The gym, while small, is good enough for those who want to stay fit during a holiday, equipment was well maintained. The infinity pool was also quite nice. Also, Abdul Salim from the concierge was very helpful in arranging a transport for us at a short notice from Cochin to Periyar which was again much appreciated.
We checked in on Dec 30th, 2017 and checked out on Jan 1st, 2018. We were there for the new year eve party. The dinner buffet was one of the largest spreads I have seen and experienced. Food was excellent and lots of pain taken by the staff to look at every detail. The party was good and the band performed well. Only disappointment was the DJ who played some very intense techno music very early and deterred people from dancing. We enjoyed the entire stay including the sunset cruise. We stayed in one of the suites with a balcony which was awesome especially the view.
Wellingdon Island is uninteresting, only thing of note there is hotel. Have to drive 30 mins each way to town. Hotel relatively clean but fixtures though functional are 20 years old and in need of upgrade. Hotel looks out on harbor access so lots if shipping activity to watch, nice to be on water, view is industrial. Pool and small spa/gym are fine. Staff friendly, anticipate little, have to be asked 2x. Definitely a lower level Taj property. Rice Boat restaurant food very good.
We loved the old world charm at Vivanta by Taj Malabar, Kochi. Settling into our Heritage Room and being taken care off by that kind of hospitality is rare nowadays. The breakfast, the pub, the Rice Boat, the room service was all exemplary. We were 6 of us and thoroughly enjoyed the Dal Makani, which was out of this world. On our last night Chef Thomas cooked us an authentic Thai chicken fried rice with fried egg meal!! It completely blew us away! The yacht they have is just the perfect size and fit ya all with Beds and a deck and indoor living and dining. The impressive Kochi coastal guards- port and navy patrolling to keep the waters safe was lovely to see. Going about town we saw the Chinese Nets and they were just spectacular. The Spice market was a hit! Dutch & Portuguese influence from a time gone by still resonates with this wonderful city as we drove by houses and churches. The people were calmer, happier and helpful in Kochi. As we left we happily took back with us 10 kgs of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and peppercorn! A big big thank you to Mr. Thomas Rulin, who made our stay at Taj Malabar extraordinary. Something he said about him being old so is his hotel..but that’s the old world charm we take away with us fondly.
Travelers accustomed to the highest end hotels will be disappointed by this resort. Do not let the Taj name distract you. The good: Wonderful, well meaning, cheerful, hardworking staff. Great placement on water, away from hustle and noise of town. Very good buffet breakfast. Not good: Physical plant harkens to 1980s Clean grounds but not spiffy Mold smell pervades when not ‘masked’ by piped faux flower scent (lobby) Rooms: Synthetic over big pillows, 0 thread count sheets Grimey pulls bathroom/bedrooms door Cheap fuddy duddy furniture throughout Perhaps this is as high end as it gets in Kochi, which is fine, as long as you know up front and can accept the cost. NB ask for water view or you will be looking at parking lot.
This is a fabulous hotel overlooking the harbour and the Kochin Fort areas We dined at their outdoor buffet restaurant right at the edge of the Island Super food, great service! Oh, they have a perfect training pool 25m long, croquet lawn and a divine gym with a killer view of the harbour. Adjacent to the pool is their small beach, almost at the water’s edge Worth another visit Well done and thanks
Great for family getaway, great to get some rest from your busy life. I'd recommend it to anyone. It truly is like a perfect holiday.” One of the most beautiful places we've had, very friendly staff, everything possible, perfect location in nature . Though must say hotel is bit over priced as in spite of spending 15K per room , we had to pay for breakfast separately as it was not included in our booking as we were informed by hotel management
Staying at Taj Malabar is a pleasure always and we are regular. If staying in Kochi, it has to be Taj. They go extra mile to make your stay wonderful. This trip, we landed on there Jerry in a boat who had no idea that boat needed a permit from security forces to come to Taj Jetty. We were stopped by CISF to get to jetty. Taj team did their best to make sure that we do not suffer for fault of boat and made sure to get us allowed at Jetty. Stay after landing was wonderful as always. We were accompanied by our friends whom we had recommended Taj and they were as delighted as we were.
The Vivanta Malabar lives up to the excellent hospitality of the Taj hotels. The property is beautiful and a has a very professional staff who go out of there way to make all the guests comfortable. The location is on the waterfront and the view is amazing. Situated on the Willingdon island,it is away from the tourist destinations and commuting is a problem during rush hours. So keep ur schedule flexible. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the dinner we ordered thru room service was perfect. As we had an early morning flight, the packed breakfast that they did for us was great. Thanks very much. All in all a wonderful stay.
Very nice and cosy room overlooking the back waters. The calm and comfort not far away from the busy Kochi. The bathroom was very clean with plenty of fresh towels every day.Great buffet breakfast with delicious food . Good choice of dining. My favorite was the outside grill with a choice of seafood, fish, chicken and lamb. The staff is very helpful, always smiling , friendly and helpful.
