One of the loveliest hotel I have visited. Everything was perfect- the location with the view, the service, the food. The room is Good equipped and new. The spa area is a must as well. Absolutely worth visiting!
My partner and I opted for the Christmas package staying four nights. The hotel did not disappoint and staff impressed literally from the very first moment we arrived in Pörtschach when the Hotel's minibus driver took the trouble to come on to the platform to meet us because Pörtschach station is not user-friendly and there are a lot of steps to negotiate with your luggage. When we left the hotel arranged for us to be taken to Velden - as our train did not stop at Pörtsach - and Velden has better access. Our room on the sixth floor was splendid with spectacular views and good facilities. We are not really TV people but I was slightly disturbed to find plenty of Kremlin propaganda channels (Russia Today in several languages) but no BBC World! But everything else about the room was fine - except maybe for the slightly odd bed which had two separate mattresses at different heights! The service in the lounge area and the dining room is very good. It is a teaching hotel and standards are very high. Our usual waiter, Tamas, seemed able to predict our needs, brought the courses at just the right time and was quick to see if we needed to order more drinks. He and others supervised a small team of students who were very impressive. The staff generally seem impeccably trained. Of course the Teaching Hotel aspect can produce some odd effects. We found the Christmas Eve special menu seemed as if each course had been designed by a different person and taken together they were overwhelming with dozens of different ingredients - very good quality but on some occasions "more is less" and someone needs to look holistically at the whole menu. But these are observations rather than complaints. There is sufficient variety to be able to choose to eat more simply when you want. The buffet is exceptionally good and everything is top quality. Breakfast is the same - superb buffet - with eggs cooked to order. I was not a fan of the breakfast coffee but found it easy to order an Espresso and the next day the waiter knew I wanted an espresso and then a cup of tea! They take such eccentricity in their stride! The special boat trip was cramped and not very comfortable to be honest. We would probably give that a miss next time. The complimentary tea and cakes were of a good standard and they even provided English scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream, though not the cutlery to apply it. When we asked for knives we were given one between us and clearly no one knew how to eat a scone! But then this must be the only hotel in Austria where you would have the chance! Retiring to the lounge area after dinner was always very pleasant and I enjoyed the Vogelbeer schnaps. The pianist is very able but he seemed focused on transatlantic "evergreens" and coming from Vienna we missed Austrian operetta, Wienerlieder and so on. But I guess other guests do not share my taste and we did get a bit of Lehar and Kálmán now and again - and The Third Man rather too often for comfort! Overall, exceptional - very good value for money - great service - lovely staff - and very good food. Just as good at Christmas as in summer - and we even had sunny weather!
Nice location and good breakfast. We made a reservation and paid for the full lake room view but we got a part lake view . The Beach area could be more organized. The best part of the beach was reserved for regular guests and we were told we are not allowed to take a seat at that part because those guests are coming each year ! You will get a table at first day and everyday for breakfast and dinner you should always seat there !
Good staff, great food, free bikes to use. Not for singels, but great for families and retired couples. 300 yards to train station and main street with other restaurasnts. They offer free shuttle service to station. We had a problem with the AC not working and they moved us to a two room suite, since they had no other single rooms.
- The hotel lobby and common area are still quite old fashion, staff are not always very friendly or quick. - Free parking space. - Complimentary water, bathrobe, safe inside the room. - Beach towel in bag prepared in the bathroom. - The new rooms with balcony facing the lake are very nice, rooms on first floor have bigger balcony, but higher floor ones have better view.
We stayed here with three generations and had a lovely time despite the weather (it rained for three days). The hotel has wonderful amenities (pool, saunas, beach, stand up paddles, bikes...) all included. The service is extraordinary and the food choices are diverse and excellent. We stayed in renovated rooms - very comfortable. The non renovated rooms have that 60s charm that some may like. The hotel was very clean. Would highly recommend.
Our second visit here, and it has quickly become our favorite hotel. The hotel lies in a excellent position, but the real secret is the staff who are excellent. For those who need cool for sleeping the air conditioning is wonderful. The grassy beach is a relaxing haven during a hot day. Today's temperature was 30c, the water was 25c, refreshing but not cold. The beach bar serves lovely food and drinks. My observation is this is a cruise venue for those who do not like cruises. There is so much to do in this part of Austria in the summer. I challenge anyone to say what they like doing and then try to see if they can do it here. It helps to have a car here, but you can manage without. We will be back as long as we can make it for a relaxing holiday every year.
I spent two nights here for a business seminar and I was very satisfied of both the room and the service. I had a fully renovated room on the 4th floor with a stunning view over the lake. The breakfast choice was ok, the service level very good. The hotel was pretty full but I never felt that the service level was badly affected by this, which is the clear sign of a good organisation. I was here also 4 years ago, in a non renovated room facing on the opposite site and I can definitely recommend to book a renovated room on the lake side.
Food - Excellent buffets with a generally very fresh and varied selection. A la carte menu changes regularly and the waiting staff are usually well versed by the kitchen on the details. Spa - the newest party of the hotel / most recently refurbished. The Finnish sauna is large and I always found it at >80C, nice selection of cold showers plus the pool. Th small gym adjoining is also quite well kitted out. Rooms - views onto the lake are great at dawn and dusk, and the balconies are large on thefront of the building. Rear facing rooms are pretty much as nice inside but looking out across the park is not as opulent. Hallways - in need of refurb. Rear facing stairway windows, hallway floors and lifts all need replacing to bring into line.
I thought I was sent here by mistake. It was a very nice hotel and although a little run down, very clean. There is a restaurant and lobby bar complete with a pianist. I didn't take advantage of the spa facilities but, they are there. I found the service was pleasant and efficient. The internet was incredible.
