This is a very large hotel with a wide variety of services. The WiFi was fast. Our room was large & clean. The restaurant was fine. Moderately priced with food that was fine – not great. The evening we were there they were under staffed. Our waitress was good – she was just the only one for the entire bar/restaurant.
Hubby and I booked directly with hotel for this wee break as it offered a deal on 2 nights with one evening meal. Hotel is pleasant and seems to be well utilised by locals which is always a good sign. There appears to be a lot of dancing and music on offer a the weekend and that did increase the numbers on the Sunday night but the atmosphere was lively with more mature drinkers and dancers. Room was absolutely fine and the food at the bar was more than adequate. The restaurant did appear under used on the Sunday night with only a handful actually eating so the atmosphere was a bit flat. Pool area was good with sauna and steam room both operational. Claremorris is limited in what it can offer but its a good base for some travel. One bonus is that the staff were very friendly.
The McWilliams Park Hotel is the nicest hotel in the area. The entire staff was extremely pleasant and very helpful, especially Gemma, Ann Marie & Jean who kept our crowd of 90 people happy! The rest of the hotel staff went out of the way to help, also. Some of the conference equipment should be updated & checked before large events, but the problems were worked out quickly by the hotel staff. Breakfast could have started earlier than 7:30, but it was good. I would definitely stay at one of their associated hotels in the future when in their beautiful country.
After a rough start trying to make a booking months in advance using our voucher for 2 nights bed and breakfast and 1 evening meal we had a decent stay in this hotel last week. The room was clean and large, though the view of the car park wouldn't be anything special. The hotel is mostly used as a base for people getting to Knock or Croagh Patrick and this is evident by the large number of buses constantly picking up and dropping off visitors. There isn't much around if this isn't your reason for staying here. Though the bar is usually lively at the weekend and the bar food is quite tasty. Also you can use the leisure facilities including pool. All in all an average stay in a decent hotel.
my wife & i stayed here for a Fri & Sat night, looking forward to a relaxing well earned break. Although the hotel was comfortable it lacked atmosphere & personal attentiveness. On checking in no info was laid to us, i.e, where the restaurant is, no times detailed for dinner or breakfast, or much about the leisure facilities. We upgraded to a suite which was lovely, 2 sofas, large breakfast\dinner table & a welcome amenity, but no fridge. Separate bedroom, large comfortable bed, & nice bathroom with jacuzzi & separate shower, which did splurt hot & cold water, annoying!! As a non drinker i did ask when booking if they had any alcohol free beers, which replied "oh yes, plenty", only to find they had only Becks, which was a let down because i was praying any other beer than that!! Food basic, & breakfast not 4*, cold buffet minimum, large bowl of mushy tinned grapefruit, fresh fruit salad of melon & apple, hot buffet nice, & hot!! It was a country weekend as well, so very very busy, & alot of children as well, so this made it only a satisfactory stay, swimming pool was good, but again a lot of kids, & hot tub not working. I would only rate this 3*, but still was nice to get the break!!
Unfortunately we were there 5 days for business! After 5 days, we saw the good AND the bad! The bad: beds are lumpy & pillows uncomfortable, there is No AC in bedrooms and the heat is on ALL the time, rooms are on a main road so traffic keeps you awake!, room service is sporadic( one day the room is cleaned & bed made- next day nothing), Bar service is inconsistent ( food arrived quickly then waitress disappeared and never saw her again), Bar food is OK, breakfast didn't start till 7:30 ( inconvenient for our early work schedule) and the biggest bad of all- conference AV is outdated! Microphones cut in and out & quickly died. THE GOOD: Conference staff couldn't do enough for us! They really tried to fix every problem& they did what they could, the hotel I'd modern & rooms spacious, leisure center has a pool& jacuzzi, and gym, and the hotel is gorgeous!!
Visited here for dinner during the week as my colleague was staying overnight. Ordered cod and chips, it was very well presented and tasted great. Went on to order white chocolate cheesecake, this tasted divine.
We came for a weekend couples break and it was perfect! The staff were so friendly, there is a bar that is lovely there and there is a restaurant too that we booked into and the food was delicious and again the restaurant staff were very polite!
We attended a family wedding at the McWilliam Park in late May. The hotel is very easy to get to and has ample car parking. Checkin was simple and we got to our spacious room which had a double and a single bed. The room was clean and the bathroom also roomy. There were tea making facilities and a valuables safe in the room together with an ironing board and iron. The shower was in the bath but was warm and powerful. Breakfast was excellent and the food at the wedding itself as good as I've had at a wedding. Staff throughout were pleasant and courteous and the leisure facilities also very good although in fairness I only used the pool. My only minor gripe is that the rooms and indeed the hotel in general were too warm. It was 27 degrees outside on the day we arrived and even with an open window it was a little uncomfortable to sleep. Air conditioning which there appears to be in the main function room all over the hotel would be a great asset! Overall I'd have no hesitation booking the McWilliam Park again.
Excellent hotel, very good facilities. Great roomy room. Nice leisure centre. Food was excellent and beautifully served and presented. Room service very good. Bathroom huge and lots of hot water. Lovely fluffy towels. Booked through Newmarket Holidays who didn't have a bad word to say about the hotel. Bar staff brilliant and so friendly as were dining room staff. Couldn't do enough for us to make our stay special.
