Hotel Manganelli Palace3.0 out of 5.0

This was one of the more expensive hotels we stayed at during our Sicily break, and we weren’t too impressed. Coming out of the lift, we walked into what felt like a building site as there were renovations still clearly on going. Check in was slow and seemed to involve a lot more admin than it should. (we arrived at 8.30pm and just wanted to get out to dinner). The hotel felt like a labyrinth, having to go down another 1 floor in another lift to our room (meaning we had to take 2 different lifts to get out of the building). The breakfast was okay, nothing particularly great and was staffed by just one seemingly overworked lady who was rushing around dealing with coffee orders for a number of tables. There were also not enough tables at breakfast, and so we sat down at a table that hadn’t been fully cleared from the previous guests. The hotel itself was fine, quiet and clean and the staff were friendly enough, it just didn’t seem worth the price and could definitely do with some improvements to the initial impressions and efficiency if it wants to be worth the price.
The hotel is a mixture of experiences. Firstly, the hotel is in a great location close to the main shopping street and historical buildings like the cathedral and the university and fish market. First impressions of the hotel are not favourable because the access is down a side street. The hotel is on the fourth floor and accessed by narrow winding stairs or a very old lift which takes 2 people. After a while the lift becomes a nice feature and adds to the charm of the hotel. Secure parking is in a courtyard outside but the staff have to continually move cars around as there are only 6 spaces for the hotel. On arrival the staff were very friendly and very helpful, the public areas are newly renovated and very pleasant. The breakfast area is also very modern and the roof terrace is a wonderful place to sit in the sun. We had breakfast al fresco and it was wonderful. The room was very large with a big bed and a good bathroom with a very effective shower, however because of the age of the hotel and the Palace theme everything is dated. The ceilings have wonderful paintings and our room looked out onto the street and it was enjoyable to watch life passing by below. Unfortunately the corridor carpet to the rooms was very dirty and this gave a bad first impression of the hotel. The bed was comfortable and we would have been happy to stay longer if we had too.
Dingy, drab bedrooms and inattentive breakfast staff. Reception staff controlled front door access so when not at the desk we could not exit the building. Good location with plenty of restaurants nesrby for dinner. Extremely noisy music nearby on a weekend night. It went until 2am making it very hard to sleep. We wouldn't recommend this hotel.
We stayed 2 nights at the Manganelli Palace Hotel. The room we had was very old fashioned with a very small bed for 2 people. We asked for another room with a bigger bed, but nothing was available. People at reception are not very friendly, however the girls serving breakfast and dinner made up for it. Breakfast is ok, nothing special but the small dinner they prepare for Euro 9 is very good and can be recommended. The hotel is on the 3rd and 4th floors of an old building. You reach these floor with an old fashioned lift which fits max 2 people in - quite an experience. Next time we visit Catania we will look for a better hotel.
Well located hotel being in the city centre. Tourist sites, restaurants, etc within walking distance. Wonderful staff. Typical continental breakfast on open air rooftop. Spacious, clean and tidy bedroom with a/c. Good size bathroom.
We stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in the perfect location in the heart of the city. The roof terrace is a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and sip cocktails on an evening. Hotel rooms are clean, tidy and spacious. Would stay here again.
We found this hotel to be clean and tidy, and the rooms to be quite spacious. Our room had a bar fridge and air con, which is a must for us. The hotel is in a convenient part of town, easy to return to during the day as it's located a few blocks from the main square. The only negative, the reception wanted our key every time we left the hotel, which was an inconvenience having to line up and request our key each time upon return.
This hotel has almost everything we needed. The good: Nice rooms, friendly staff, called a taxi for us, has a rooftop aperitivo, in the center. The bad: Our wifi did not work even after calling the front desk a few times and them restarting the box. Also, the hotel is on the 4th floor so if you have bags, do not expect anyone to be there to help you. It was particularly annoying bc we had a rental car and had to stop traffic to unload the car and get all the bags inside the building before I could drive away and park.
Great option close to transportation and beaches and all the tourist sites in Catania. Very close to port if coming in from Naples. Rooms were clean and staff friendly! Breakfast was great and patio seating was a great way to start the day. If come back would not hesitate to stay here.
We stayed here twice recently whilst visiting Catania, it is centrally located and under a 5 minute walk to the Duomo and Fish market area. The hotel is on the 4th floor and accessible by lift, the rooms are large, in both cases we had a small Juliette balcony overlooking the street however, despite this there were no issues with noise. There is AC and ensuite in all the rooms we tried and amply furniture such as tables, chairs and sofas in the rooms. The reception staff are very accommodating, the best thing about the hotel is the roof terrace where they serve an apperitivo for 3 hours from 6 to 9 and it is very pleasant to be away from the heat of the streets and looking over the roof tops. Breakfast was pleasant, standard continental type, there was working wifi. I would recommend it and stay there again.
