Set in the redwoods of Cazadero near Austin Creek, this mid-century modern compound embraces stylish amenities like a hot tub, remodeled kitchen, outdoor shower, firepit and entertainment technology. Get away from it all in a two bedroom main house and separate private suite.

Outside is divine! The main deck sports a dining table for morning mimosas and alfresco meals, propane BBQ, large hammock (that gets a perfect amount of sunshine in the afternoon), plenty of welcoming seating and views up the hillside and into the redwood trees. It's the perfect gathering place between the main house and the private suite. Around the corner and completely private, a 6 person hot tub awaits. Just steps away is a private outdoor shower, hooks for towels and gate to the lower yard and fully fenced dog run.

In the main house the freshly remodeled kitchen has all new stainless steel appliances including dishwasher, a multi-tiered island and is open to the dining area and comfortable living room. The kitchen is well-appointed with quality cookware and colorful Fiestaware. This open floorplan is ideal for group cooking and congregating. No one is left out of the fun! Spread out in the living room to watch TV or stream music through the new flat screen Roku TV. Retreat to your cozy bedroom with a memory foam king bed and one with a queen bed. Each bedroom has a TV and sliding glass doors to the deck and hot tub. Get ready in the stylish main bathroom with heated floors, tiled shower/tub combo and marble counter top.

Cross the multi-level deck to the charming private suite with queen bed, separate comfortable seating area with TV and DVD player, full bathroom with heated floors and kitchenette with washer and dryer. This space is equally inviting when sun streams through the windows or rain patters on the roof. Make coffee in the kitchenette or grab a snack from the mini fridge before joining everyone in the main house for breakfast.

Native ferns, rhododendrons and thimbleberries thrive under the redwood trees with Japanese maples, climbing roses and camellias. Families, friends, dog owners and everyone else will love staying at this peaceful retreat in the woods - that's just a short drive to world class restaurants and wineries. Hiking in Armstrong Redwoods State Park or along the Sonoma Coast is minutes away.

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Modern Zen is 6. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Parking: On-site parking is available for 3 vehicles. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: First Bedroom: King Bed, Second Bedroom: Queen Bed, Private Suite: Queen Bed.

Heat Source: The main house has central heat and wood burning fire place. The private suite has a gas fireplace.

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Dog Run: A large dog run (approx. 1,500 square feet) with entrances through the deck off the hot tub and a gate at the bottom of the driveway has 4 foot tall fencing. The area is a combination of flat and hilly and may not be suitable for very small dogs.

My family absolutely loved your home and my dog also loved the dog run! We especially loved being surrounded by all the amazing greenery, ferns and camelia trees were so beautiful. We absolutely loved this property inside and out. This peaceful, well appointed home had everything we wanted for a quick getaway. It was cold and rainy the whole trip (typical February weather) but nothing hot tubbing with a morning coffee or adult beverage couldn’t cure. Perfect two-home setting

This was the perfect set up for a trip with two small families. Temps were nice and cool in the June heat with the shade. Location is tucked Seat in nature with just 15 min drive east/west to get to Guernville/Jenner. Perfect family vacation.

Beautiful Place

The property was clean and nicely updated. The kitchen and bath were both well appointed. The property situated in a forest with lovely trees and plants surrounding the outdoor space. We were very comfortable and felt quite at home. The area itself was a bit of a disappointment because we had small children with us. The river beaches were rocky and the town of Guernville was pretty torn up with road work which made if difficult with children.

Relaxing family break in the redwoods

We really enjoyed our weekend away, two small families, sharing the house and studio across the deck. Modern Zen is set back from the road and consequently really quiet and feels super secluded. The kitchen was well set up with everything we needed for a family meal. Some really thoughtful touches and little luxuries like a heated bathroom floor! For dog owners, the dog run is secure and a real boon — but be aware that it is on fairly steep, uneven ground at the back of the property, and be alert for ticks (it’s the woods, you know!)

Birthday Perfection

This property was perfect for celebrating my Wife's birthday with our adult children and grandchild. Everything is as advertised with no negative surprises. The property is well situated and private among beautiful redwoods in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to all that the Russian River area has to offer. The house and suite are thoughtfully and artfully decorated. The kitchen is well appointed. I cooked several process laden meals for my family without much frustration of not being in my own kitchen. There are a few thoughtful touches, like toys and dishes for your dog that make a difference. The seperate Suite added a perfect level of extra privacy for our oldest daughter, husband and one year old daughter. My wife and I did not feel like we sacrificed anything by giving them the suite and taking the king size bed in the main house with a slider door facing the hot tub. We would stay here again.

Peaceful retreat that felt like the middle of nowhere but was 20 minutes from everything. Clean and modern but with a mature feel. Every updated appliance and top notch brand was available in the kitchen. Easy Internet. We loved it! My 10 year old granddaughter wrote out a thank you note on a papper towel and left it for you. Perfect home for exploring San Francisco and Sonoma county.

The house is clean, spacious, and fully equipped. I did a lot of cooking and enjoyed it quite a bit. The hot tub is clean and as fun as you would expect, but the real outdoor treat is the shower. Its not just an outdoor shower, its a GOOD outdoor shower. Its HOT, private, and built into the deck right next to the hot tub with access through sliding doors to both rooms in the main house. The second "house" is really cool for having a separate space for kids or someone who just wants to get away from everyone for a bit. The courtyard deck area is really cool for eating or just hanging out in the forest. The internet is really good and the TV setup is great. There is even a wood burning fireplace which I love. What makes it all even better is the area you are staying in. Safeway in Guerneville is fully stocked and only about 10 minutes way. In fact I kid you not I could spend an entire week exploring amazing beaches, forests, roads, and towns all within 20 minutes of the house. This place is fantastic.

Loved our stay here - nestled in the redwoods away from the hoards of travelers in more populated areas. Close enough to do a full day wine tour in the Alexander or Sonoma Valley, a Russian River swim and super close to the beautiful Sonoma coast for hikes or trip to Bodega Bay. We loved coming back to relax in the hot tub or stare up at the stars on the hammock. Loved the place - it’s exactly as pictured and would stay again!

Secluded Getaway

We greatly enjoyed our time at Modern Zen. We really felt away from it all on the deck under the redwoods. We cook a lot and found the kitchen well-stocked with everything we needed. Even a crock pot! The separate apartment was perfect for our college student so she could retreat when she had had enough family time. The only downside was that we had our senior dog with us and didn't realize there were steps into the house and steps down to the dog run. Highly recommend this space for a relaxing trip in nature.
