The positive: The staff were nice and helpful. The room/bed was clean (in general). The location is convenient. It's across from the Maya Mall. The little restaurant across from the hotel is AMAZING! She also does laundry if you need it. You really are within walking distance from everywhere. The Negative: I wanted to like this property because it was recommended to me. The place was terrible. This hotel is old and it shows. The rooms are dated. The beds are very hard and the showers are horrible. The smell like mold, are full of soap scum and just look dirty. The furniture is stained and ripped in some places. It also has a less than pleasant smell. We changed rooms two times because the air did not work properly. By the time we got to the 3rd room, we decided to just check out. I guess this hotel is fine if you don't really care where you sleep, but I am not that kind of traveller. I need to feel comfortable in my surroundings. So, stay at your own risk.
Furama hotel is ideally situated for exploring Chiang Mai old walled town. Close to malls and main roads. This hotel was properly one of the grand hotels about twenty years ago. The décor is outdated. The rooms however are large but still has the old wooden furniture and remains of the kitchenette. The hotel has two pools and also a sauna and steam room. The sauna and steam room was out of order for the duration of my stay there. Breakfast is fairly good and varied. The lobby is large with plenty of seating. The carpet however was very dirty and in need of a thorough clean. Staff was very polite and helpful. Would I stay here again. Yes I would even though the hotel was in need of an upgrade.
Please ignore the negative reviews about this hotel. We planned on staying 5 nights but loved it that much we extended it to 6. The rooms are so spacious and clean, you are given a free bottle of water daily. The staff are SO friendly, always greet you, hold doors open for you etc. Most days we had the top swimming pool to ourselves which was nice and peaceful, pool is also clean. I food here is pretty average to be honest, we ate out a lot of the time - don't let that put you off though! We couldn't believe how cheap this hotel was (£140 for 5 nights - pretty cheap considering it's a lovely hotel!). I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone! Thank you for a lovely stay Furama :-).
Loved this place that much we decided to extend our stay. Not what I was expecting at all. The service is excellent, staff are so friendly and always smile and want to help, very clean, there are two pools and the one on the 17th floor is amazing! Not busy at all and very peaceful. About 5/10 min walk into the town.
Stayed room 1223 on last weekend. Thank you for early check in at 12:00 hrs. But better if your floor supervisor hav to check the room before gave to the customer. I found 1 cigarette on the floor, 1 piece of paper, dust, stain some hair and 1 painting on the wall.
My Chinese friend booked this for us as a present. I wish he wouldn't have. We do not have unrealistic expections and are not fussy people - we stay in open-air bungalows with ants and cockroaches and love those experiences. We'll pay $5 USD to stay in a crap hole, cause $5. This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. It's not. I think my friend paid something like $40 USD/night. You can usually get quite a lot for that in Thailand. The lobby is gorgeous, the room is filthy. See pics - of which I have lots more but can only post 10. The pillow had BLOOD on it. We asked the maid to come clean immediately after checking in but it was still gross and smelly afterwards (and same after next day maid service). She just used a duster on a stick to push dirt around the floor. I don't think it's ever seen a mop: dust and streaks of who knows what everywhere. The kitchen sink had noodle leftovers in it and smells like toilet. The maid "cleaned" it but it still is digusting (again, if we paid even $10 for this we wouldn't complain but this is supposed to be a fancy hotel). Other "highlights": pubic hair on the bed, shower glass has never been cleaned, dripping faucet, dirty mirror, large face or handprint on the glass by the kitchen, filthy windows, stained headboard, dust build-up, dirty mattresses piled all down the hallway. Shall I go on? The location is not great. Close to a mall but we don't travel in Thailand for malls (although there's a cool cheap cafeteria type food court - the one upstairs, not the basement). I'd have preferred to stay closer to old town. One good note: As mentioned, the lobby is beautiful. We booked a trip to Doi Inthanon National Park (1,000B/person) which was great! If my friend and his gf weren't staying here for these 3 days, we would have left immediately. Because I didn't book myself I couldn't leave a review (normally using Agoda or Expedia), that's why I'm on here and don't normally post here. Someone else just had to know how gross this is.
I used to stay at this hotel whenever I had business trip in Chiangmai. As someone mentioned earlier, this hotel has potential but the general experience is a disappointment Good points: - Furama is a very prestige brand name and has variety of hotel and service around the world. This hotel offer a large number of rooms with full services - Location: about 30mins from airport and very close to Maya shopping mall and the night market area - There’s bar on the rooftop which has very good food and music and provides great view of the town Bad points: - Even though I stayed there 4-5 times, the hotel didn’t record my profile. Every time I checked-in, I have to fill in the form, show my passport and credit card to receptionist (Actually I don’t have to repeat these actions at other hotels) - When I check-in, receptionist gave me 2 cards/keys: one for elevator and one for room. The one for elevator sometimes doesn’t work. The key for room is a traditional one (not the electric one). - The room is big but toilet always scared me. One time there was hair inside toilet bowl and I had to request hotel for changing room. The bath tub looked like it hadn’t been used for ages… - Breakfast is not diversified, almost the same every time I ate. The food is like cooked for Chinese people - There’re lots of noisy Chinese staying at this hotel (don’t know why this place is so popular among those people). They’re very noisy, especially the morning time when they gather in dining room for breakfast and main hall waiting for car pick-up
We stayed here for 5 days, 5 days too long. 3 of those days not possible to use roof top pool, which is very small, the pictures are deceiving, as closed for private function on the evening, another day told to leave at 1530h. Only 4 sunbeds. We had a suite which we did not book and quite honestly would have preferred a smaller room which was clean. There was weeks of dust in certain areas of the rooms and the windows are filthy. We only used the hotel to sleep in as we found the whole place depressing.
I read many reviews and all the bad reviews and complaints are not at all addressed, as one would expect since the replies to the reviews insist they will try to fix it and make it better. They sure have not done anything to 'fix' any of the issues that customers have complained about. The room sizes are nice, but unfortunately they are still not well maintained. There is mould in the tub, shower, and faucets; pipes are being held together with electrical tape. The windows and balconies (including 5th floor pool) are filled with pigeon droppings; you can barely see out the windows because of it. There is dust on all the shelving, showing nothing is properly cleaned. The wallpaper is stained, falling off, and pasted over each other half hazardly. My curtain had a huge rip/hole right in the middle of it; very obvious and ugly. The breakfast buffet is fine (not a 4star standard by all means) but the real problem is that it is over-crowded from 7:30am, so much so that I went to get a plate and came back to my table to find 2 strangers sitting there. They didn't even bother asking to sit with me and laughed when I explained how rude it was to just overtake my table. The hotel should have people make reservations or find another system to ensure this does not continue happening. Also, their paperwork at the restaurant is not accurate. My room was not on the list, even though my booking said it had breakfast (I even double checked at check in and again when I went for breakfast and the hostess did not find my number on the list) Although I went to clarify the issue at the front desk, I still received a bill that I had to argue about not being charged for. There are also many ignorant Chinese people who have no concern for anyone but themselves. I purposely sat far away from them at the pool in order to avoid being in their way and still their children were splashing me; even after I asked on many occasions to not splash me as I was texting on my phone. The hotel staff should speak to them directly but instead they just turn a blind eye. They also take up all the space everywhere without caring. More than 3 times one morning, I was hit by someone not paying attention with their plates of food and their glasses of juice, all in less than an hour. The pools could be great but as mentioned in other reviews there is barely any seating at either pool; four lounge chairs is simply not enough to accommodate an entire hotel. The 5th floor pool is full of bird poo EVERYWHERE and the showers in the pool room barely spray water. The hot water is, also, practically non-existent. One of the saunas was closed for maintenance and the 'hot tub/spa' thing was disgusting and not well maintained at all. It is so unfortunate that the hotel has received so much feedback about this and did not bother to do anything, even though they promise to do so. I only booked here thinking that those promises were legit and now I regret it. I have travelled all over East Asia and have stayed in cleaner, more efficiently run hostels for a third of the price. Overall, I am very disappointed in this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone.
We stayed three nights in total. The staff are courteous and helpful. The rooms were clean, cool and well stocked. The breakfast included was more than adequate for us Canadians. We did do the Night Plaza which is a little far away but we happened upon a couple other markets within walking distance. The MAYA Plaza is a short walk away. All in all, a great place to stay.
