Fly to Upington
Located on the bank of the Orange River in South Africa s Northern Cape, Upington is a vibrant city with peaceful water views, lush gardens and avenues lined with date palm trees. It is the hub of the region known as the Green Kalahari. Upington is a great destination for adventurers, history buffs and nature lovers.
Housed in the mission station founded in 1875 by missionary Christiaan Schroder, the Kalahari-Orange Museum chronicles the area s natural and cultural history. The museum is home to the Donkey Statue, which recognizes the contributions that the animal made during the pioneering days of 19th century. The Upington police station is the setting for the Desert Patrol Statue. This artwork, which features a rider in a safari helmet astride a camel, commemorates the Kalahari patrols of the Cape Mounted Police. The region is also famous for its wineries, which offer tours and tastings.
