Fly to Kodiak
Home to the large brown bears that share its name, Kodiak Island offers visitors a vast array of opportunities to explore the outdoors and observe wild animals in their natural habitat. While some travelers fly to Kodiak for the salmon fishing or to visit the large United States Coast Guard base, this city is also rich in native Alaskan history.
Kayaking, hiking and bike riding are all popular forms of recreation in the Kodiak area. Opportunities to view wildlife range from guided whale-watching tours to spotting endangered Steller sea lions at St. Herman's Harbor or discovering crab species at the Alaska Division of Fish and Game building. Golf enthusiasts can practice their swing on the Bear Valley Golf Course. You can learn more about the history and culture of Kodiak by visiting the Alutiiq, Baranof and Maritime Museums. Enjoy a unique shopping experience as you browse shops teeming with merchandise reflecting Kodiak's native Alaskan and Russian heritages.
