The climatic health resort of Altenau is not only one of the entry points for hikes on the Harz Witches' Trail, but is also home to the largest herb park in Europe with a beautiful spice gallery. A visit to Altenau's private brewery with a guided tour and tasting is also not to be missed. It is the only remaining brewery in the Upper Harz. Altenau is in the middle of the Upper Harz, about ten kilometres from Clausthal-Zellerfeld and 15 kilometres from Goslar. To the east, the summit of the Brocken is 12 kilometres away.
