I like hotel's atmosphere and decorations. The room was a bit smaller than i expected but it was clean. Just one thing about the bathroom, the door is a see thru style. Despite i came to stay with my boyfriend, i still need some privacy when i use the restroom 😂. Other than that, everything was fine.
My boyfriend and I stayed 6 nights in total at the Bodhi Serene and it was always a pleasure to come back ! We had two types of room, one Deluxe room which had a nice Thai style and one Deluxe grand room in the new building which was more modern. We had a great stay in both rooms and we would go back there eyes closed. The pool on the roof is just a dream ! What a pleasure to enjoy the sun and take a bath in the morning after breakfast or in the afternoon after an excursion. The breakfast is quite ok you can get get eggs, omelette, bacon, waffles, pancakes etc... my boyfriend was only missing some cheese but I was happy with the fruits and the yogurts. The staff was really helpful, they called the excursion organizer for us and also organized a cheap taxi to go to the airport, thanks to all of them ! Finally, the location in the old city is just perfect with everything just beside. I hope we can come back soon to the Bodhi Serene !
Since 1997 we’ve stayed +-15 times in Chiang Mai, in a double dozen other hotels. We discovered Bodhi Serene in 2006 when it was brandnew : at that time we’ve got a brief visit to this hotel and we were really impressed. But we never stayed here … until now. I’ve made my 2 nights reservation 4 months in advance at booking.com for a cancelable rate of 3600baht/night (90€) for a standard “Grand Superior” room, taxes and breakfast for 2 included. But there are larger and more luxurious rooms with balcony (and more expensive). The original hotel is low rise (groundfloor and 2 storeys, 45 rooms) build in a square surrounding the artistically landscaped garden. The 12 new rooms are in a separate block (no garden view). There are 7 different rooms : Deluxe, Grand Deluxe, Grand Superior, Executive, Grand Executive, 1 bedroom suite and 2 bedroom suite, all rooms of different lay out, size, price and age (so, difficult to compare). Bodhi Serene is quietly located right in the center of Old Chiang Mai and 1.2km from the night market (perfectly walkable in 15 minutes unless you are disabled or take the shuttle). And only 400m from famous Wat Chedi Luang. Our “Grand superior” room in the new block on 1th floor was medium large (6x4m=24m², including bathroom), super comfortable, luxurious design, very clean, and quiet at night, wooden floor. Excellent bed, crispy sheets and 2 pillows/pp. Good and silent airco, flatscreen TV, patio with 2 seats and a small separate swimmingpool (larger pool on first floor original building), but no view on the central garden. Good and silent airco. Bathroom was spacious and clean, includes rainshower, all toiletries provided. Complimentary : Wifi, waterkettle coffee/tea, mini fridge. No elevators. Staff is professional and friendly, speaking reasonable english (much easier to understand than some London receptionists with a Cockney accent) Breakfast buffet was sumptuous and tasteful, only outside seating; from 6.30am until 10.30am. The restaurant on first floor serves also good lunch and dinner. Pleasant and good swimmingpool (15x6m) on first floor and +-12 sunloungers and other seats available. Conclussion : despite its age, one of the better boutique hotels in Chiang Mai (hence the high ranking and scores at tripadvisor and booking.com) but its better to take the rooms around the garden (more expensive). Location : perfect for the old city but if you are an ardent supporter of the night market than there are better located options.
Well located in the heart of old Chiang Mai, once a splendid hotel, now considerably declining. I stayed here 5 years ago & it changed a lot. The rooms in northern Thai style still appear to be clean, but there was a cockroach in the bathroom, the sink was damaged, the shower either too hot or too cold. Worse even the housekeeping: although I asked to change the bed linen after two of the four nights of my stay they were not changed. Even I complained about it at the reception, they still did not change it during my whole stay. The Wifi like an echo from ten years ago: coming & going, I had to login around 60 times in 4 days. If it wasn't for the location, the garden & maybe the breakfast I'd rate it as 2 out of 10. Or: pretty bad value for the money.
We stayed over Christmas, first I must say I found the staff excellent and cannot understand some of the negative reviews. They say first impressions count we were collected from the airport buy the hotel free courtesy bus, hotel is near airport everything went smoothly unlike some drivers at hotels we were not allowed to handle anything the cases were taken to the room and waiting for us after registration with the rest of the stay was just a pleasurable. The famous Sunday market is within easy walking distance. Food , room service and amenities were excellent. Only minor complaint was the lack of a door between the shower/toilet and the wash area. We arranged a trip to see the Queens gardens our driver stayed on location picked us up immediately our tour was over took us back to town and dropped us off I can certainly recommend using this service.
This hotel is clean and tasteful, the large round bathtubs in the rooms are a dream and the beds are comfy and cozy. The rooftop pool is lovely and the breakfast buffet, although mediocre quality, is pleasant. I come here periodically as a "staycation" and always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. The staff is mostly friendly and helpful. There are free bicycles to use and airport transfers for travellers. The location is ideal for tourists (we don't even leave though when we stay!). Though this hotel is considerably more expensive than others in the area you really do get what you pay for, the value is excellent.
This hotel is in an amazing location and is a great price - what more could you want? The grounds are fine - they have a nice courtyard and a pool we never used - you can walk around the whole old city and should be outside!! Our room was a little small - the bathroom has no door.. which is odd? And it was a bit dirty - needed some fresh paint for sure - but all in all, it was great. Nice breakfast buffet and complimentary car to the night market. They also provide adventure services if you want. Everyone was nice and accommodating - there was security outside so we always felt safe. It's a great, small hotel for a few days, cheap, good location. Good for couples and solo travelers - I'd suggest a larger resort for families... I highly recommend though.
I was a part of the 23 family member group staying at this hotel in the last week of 2016. The hotel is just off the road with no garden outside. They do have a garden courtyard and a swimming pool (no diving). Rooms are spacious but little worn out interior. As expected the restaurant offers very few vegetarian choice. WiFi Internet is not stable. Though hotel is right off the road,it is peaceful inside. Very well located with plenty of interesting places within walking distance. It has no lift so it may pose some problem for older persons.
We enjoyed our week here, staying in the walled town for the first time, and this traditional style hotel is in a great spot, close to food and massage shops and a 5 minute walk to the loi kroth road, where the evening night life is. The staff were friendly and polite but it did feel that they were missing someone front of house to engage with the guests and make us feel more welcome. The wifi is frustrating and drops out (as is the case in most hotels in thailand). We would have liked to see a turn down service to light oil burners, spray for mosquitoes and offer mosi coils especially for those staying around the garden. We also hired bikes which is great to explore the wall town but they could use a service. There are limited sunbeds which you can lay on your front so it would be good to see a limit on how long you can reserve them for as towels were left on them and other customers had disapeared for ages. We did an early excursion and the hotel offered a packed breakfast to take with us instead of regularly breakfast at no extra cost which was very helpful.
We stayed for a five days during the Christmas holidays and were very pleased. The pros: - Although the road infront of the hotel is busy and loud, once one enters the hotel with its high wall and lovely garden, calmness takes over. - Helpful and polite employees at tne reception, ready to answer questions, show us around the hotel and assist anyway they can. - There is a tourist office (a table with brochures to be accurate) that organises all kind of private or group excursions for all possible budgets. We participated to three and are perfectly satisfied with all of tnem. - Big breakfst buffet with fresh omelette and eggs prepared on tne spot for us. -The nicely decorated rooms have big balconies/ terrace with a sitting bench and a drying rack. The cons: - The swimming pool is only 90cm deep according to the sign next to it. It is more of a kids pool, nice to look at though. - The internet is very unstable and weak. We got logged out or could't log in at all at times. - The doors to the rooms sometimes need special treetment to close, resulting into many guests just banging them shut, which was loud and unpleasant for us. There is also a hotel restaurant, wbich is nothing much, but the food and the prices were ok. The drinks offered were also good. Pleasant, if one doesn't feel like going out.
