Fort Leonard Wood, located about 2 hours southwest of St. Louis in the Ozark Mountains, is a sprawling Army base that supports thousands of new recruits during their journey through basic training. The base is also home to several training schools such as the Engineer School, the Military Police School and the Non-commissioned Officers Academy.
If you are traveling to Fort Leonard Wood, you will need a photo ID to get in the base. Once inside, you will find a great opportunity to learn about the history of the base and the Army. The Mahaffey Museum Complex consists of three separate museums, the Engineer Museum, the Military Police Corps Museum and the Chemical Corps Museum. There are also a lot of outdoor activities available, such as Miller Cave & Trail, Piney Valley Golf Course, and the Sandstone Spring Trail. If you come during colder months, indoor activities such as the Strike Zone Bowling Alley are available as well.
You can fly to Fort Leonard Wood directly via Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport (TBN), which is located on the base. You must contact the airport for ticket and flight information.
