Transportation from the Bogota Airport

When you fly into Bogota, you will land at the El Dorado International Airport, which is located 9 miles outside of the city on Calle 26. The easiest way to get into the city is by taxi. To ensure that you receive a fair price, head for the taxi stand outside of the terminal and give the attendant your destination address. If you do not speak Spanish, write the address out in advance. The attendant will give you a ticket with the correct price, which you can hand to the taxi driver. Taxi fares vary by zone, but the average fare to the tourist district of La Candelaria is 20,000 pesos. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes.

Bogota has played an important part in Colombia's turbulent history, and visitors often come to learn about the country's past. If you want to learn about the fall of Pablo Escobar and the history of drug cartels in Colombia, head for the Police Museum. Many travelers feel comfortable in the young, artistic district of La Candelaria, where the brightly colored buildings and artisan shops offer hours of entertainment. Other popular attractions in Bogota include the Gold Musuem, the Botero Museum and Mount Monserrate. The city's weather is remarkably consistent year round, and temperatures average 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Seasons are marked by changes in the city's precipitation levels. From October to December and March to May, Bogota experiences up to an inch of rain. No matter what time of year you visit, it is a good idea to pack an umbrella or a rain jacket.
