Fly to Takamatsu
Known as the Gateway to Shikoku, Takamatsu has a colorful feudal history, manicured parks and heritage architecture. Cultural attractions such as the Kagawa Museum chronicle the history of the Sanuki Province. Ritsurin Park, a traditional 470-square-mile Japanese garden dating from the Edo period, is regarded as a national treasure. Takamatsu is also home to Japan s longest shopping center.
When you fly to Takamatsu, you can tour Tamamo Park, the backdrop for the remnants of the 16th-century Takamatsu Castle. In addition to shops and eateries, the Takamatsu Symbol Tower complex includes several observation decks that allow visitors to take in the views of the surrounding landscape. Shikoku Mura is an open-air museum of historical buildings from across the island of Shikoku. It also features a small art gallery with works by Picasso. Nearby, travelers can see Yashima, the site of a legendary battle in Japan and home to the Yashima Temple, the 84th of the Shikoku 88 Temple pilgrimage.
