So I know this is October but I had a family problem since my stay here and I am only getting round to doing this . I arrived at this hotel at 3:00 only to bed told that check in was not until 4:30 : This was a Tuesday and I most say I didn’t find the young girl with glasses helpful . When she told me about the check in time I was stunned at this because normal hotel are usual 3:00 . Anyway I asked if I could leave my card details at reception so I could put food and drink on my card I was told no cause it’s not a credit card . The hotel I work in doesn’t care what card it is Debit or Credit Card . Anyway near 5:00 I got into my room eventually and headed down to the pool where it was mayhem with children and running around and jumping into the pool which I thought it was danger and also to point out there was no lifeguard present and I couldn’t see one for the duration I was there . I headed back to my room and went got dinner in the bar . Early bird special was lovely and the waiter was good at his job . The next morning breakfast was ok but dry and I noticed a lot of dirty tables that where not been cleaned and I was seated and had to and ask for coffee because the waitress staff had thought I got it but in actually fact it was some else coffee that had already been there . I headed off on my travels and came back in the afternoon to fresh up and go to town. I rang reception to ask if they could book me a taxi and they said there’s a phone down here that I can use and would have to do it myself . Be nice if they had said we will do it for you . This has never been an issue with other hotels that I have stayed in . Anyway landed back that night only to go for a smoke and be annoyed be youths hanging around the smoking area looking for cigarettes and been very intimidating. The porter was not good at his job a man in his 50s I would say he was at handling them and getting them to leave the premises . Useless he was . Also to point out the two nights I stayed no bottled water in the room which I find appalling . The next day I left to continue on my travels . I work in this industry and I also have the tasked of recommending family hotels to my hotel that i work for . You won’t be getting a recommendation in fact I will be discouraging your business. I hope your hotel improves because the price I payed for it I was expecting top class Treatment instead It was a shambles.
I did find a 4 pm check in very late. Lady’s at reception were very polite and nothing was a problem . I had dinner in the bar which was lovely . The wings just melted in my mouth . Taxis to and from hotel were so easy to get . When I did get back the bar was closed . I have to say night porter was very rude all I had wanted was a glass of ice water . I sat down with a few friends in the bar and he kept shouting at us . There didn’t seem to be a lounge we could go out to sit at . The room was lovely and spacious comfortable bed and a bath which I think is a lovely addition . The hot breakfast left a lot to be desired it was all dried out and the fried eggs were like rubber , scrambled eggs had no flavour . Cleaners were knocking on my door before 12!
I visited the Talbot one Sunday evening in September i was served by jennifer Leigh She was very professional friendly and efficient The service she provided a very good service and was very hard working She is a credit to the hotel I hope the management realise how lucky you are to have such an excellent member of staff She went above the call of duty kind regards joyce
I rang the Talbot hotel to book a table for Sunday dinner for my family as there was 11 of us and normal carvery would be busy, so we wanted to be guaranteed seating together obviously. The girl in reception said she didn't think they took bookings for Sundays but that she would put me through to the bar to speak to someone, I spoke to a nice friendly chap who said it would be no problem reserving a table. We arrived on Sunday and were told there was no table, no booking and no record of anything. We were then told if we wanted to go into the bar and see if we could find a table for ourselves, as we expected for any Sunday carvery it was flat out busy and of course there were no tables, thus why we wanted to book. The hotel or their staff in no way tried to accommodate us nor did they seem to care that we were going to leave without having dinner. It was 11 peoples business plus possible repeat business, I was very angry that I had been told we had a booking then messed around, I get that wires can get crossed, but they weren't too pushed about fixing their mistake. All we wanted was a family dinner, my sister and both our families were bringing our parents who are in their 70's for dinner, they could've suggested we wait while they attempted to sort tables but they didn't bother, I even emailed them to give them right to reply before posting a review, but I got no answer. So if you're looking for friendly staff who go above and beyond, go to a different hotel in Carlow like we did.
We had a lovely stay for the weekend. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food in the Bistro was excellent. Breakfast was very nice. The layout of the food in the restaurant was a little scattered however.
We booked talbot 1 night stay with dome family fun deal €180 absolutely fantastic value for money as you can see from pics we got so much for our money staff were delightful couldn't do enough food was delicious 4 course dinner and breakfast great choice we had a fantastic stay it was our lil boys 8th birthday he thoroughly enjoyed it plenty to do couldn't recommend it enough we will definitely be returning soon
be aware that if you stay in this hotel that rooms 101 to 108 are above the function room where at weekends they hold wedding receptions with bands and discos that play through to 2am so do not expect to get any sleep until after 2 am , but to cap it all the room that i was staying in 104 was above the outside smoking area ,where the very loud probably intoxicated guests shout at each other until the early hours so do not leave your window open, it is a great shame that hotels do not sound proof the space between a function room and bedroom area and insist on having rooms directly above these areas to maximise profit , a 99 euro room in not a cheap nights sleep if you are disturbed like i was
I stayed here for the weekend for a special family occasion. The hotel was very nice with good facilities. We had a meal included in the package and I couldn’t say enough about how great Mary in the restaurant was. She was a star and really made the family event special. My only criticism would be two bar staff members. One was incompetent as far as I could figure. I was short changed at the bar and subsequently made feel as if I was trying to pull a fast one. I was disgusted. While I realize it was probably a genuine mistake I didn’t like his and the bar mans attitude ie huddling around whispering. The bar manager was just plain ignorant and his attitude sucked. Other than that I would recommend this hotel but nobody wants snotty bar staff. Thanks but no thanks.......
Th hotel is situated outside of town. You need a car to get there, parking is free. There are two restaurants, but one is connected to the bar so children are sent out late in the evening (I guess it was at 10PM?)
Room was not clean, stains on carpet and curtains, lamp shades all broken and wallpaper torn. Breakfast was awful all dried up and hard, food all over dining room floor at breakfast. Hotel in general looks tired needs a refurb. Hotel was described as under 12 mins walk to town centre .... more like 35 mins. Charge 4 star prices for a very inferior hotel.
