If you want a mountain adventure look no further than the hip hillside resorts of Jackson Hole in Wyoming, which nestles in the vale of the Teton Mountains south of Yellowstone and north of the Great Plains.
Jackson Hole is a world-famous ski destination and in the summer the spectacular mountains attract nature lovers, fishermen, hikers and rock climbers.

The snows arrive in late fall and the ski season runs from November to April. Jackson Hole is home to three ski resorts, which are among the best in the country. Demand and prices are at their highest from December through March.
The opening of the highway from Yellowstone in mid-May marks the start of the summer season and visitors descend on Jackson Hole to explore Grand Teton National Park.

Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is the biggest in Wyoming but it handles less than a million passengers a year, and many flights are seasonal. The airport offers free Wi-Fi and there is an ATM and a coffee kiosk in the ticket hall. The airport restaurant, with its own library, is through security. It also boasts an impressive collection of local art.
There are four car rental companies at the airport, and others offer a free shuttle to their offices in Jackson. Shuttles into town are available from the airport but should be booked in advance, or you can grab a taxi.
Jackson Hole Airport is the only airport in a national park and has taken steps to reduce its impact on the environment. There are recycling stations and many of the maintenance vehicles are electric.
The nearest alternative airport is Idaho Falls Regional (IDA), a two-hour drive away.

The towns of Jackson Hole are small enough to explore on foot or bicycle. Uber and Lyft operate around Jackson Hole and are an alternative to taxis. A free shuttle bus runs through Jackson and there is a year-round bus service from Jackson to Teton Village.
The Jackson Hole Aerial Tram runs from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. In the winter skiers use it to access the slopes and over the summer it operates for sightseers and hikers.
The scenery of Jackson Hole is spectacular, and what better way to experience the wonders of the Teton mountains than from the air? Paragliding has become a popular activity in Jackson Hole and there are tandem flights from the top of Rendezvous Mountain all year round.
The National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson should not be missed. It features stunning pictures, paintings and sculptures of animals from around the world. Some of the exhibits date back thousands of years.

During the summer there are lots of free events in Jackson Hole, including music concerts and art fairs in Teton Village and Jackson.
Snow lovers head to Jackson when the powder is deep and the slopes are open for business. Ski season typically runs from Thanksgiving into April; however, during high-precipitation years, the resort can remain open even longer. Hotel and lift-ticket prices are the most expensive during the height of ski season, which lasts from December through March. November and April are slightly lower in cost.
While chilly, spring is perfect for nature lovers, as the animals re-emerge after a long winter, and many have newborn babies in tow.
For those wishing to enjoy Mother Nature during her warmer months, most of the national parks begin welcoming guests for the summer season in May. However, the snow can linger on the mountains through the end of June—sometimes even later—so if you want guaranteed sun and nice weather, your best bet is to plan a trip for late July or August.
Fall months are quiet, as many of the outdoor companies shut down for the shoulder season. Visiting during this time can be a gamble: The snow might arrive early, but more than likely the landscape will be a tapestry of rich colors illuminated by the pleasant afternoons.
