Villa with Beautiful Views
The Molino del Hortelano is a beautiful country house 7 kilometers (around 15 minutes) South of Casabermeja in the Malaga province of Spain. It is one of the great "White Houses of Andalucia" with white-washed walls as well as rock walls inside and out. The important, functional parts of the house (kitchen, beds, bathrooms, pool, Air Conditioning, TV, and furniture) are all modern while the outside and inside walls and some furniture have rustic charm with old solid wood touches and tile floors. The Host, Juan, was fantastic. He was easily available, friendly and very helpful. The house is next to an award-winning, boutique olive oil mill which increases the "chic" factor. It was not "in season" so no people or noise. His pride of ownership and desire for the visitors to have a good time clearly shone thru. The setting is overlooking a beautiful valley with gorgeous views of the sunsets. The bedrooms are upstairs so mobility with stairs is a must. Likewise the setting shows the beauty of Andalucia, but the house is away from neighbors and town so a car is a must. It was perfect for sightseeing day trips (1/2 hour from Malaga, 1 1/4 hours from Granada, 1 1/2 hours from Cordoba, 2 hours from Gibraltar with a drive thru Marbella, and 2 hours from Seville). We did all but Seville and had no problems. We returned tired from sightseeing to jump in the pool and sleep soundly and refreshed. I would highly recommend this house and would use it again if we return to the area.
