Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, formerly known as Ophira International Airport, is the biggest airport in the area and the second busiest airport in Egypt. It is located 11 miles to the northeast of the town's resort area. Over 30 airlines fly into this airport, including Air Berlin, EasyJet, EgyptAir and XL Airways France. You can take a taxi or a minibus operated by a private carrier from the airport to the town center, but neither option is regulated. The taxi stand is located next to Terminal 1 and offers 24-hour service. You must haggle to set a price for the trip, and you should always set the price in advance of leaving in the taxi. The driver will try to charge you anywhere from 150 LE to 400 LE. Minibuses also leave from a stop outside of Terminal 1. There are no fixed bus stops, so you must let the driver know when you want to get off. The minibuses leave only when the bus is filled up, and you must also haggle to determine the price for your ride. The minibus can cost 15 LE or more. If you are staying at an area hotel, the best option is to call the hotel to arrange transportation.

Sharm el-Sheikh has a dry, subtropical climate with fairly consistent weather all year long. Daily average temperatures typically fluctuate from 70°F to 82°F, while high temperatures in August can reach 95°F and low temperatures in January can fall to 50°F.
