Near the Aomori Museum of Art, which features unparalleled contemporary art displays, lies the Sannai Maruyama Archaeological Site. This ancient village is very well preserved, and dates from the Jormon period of Japan, which lasted from 13,000 B.C. to 300 B.C.
Most visitors who fly to Aomori arrive at the Aomori Airport (AOJ). There are a variety of transportation options to reach Aomori after arriving, including taxis, rental cars, shuttles and the efficient Japan Rail bus. If you wish to venture beyond Aomori, a good system of public buses and trains will connect you to nearby cities. Here, you can expect average highs in January to reach around 56 degrees F, and, in July, around 98 degrees F. The annual Nebuta Matsuri summer festival is held each August 2nd through 7th and features costumed parades attended by thousands of people.
