When you look at this place online it looks like paradise and I have to say the property looks nice and the room size is great but that is all. Our room was not properly cleaned. Long hairs on the ground, hair clips of previous guest on the table next to the bed, no toilet paper, opened shower gel still in the shower etc. there are 2 pools but one was closed. The other had a nice pool bar, but there was no staff and the bar was closed. In the evening there was a special chef’s dinner. We called to make a booking. One asked 5.30 or 6.00? We made a reservation for 6.00. Turned out the dinner with music did not start until 7.30, too late for us as we were with our young daughter. We were placed in a dark, half empty side room where chairs were being removed from tables where people were eating, it was dark, there was no attention to us at all and the band was doing their sound check ( which is of course normal but not nice if you are dining there). The tomato soup was really nice. The Caesar salad was poor, just salad with too much dressing and a few croutons. Spaghetti Bolognese was ok. Service was extremely poor, we kind of felt we were really unwanted there. Breakfast, same thing. Dark room, no lights, not a bit of background music, very basic breakfast and staff just not attentive at all! ( if you do know what napkins are in English, you might wish to consider another job instead of hospitality with many foreign guests). We had a deal via booking and paid 100 euro’s per night which felt like a rip off. Horrible stay and would not recommend this hotel to anyone! Only great person: Oscar the bellman, compliments to him!
We were first assigned a room which was cold and a bit mildewy. When we asked for a room change, we were then upgraded to a cabina, higher up on the mountain. We loved our time here. Sitting out on the deck, we watched numerous birds gorging on a fruit tree all morning. The thermal pool was so relaxing, as was the great massage I had. The property has many mysterious paths, nooks and crannies, great for kids to explore. The place is still being renovated and is huge, with nature paths and incredible flora all around.
Would love to know the history of this place. Beautiful river setting, colonial style buildings. But smell of mildew in the room and food only so-so. The thermal pool was delightfully warm. Hoping the owners can bring it back up to what it must have been years ago.
We love our room (honeymoon suite) which is spacious, comfortable, and clean, with a whirlpool in the suite. We enjoyed the warm thermal pool and the nature trail. Many beautiful birds and butterflies are seen here. The staff are friendly and helpful, and since not many of them speak a lot of English, I am finally getting a chance to practice some Spanish in Costa Rica. One of the swimming pools is currently closed and is being painted.
Our first time there was in 2005 and it was pretty nice, no complaints. But we went back 12 years later and the place is still nice, perfect to escape from the noise of the city and be relaxed, but it hasn’t had any maintenance, it’s so sad because the hotel is in a very nice area.
A wonderful part of Costa Rica with beautiful scenery. I traveled with a large group so I will try to reflect the general sentiment. First, let me say the property has HUGE potential and the employees are very kind hearted. The property is run down. We had to move rooms due to NO WIFI and mildew. The first room (the honeymoon suite) had a porch and the furniture was covered with bat poop. High end toiletries were promised and all we got was a shampoo sample and one small soap. Two towels, no hand towels, no wash clothes. The water was even turned off. We asked for another room. The second room did not smell. However, we did need to request towels, the ceiling fan is VERY small and shook violently. Two of the pillows smelled horrible, as if no bleach is used. One friend checked in next door and had NO shower fixtures. NONE, They were torn from the shower, Another couple we know had NO screen on their patio door. There is NO AC, so you want the door open. The food was bland but average overall. The pool was lovely, my wife enjoyed her message, but the staff was not there at the designated time. At this stage, I can NOT recommend the property. But, the potential is HUGE.
The place and the rooms are really nice, but the service was not going at all. The receptionist told me that our package includes two beverages but in the restaurant the waitress told me it was just one. The service in the restaurant is too slow, try to avoid it. Since the service is not good, I won't recommend this place for weddings. Don't buy the packages with food included. They will give a small menu with very few options. They served us a salad that wasn't fresh and when we told the waitress, she didn't offered to change it or even said sorry. The service in the spa is great. Take a massage if you can.
Stayed 1 night on our trip to Cartago, we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant since the road was to lonely and set away from downtown, once arrived at the restaurant the waitress was very unfamiliar with the menu, unable to provide suggestions or details of the meal, plus 3 of my selection were out of stock, the food was very expensive if we compare it to the quality of it, although the hotel was very relaxing and had a peaceful environment, the room was perfect, also the people at front desk were very kind and helpful,
Tucked away in a rain forest close to the town of Orosi is the most wonderful hotel. The Rio perlas is a place for complete relaxation far from the maddening crowds. The rooms are housed in bungalows, are spacious and well appointed. The restaurant is a short walk through beautifully maintained gardens and offers a great menu. The pool is full of warm thermal water from an underground river and area is sunny with a bar.
We stayed here 2 nights on our road trip through Costa Rica. We were checked in quickly by Francis and our luggage was brought by the van to our room. The first night we stayed in a master suite and the second night in a wood cabin. The suite was not 100% clean with dust in the corner of the bedroom and in the wood cabin we had some uninvited insects, but this can happen in a fully wooden cabin. The hot pool was great for us as a family. The other pool was under construction. Breakfast was good with enough options and of course gallo pinto. We did not use the restaurant other then breakfast. The grounds of the hotel are well maintained and it is a pleasure for the eye to walk around. The river is going through the property. We can fully recommend this hotel for families. We had our own car with us so it was easy to leave for excursions during the day, if you don't have a car you will depend on others or you need to walk a few km to the main road.
