If you'd like to enjoy stunning beaches and verdant mangrove forests, you may want to fly to Tumbes for your next vacation. The city is located along the shores of the Tumbes River in Peru, and it's just a short drive from the Pacific Ocean. In Tumbes, you can stroll the white, sandy beaches of Punta Sal or head over to Puerto Pizarro and check out the local crocodile breeding center.
If you love architecture, Tumbes makes a great destination for a vacation. You can head down to the Main Plaza, which includes a building that highlights the time when the Spanish conquistadores met the area's natural wealth and its ruler Chilimasa. At the Mother Church of San Nicolas de Tolentino, you ll find a building that was constructed in the 17th century by the area's Augustinian priests.
You can fly to Tumbes from Lima in slightly less than two hours. After landing at the Pedro Canga Rodriguez Airport (TBP), you may want to get a rental car so you have easy access to the attractions in Tumbes and the surrounding area. The Tumbes region is dry, humid and hot throughout the year; low temperatures are in the 70s, and highs are consistently in the upper 90s.
