In winter, I like to be outdoors. My sisters, not so much. So we decided on a spa weekend. This place was the perfect compromise. We stayed at The Pointe, which is down the hill from the spa. Lovely and clean, they had super staff who could not be more helpful and I will totally be going back there. But the spa .... just wonderful. I had a massage and facial and both were terrific. The whole thing is in a kind of big house, where you lounge on couches and sip water while you await your treatments. Quiet and peaceful. There’s a small gym which was perfect for a little Sunday morning sweat, and a dry sauna, also nice. Outside the spa, there is a heated walkway to get to pool and hot tub. If you’re not doing spa treatments, you can access for a small fee. We soaked and swam and watched the snow fall and, really, just relaxed and talked and unwound. It was actually hard to leave and I’m already thinking ahead to my next visit.
I was sure that I booked a room with a bathtub, but was checked in to a room with a shower. I dialed “0” for front desk immediately to ask if we could upgrade for an extra pay to which I got a quick response that there was nothing available. Next morning, we came down for continental breakfast around 8:30 AM and were told that it would cost us $11 or so per person, and if we want scrambled eggs, we would need to go to the Pointe. I said that we are fine with continental breakfast and would like to stay where we are. However, the staff member tried to convince us to go down the other building and have breakfast there. We stayed where we were and when we came to the table with pastries, everything was tightly wrapped in plastic, and I asked if is was for guests, and a staff member said "yes, please help yourself". Breakfast staff checked on us many times to see if are done yet and brought us the bill before we even finished our breakfast. To my experience, in the hotels which promote themselves as 4+ stars, the staff normally checks if you need more coffee or else, but we served ourselves starting from unwrapping breakfast dishes and finishing with paying for this kind of continental breakfast. No available rooms, poor customer service made us to decide to leave the hotel 1 night earlier. To my surprise, front desk person said that we should check out at the Pointe. We drove down to the Pointe where a front desk person said that there are options available for us to stay, and that she could had given us a room with a bathtub. I said that I had made my decision to leave and that I should had been informed about the options when I called and asked for the upgrade the moment I checked in. Two days after I called AmEx Travel and asked to refund me 1 night stay that had not use, but the hotel denied the refund referring to that they offered me options, and I did not take them. I asked to speak to a manager who was not there, and I was transferred to another person whom I told everything described herein hoping to get at least her understanding of why I decided to leave the hotel. Instead of being listened, I was attacked and blamed for wanting a better service. She said that there is no people at the castle to offer me options, and that I could had helped myself at the breakfast room…. And that that she was there at the desk what I was checking out and that she heard everything and said “Do you want to say that that my colleague is lying??” I never said that somebody lied and was extremely polite over the phone. Nobody ever said "sorry" for poor service or refunded money. Other than the above described, the hotel is nice and clean.
You have to stay in the older castle, not the new condos. It is an old stone castle. The rooms are huge, some have Jacuzzi tubs, some large showers. We have stayed here three times and plan on going back. It is private, there is a heated outdoor pool and hot tub all year round. The dining rooms are elegant, food very good. Beautifully decorated everywhere and well equipped (refrigerator, coffee maker, iron, hair dryer, soaps, shampoos, lots of pillows) I even had a room with a cedar fur closet once!
My husband and I were looking forward to a weekend away at Castle Hill. We booked using credit card points. Initially we thought we would be able to stay 3 nights, but as luck would have it he had to work Monday. We called to change our reservation to two nights, and despite it not ever being stated explicitly that there was a three night minimum, they wouldn't let us cancel the third night. Of course this is a fair policy when stated ahead of time or even in the confirmation text. When I called to speak to the hotel to get this figured out I was treated with such disrespect. It wasn't about their policy it was about their attitude and the woman raising her voice on the phone when I was asking questions. If you are looking for an unethical hotel with sleazy practices that makes up policies not ever told to customers ahead of time, with nasty and rude reservationists...THIS IS THE HOTEL FOR YOU!
My wife and I were treated to a wonderful experience for out 50th anniversary. The accommodations were to noch and the dining experience was a 12 out of 10. Truly a top notch outfit. Best regards, Daniel B. Kirkwood
Very private. Must stay in the big house. It is awesome. The rooms are big. The bathroom is big. The bed is big and full of pillows. This is a luxury private quiet place to enjoy and meditate. You must give it a try.
We were planning a getaway to the Castle for over a year and were finally able to get there. It was well worth the wait. Elegant and luxurious! Snow storm hit during our stay which added to the beautiful views. Rooms were nice and clean. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Definitely enjoyed the spa.
Stayed for a weekend at the Castle. My wife and I were looking for New England charm - and got it. Definitely very stately. The Spa was great. My wife had a facial and I had a massage. Both a bit pricey, but very good. The hit was going for a nighttime swim in the heated pool and then sitting in the hot tub. This was just fantastic and made every ache in my body disappear - if only temporarily. What a terrific experience. After the swim, we went for dinner, which was exquisite in every sense of the word. The dining room was majestic in dark would paneling and a blazing fireplace. The food was nothing less than fantastic- haute cuisine in large portions. We had a price fix dinner, and were completely stuffed after just the appetizers and soup. The waitress said the portions are large and that people often share. We didn’t believe her - but should have. We would up each taking more than half our entrees back home. The service was impeccable, and the presentation of the food was equally impressive. That everything was delicious just rounded out a most epicurean experience. The downside of our stay, and weakest point of the Castle, was truly a disappointment and, otherwise out of place with the ambience. The bathroom was horrible! It did have an extremely pleasant jacuzzi but, beyond that, it was a most unpleasant site. The toilet, originally porcelain, was black from stain. And the bath wall was severely cracked and just as discolored. It was tough to tell if this was mold or simply wear and tear. Whatever, it was disgusting. Remarkably, other diners also commented similar feelings about their rooms. So, it seems this is a common experience. This is too bad, as an otherwise regal stay was spoiled by a royal pit. I write this to signal the owners it would be best to invest in a few new $200 toilets and some re-tiling. This small change would make all guests feel like kings not paupers.
I decided to treat myself to a New England getaway. I booked a room in the meticulously maintained mansion. The room was cozy and elegant. Spent some time on the grounds, taking in and photographing the georgous gardens with mountains in the background. Lovely and romantic!
My husband and I just returned from a weekend at the Castle!! We have traveled extensively throughout our lives. We always return to our second home . I don't know where to begin. The staff welcome us as if we were family. We have never experienced such a kind, professional , and courteous staff and management. We adore the history of the castle and it's magical setting. Where do I begin describing the dinners we have experienced ? Perfection from the chef and all of the staff. We are very fond of Dianne, our server. I adore her friendliness and love of life! I will not reveal our favorite room. That's our secret. We were actually sad to depart for home. We are a professional couple who enjoy our time together. I want to thank Andy and your entire team for such a great visit once again. Please visit and sleep on the marshmallow pillows!! This place is amazing !! Go and discover our second home!! We hope to visit before the snow falls. There is so much to do and explore in the area.Thank you again, Andy , Dianne, Paula , Alphonse, Kierstan and the entire staff for being who you are!!!
