Good location to explore the old town and we found the staff very friendly and eager to help with local information. On the down side, for the price range the hotel sits in, we found the place rather tired and the bed and bedding was not the best we have enjoyed. We stayed on a sunday night ... the parking was free outside ... I would imagine pre booking a garage space would be essential other times.

This very colorful hotel with an eccentric interior has nice small rooms and the brekfast is good. The location is perfect with shops, bars, restaurants and cafés next door. Not so easy to park here, but the stuff will help you out. They speak good english and are very helpful.

The location of this hotel is right in the middle of the town, on a very typical square. If you are facing the square you will enjoy at night time the life of the town full of bars and restaurants around. The service is excellent. The rooms are not the most functional and comfortable you can find in Angouleme, but they kept some charm. So if you look to be back on time and not looking for high speed internet connection or other new gadgets of our century, this hotel will be good for you.

Stayed for 4 nights for a friends wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The beds were comfortable, the water was hot. The decor is, on first impression, strange. But we got used to it. If they had a coffee terrace and an evening restaurant I wouldn't have left the building at all. Only minus point would be that the walls were quite thin so we could hear the floorboards creaking in the room behind us. Otherwise, I'm glad we found it.

The hotel is in the centre of the village with a lovely square directly opposite. It was a very hot day so lovely to sit there with a drink in shade. The hotel is charming and the hosts were friendly. Unfortunately we didn't sleep very well due to the heat and not having any air conditioning. The person next door was walking around their room constantly, which had very squeaky floorboards whilst also speaking on phone loudly. Nothing the hotel could have done about that of course, but due to the age of the building it lacks soundproofing. The breakfast was good.

The hotel can be found in the middle of Angouleme, close to around 40 bars, cafes and restaurants. The hotel itself is quirky and colourful, the staff are friendly and speak good English and where more than willing to help with directions we needed with the area. One tip I will give if you have a car make sure you book a parking space at €7 a night as there is in street parking but you need to pay for this. The car park is a bit tricky to use as you have to reserve into the garge. Breakfast was an extra cost and if you are feeling lazy a great option, however a short walk will find you loads of local cafes and bakeries. The only downside I will say is there was a lack of plug points in the room we had, none near any mirrors making hair styling hard especially as we also has no hairdryer, but other rooms had.

Just spent 4 days here. Great location, clean hotel. Keep in mind hotel is old, but they have done a good job with the updates. No air conditioning, ask for a fan. Great restaurants in area. The wine, any one is excellent

This is a characterful and brilliantly located hotel for a very reasonable price. We found a parking spot right outside the hotel but maybe we were lucky as Angouleme has an abundance of would be parkers compared to actual parking spaces. I think that the hotel itself has some parking spaces but these are probably best booked in advance. The receptionists on check-in and check out were friendly, efficient and helpful. The hotel is painted in extraordinary colours - sunglasses inside might become necessary after a while. The room was clean, reasonably equipped and airy, if not especially spacious. Overall, we felt that the hotel is great value and would certainly stay there again. Thank you, Hotel du Palais !

Arrived on a wet, dull day in a rather scruffy looking city. Sat nav guided us to hotel and we were pleased to see door to parking. Lady who met us there said there was no space but when she our confirmation she guided us in. Had to leave keys at desk, no problem. Entrance to hotel colourful and not what I expected. Lift to room and amazement to enter a very red room with some bare stone walls. Bedding and furniture covered in red fabric. My heart sank but then I looked at the view from the window over the square, saw kettle and tea, sat on comfortable clean bed and decided I loved the hotel! Good bathroom, toilet in cupboard and everything spotlessly clean. Not easy in such an old building. We ate at Chez Paul almost next door, the food and services were excellent. Breakfast next morning could not be faulted. Terrific array of homemade jams ! Hope one day we will return to this hotel in better weather. It is central, clean and full of character.

I've stayed hear numerous times for 43 or 4 nights at a time, it's probably the best value vs service and location in town! The staff are really friendly and are fluent in English. Would definitely reccomend.
