1night stay . Only had breakfasr but evening meal was available Good choices for continental breakfast. The usual freash fruit, breads and pastries , cold meat and cheese and coffee. The room was clean, comfortable and a reasonable size for a couple of nights stay. Staff friendly and helpful giving advice on parking in the town.
I do not understand the previous reviewer saying that the hotel was only one story The hotel looks like a typical Campanile with a single story reception and dining block with a 3 story block of rooms. Our room was clean and the en-suite was fine. I was surprised that there was only a small bedside table on one side of the bed and nothing on the other. We have occasionally eaten at a Campanile even when we were not staying at one but the menu at this hotel seemed more limited than some. The salad bar appeared just a little sparse compared with other Campaniles but that may be a sign of the times as it is a year or so since we last stayed at one. The menu seemed rather limited and we took what to us appeared to be a safe option by choosing a burger forestiere. This turned out to be a fairly thick burger with a small layer of chopped mushrooms. Both meat and mushrooms were almost stone cold. The burger was accompanied by a basket of (hot) chips but no other trimmings. We noticed that someone at an adjoining sent her food back but did not eat it all after it was returned. The meal cost 41.30 euros for two with the salad buffet, the burgers and a half liter of house wine. The bed was fine but we were woken at 3.30 by the noise of a chair being scraped across the floor. We were surprised at how loud this was, bearing in mind that we were on the top floor. We were kept awake for the rest of the night with the noise of more chair movements, conversation, probably on the radio, and coughing. The traffic noise did not help either as the hotel rooms are very close to a main road. We were surprised at how much one could hear as I thought that all Campaniles would have similar construction. In our case we would have been able to make out words if our French had been better. We had a buffet breakfast which was reasonable but a shade limited compared with Campanile in the past. This cost 9.90 euros each. The dining room was fine but lacked the rustic charm that some Campaniles provide and the lounge area was small with only 2 easy chairs.
Quite difficult to see from the road as the hotel is one storey building, the rooms are not adjoining to the reception and eating area. Rooms very basic but adequate for a short stay. Bathroom was modern clean and tidy. We didn't eat at the hotel so can not comment on the quality. Basic accommodation which is reflected in the price, okay for a one nights stay en route.
Stayed her for two nights to break up a drive down to Spain. The standard of the accommodation was excellent, the staff where very friendly, the restaurant attached served great food. The bed was very comfortable, the room had air conditioning, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There is no need to drive as you are only a few hundred meters from a bus stop that takes you right to the center of La Rochelle for 1.30 euros. We would definitely stay here again.
Ideal travelers hotel. As to be expected with a budget hotel, the rooms are compact and, in this case, a little tired, but were very clean and tidy. The walls and ceilings seemed thin, but it was not noisy enough to hinder sleep and the beds were comfortable. Great location close to La Rochelle, but far enough out if you want more peace. Easy to reach by car from the motorway, with plenty of free parking around the hotel, but I had programmed its location into a Sat Nav, so no difficulty finding it. When it comes to food, this Campanile doesn’t think it’s a budget hotel. We found both the dinner and breakfast excellent. Great staff, very helpful and enthusiastic. When I next visit La Rochelle for a night or two, I’ll use this Campanile. This provided us with good value for money.
We stayed at the Campanile in Puilboreau in early August, right at the height of the La Rochelle season. For that reason alone, it was worth staying out of town, and the price was great (we got a 3 for 2 deal as well on the Campanile website, so overall it cost about 125 quid for 3 nights!). The hotel is about 10 mins drive away from La Rochelle, and even though you don't need a car, it's worth getting one. If you don't have one, you can get buses very easily to and from the hotel to La Rochelle. Parking is free. It's in the middle of nowheresville, but if you don't mind a basic, clean and boxy hotel room that you only really sleep in, then it's perfect....away from the town but easy to reach. We didn't have breakfast, figuring the French breakfast in a cafe in the town would be infinitely preferable to a standard hotel one, but it was served in a pleasant little room with French windows and nice staff. Overall, it is what it is....and the cockroaches previously mentioned are actually field beetles...totally harmless, but you're right next to huge fields and in the summer they get blown in on the La Rochelle wind so don't panic!
We flew into LaRochelle at 11pm so we decided to book something cheap to stay over before reaching our final destination the next day. The first problem we had was that the hotel isnt sign-posted very well. During the day, you would be able to see the tiny signs but at night, you just dont have a hope. Make sure you get clear directions as there is none in reception after 11pm. At check-in, we were advised that a twin room had been allocated to us (despite the fact we booked for a double room). I was told to just "push the beds together" (?!). The quality of the beds was so poor that they kept sliding on the ground leaving a gap between the two beds. Finally, just as we were about to turn the lights off, we spotted a dead cockroach. I really didnt have high expectations for the place, but was truly disapointed.
