The peak season in Puerto Rico runs from mid-December to mid-April. At this busy time of year the weather is warm, skies are clear and there’s only a minimal chance of rain. Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is the main gateway to Puerto Rico and sees millions of passengers pass through its terminals every year. The airport is served by a large number of airlines and offers regular direct flights to destinations across the US, the Caribbean and around the world.
The easiest way to continue your journey from the airport to your destination is by taxi or shuttle. Several hotels on the island offer shuttle services from the airport or you can pre-book a journey before you arrive in Puerto Rico. If you’re planning on exploring the island during your stay, car hire may also be a good option.

If you’re travelling from San Juan to another part of the island, you may be able to catch a ferry to your destination. Alternatively, take a taxi, a shuttle or use one of the island’s public buses.
One of the most important attractions in Puerto Rico is Old San Juan itself. One of the oldest cities in the Americas, it was founded way back in 1521 and has been an important commercial hub ever since. Spend at least a day of your trip exploring its shady plazas, open air cafes, lively restaurants and crumbling buildings.
To see a completely different side of Puerto Rico, head inland to the El Yunque National Forest. The only tropical rainforest in the US, it’s the perfect place to get close to nature and learn about the island’s natural habitat.
A free trolley service runs in many areas of San Juan, making it easy to get around town. US passport holders don’t need a visa to travel to Puerto Rico.
