Taj Chandigarh5.0 out of 5.0

Taj was a mixed bag for us... What we loved and what we didn't: - People at the Front-Desk: Attention to detail, pleasant and ready to help at a moment's notice - Service (Dera Restaurant): Always at hand to assist or bring over a cup of coffee sometimes without having to ask (we were there for a few days so they knew what we preferred); fully engaged in providing a rich customer experience. All the positives happened when the supervisor was around. One day she wasn't around, I guess she had the day off, and the place could have been a Dhaba down the street... no one engaged with us; staff was more interested in talking amongst themselves; had to wait forever to get a cup of coffee; Very disappointing that staff seems to be engaged only on days the supervisor is present. - Buffet (Dera Restaurant): Meh. James Hotel, next door, has a better breakfast. - Room: Clean, reasonable, functional. - House cleaning including Laundry service: Atrocious... Towel in the bathtub were reused (it was folded and was wet, most likely from the previous day; had two Masala teas but the following day, Masala tea packets were not replenished; wash cloth was available on the 1st day and never to be seen again; they wouldn't bring up the Laundry unless I called, makes no sense because they enter the room at least twice to clean the room and for turn-down service; a Do Not Disturb sign was not provided so expect to be disturbed; Could add more but running out of space...
Everything was as it was promised. This is not the first time I stayed here and I keep returning because it is an excellent "home away from home".
The finest hotel we encountered in India and a welcome relief after a long day of travel. We were visiting family in Chandigarh so did not spend as much time at the hotel as we could have. Outstanding place.
The hotel rooms were spacious. The cleanliness was good, but not great. Lightly colored furnishings were slightly worn. Furnishings could have had a more modern or sleek look. The staff was good, but for whatever reason they often have to be reminded two or three times to do something correctly. Bathroom was nicely clean. Hotel breakfast was terrific and the business center, restaurants, shops, and gym were excellent. Overall, an OASIS in the middle of Chandigarh. We'll stay here, until the J.W. Marriot opens up in Chandigarh about 3/11!
