I'm not a huge fan of Holiday Inn properties, even Crowne Plazas. However, this property is better than most and exceeded my expectations. Good location, large rooms and a decent breakfast buffet (although later hotels on our trip far exceeded this breakfast buffet). Carpets were stained though but found that often in China. Loved the city and did love this location so would absolutely stay at this hotel again for those reasons. Just needs some attention to detail.
It is a little bit dated but it was still a nice hotel. It was roomy and well appointed. Free bottled water was provided each day and there was also free wi-fi. The bed was quite comfortable. This hotel was in a good position in the city. I also enjoyed the breakfast selection.
The Crowne Plaza City Center has a lot going for it, despite obvious signs of being rather dated. The lobby is spacious, and beautiful marble flows everywhere. Even with limited English-speaking staff, there is usually someone capable within a few feet, and Mr. Alex Wu, assistant manager, was especially helpful. The rooms need updating, too many stains on the carpeting, old draperies, old furniture. The provided USB charging hub was very nice, but there should be one on each side, for couples. This is a good place to stay when downtown, can access the pedestrian walk and many, many restaurants easily. I would consider returning, since an IHG brand and can enjoy some upgrades.
My husband & I were in Chengdu on a house hunting trip as he is being relocated from the US. We chose this hotel for its proximity to everything we wanted to research within walking distance. Location is FABULOUS! What sets this hotel apart is the service. The young ladies working in the Club Lounge were EXCEPTIONAL. We were there morning & evenings and they never failed to have such warm greetings & exceptional service. Breakfast service was just as wonderful. We were fortunate enough to make an acquaintance with William the GM & felt so taken under his wing with city insights & recommendations. We left feeling like we’d made our first friend in our new home. Wonderful visit that left us feeling very at home even though we were on the other side of the planet. Can’t wait to get back!
Very welcoming hotel with friendly and helpful staff. First class facilities with an awesome breakfast. Our 7th floor room's view was blocked by some sort of air conditioning unit, but I wasn't really there for the view.
The hotel is beautiful and only a few years old as of 2018. I had a corner room that was beautiful on the 20th floor. Breakfast was amazing with tons of variety and choices. Lounge is nice and good selection of beverages. Outdoor pool, fitness area and walking distance to restaurants. Bed is very soft and nice living room off the side. Sunken tub and shower. Free bottled water and tea.
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our tour organized by the Sinorama Group. The room was well maintained and bed very comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked well. The breakfasts were excellent with a good range of hot and cold, Chinese and western fare. I particularly liked the availability of fresh expresso based coffee! This was an excellent location for night time walks around the vibrant city centre. We like to open windows for fresh air when possible and the street noise was not excessive.
It is the most RACIST hotel I ever stayed! Not Asian-friendly. The front office staff is super racist and only favor Caucasian or White guests. I arrived at the hotel around 8 or 9-ish pm. The IHG member check-in area was not staffed, so I queued up near the counter. I have been waiting there for couple minutes, and more people showed up and lined up after me. Then, two arrogant White men just cut the line and approached one of the front desk staff after the staff just finished checking in another guest. I politely talked to the two White men about the line in case they missed it. They took a peak and ignored what I just said. What's more furious is the front desk lady started to check in the two White men and ignoring the long line and the fact that they were cutting the line! I complained to the lady who checked in me, and she did not bother to apologize and reacted like it's not her business. Later, a lady in a suit approached and welcomed me as a Spire member. I complained to her about it once again, and she kept saying we upgraded your room but no apology at all. It turned out my room got upgraded to a higher floor, but the room type was exactly what I booked. I am Chinese and IHG Spire member. I am grateful for the upgrade but really disappointed about the racism experience, especially given that I am a Chinese staying in a hotel in China and discriminated for being a Chinese.
The location of the hotel was great as was the service. I do think our bathroom could have used an update but the room felt like a typical Crowne plaza. The sky bar was awesome - really good views of the city though they did run out of Tsingtao and bottled water.
Compared to accommodation we had in China the rooms seemed small. Perhaps because we had two single beds. Seemed very expensive to upgrade to Club floor. Faciliteis are good. Set back from a main road so reasonably quiet.
