If you want to fully experience the rugged Wyoming beauty, fly to Laramie Regional Airport (LAR) and begin exploring. Only 50 miles from Cheyenne and 130 miles from Denver, Laramie was named one of the best places to retire by Money Magazine in 2011.
Laramie is an outdoorsman's paradise. Skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, biking, camping, rock climbing and hunting are all popular activities there.
If you fly to Laramie in early July, you'll enjoy Laramie Jubilee Days, which is celebrated with live music, food, a street fair, a parade, rodeo events and an assortment of carnival rides.
Laramie has an impressive Geological Museum at the University of Wyoming, featuring a virtual tour of the exhibits of dinosaur fossils found in Wyoming. The campus also has an art museum and a concert hall. While in town you can visit the Wyoming Children's Museum and Nature Center.
The Laramie Plains Museum has an art festival in conjunction with Jubilee Days, high tea from from May through July, a garden gala in the summer and a Holiday Open House in December.
Average highs in the winter are in the 30s and 40s; lows can be as low as the teens. In summer, highs are in the 70s and low 80s and the lows are in the 40s.
