Radisson Blu Hotel, Chelyabinsk5.0 out of 5.0

These Radissons in Russia just have no personality at all. It's like they are run by robots. This was probably the worst one I've had for that. the good: breakfast was nice, but 1000 rub? air con worked great the bad: reception staff were totally unfriendly to borderline hostile and would not do a single thing to accommodate guest requests gym is not open 24 hours Check in was reasonably fast but none of the special requests I made were even acknowledged and when I asked it was clear they were not only not passed to the hotel, but the reception staff had no interest in hearing them. The elevators are unbelievably slow. Rooms are very simple. The biggest problem is the "queen" is just two singles pushed together - and they are not locked or attached at all. In the middle of the night I found myself nearly on the floor between the two beds! If it's a real queen, call it a queen, if it's two singles pushed together, that should be in the booking and on the web site as "we're too cheap to order large mattresses, so our queens are not actually real queens". Wifi didn't work at all. Cleanliness was not great - especially in the bathroom. Gym only opens at 6am. Not good for people on a schedule and people who are changing time zones. Requests to open it early were met with near violent protest by not only the front desk staff but also the night manager. Not even a thought of solving the problem. The gym has the not-so-ergonomic Technogym equipment and the bottom of the line version, but what I used was functional. If I have to go again to Chelyabinsk, I'll look for another option.
If you absolutely must stay in Chelyabinsk and there is no way to avoid this city, then the only hotel is the Radisson. This is the best hotel in the city. Well located, clean, good breakfast, quiet, reasonably priced (for foreigners). The AC works great, good service, and it is the only refuge you will get. The pool is great, as well as the sauna and Turkish bath. I highly recommend it.
First time at a Radisson Blu - most impressed. Great welcome - room fantastic and the breakfast ( European) brilliant. Will definitely use this group of hotels again. Concierge staff especially helpful.
The hotel was well located close to the sights we were interested in. The city has an undeserved reputation for being just an industrial center but we found the Regional Museum, pedestrian street, parks and restaurants to be worthy of a few days stay. The hotel was the perfect location for our time in Chelyabinsk. Highly recommended.
It's probably the best hotel in Chelyabinsk, the leisure facilities are very nice, rooms are spacious, bathrooms light and well designed. The bed was very comfy and the view was actually pretty OK too. The breakfast was very good, always fresh and staff very attentive. They always topped up food so it was hot and fresh, even if it was not such a busy breakfast time. The on site restaurant is very good, also, with nice beer made on site. My only major complaint was the room was very hot (26C) when I arrived. I know Russian's like their buildings to be very warm so was not surprised, but I was surprised that it is not possible to lower the temperature. I applied the thermostat to the minimum (there is no temperature setting, just a degree of +/-). After 2 hours, the temperature had not changed, so I phoned reception. They immediately sent someone to help, who, upon walking in, told me that the air conditioning ONLY heats and does not cool. The solution is to open the window. Obviously not a great solution; despite it being -22C outside, the window opens 15cm and is a hinged window, so you don't actually get any cold air inside. After 2 hours trying to sleep like this, with the industrial noises of the city outside, I closed the window and sweated for 3 days. So really, for me, that's a big downside as what is the point of an air conditioning system that cannot pipe cold air from outside? It's free!
I am getting used to staying in Radissons. They are good hotels for business travellers. Comfortable beds, clean rooms, efficient friendly staff. This stay was fine. Negative was that the room was way too hot. I left the window open 3 hours at -16 outside and it was still baking... Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. the bed was great though and I slept pretty well
You can find everything what you can expect from good Radisson hotel there and I could award them with the maximal note easily, if not one blemish on the perfectness: I asked for a booking of taxi to the airport for the next morning, at the reception desk. They were happy to do but I was told that the price is 1500 RUB. I was a bit surprised as it was almost twice the price, I paid for getting there from the airport. Therefore, I asked for confirmation of price and some more details - only then I was told that it is transfer by their ‘hotel service’, by ‘nice and comfy BMW’. I have nothing against BMW, however I hate to overpay so I asked about city taxi (again). It was finally ordered for me but only after warning that ‘probably, I won’t receive any receipt for such service from the driver’. Next morning taxi waited just as ordered (it was quite new and big Ford Mondeo), I got to the airport perfectly on time, the receipt was given without any problems and the price was 550 RUB …
Everything was good except the temperature in the room was very hot and could not be adjusted…. so the staff had to relocate me to a lower floor / room. ………. Food was fine but as I am a vegetarian…there was not much to choose from. Hopefully in the future the restaurant will have a large selection of foods / dishes to choose from.
Friends, Do not believe the ratings of the other hotels in Chelyabinsk, seems to be fake ratings. We finally stayed at Radisson Blu, the room and staff were exceptional. The hotel is modern and fresh, all up to today’s standards. I must say again how wonderful the staff was, they put everything in order and accommodated all our wishes. I can only recommend this hotel, the only real good hotel in Chelyabinsk that meets the international travelers complete needs. Thank you Radisson Blu team Chelyabinsk for all your sincere hospitality.
