This is a nice hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Our room was tiny, but had a comfortable bed and was supplied with everything else you generally need in a hotel room. The breakfast, while a bit expensive, was fabulous with a great selection of delicious foods. On the one hand, the location is excellent, right in central Cardiff in walking distance from numerous restaurants and attractions. But on the other hand, the location is problematic if you hope to sleep at night. The street noise went on until 4:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights and in our 4th floor room we could hear every drunken conversation, shout, and song. This was unfortunate. However, it is not the fault of the hotel staff, just something to be prepared for if you opt to visit on the weekend.
I have stayed at The Royal Hotel annually for several years now and I really love staying there. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are great with plenty of variety. The location is perfect for getting a bus down to Cardiff Bay (bus stop just down the street on the other side). The hotel is also close to the shops and the Castle. Lots of eating places nearby. Also 10 min walk from the railway station. What's not to love about the Royal Hotel !
Fairly modern and comfortable rooms which were a little tired in places - leaky shower door and creaky floorboards were the two main offenders. Comfortable bed though and a good nights sleep! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent for anyone who needs something in the city centre. Prices are very reasonable. Breakfast is overpriced but convenient - be warned, it "starts" at 7 but is not usually ready until a little after that.
This was booked for me and I saw reports about this hotel being noisy- it wasn’t particularly for me. Location is good for the train station and places to get a drink or something to eat. The room was ok but not great. Specifically my TV made a buzzing noise and the remote was dirty. The bathroom and bedroom were otherwise clean. Staff were pleasant. Nothing unpleasant about this place but nothing to make me say it was “very good”.
Modern, clean, beautiful decor, friendly & welcoming staff. Accessibility fantastic. They thought of everything. Cooked breakfast via room amazing!! Wish a safe smoking area was available, although smoking outside the hotel entrance is permitted
We were recently in Cardiff for five days and stayed at the Royal Hotel. This hotel is situated on St Mary Street, which is really the mall, a couple of minutes walk from the Central Railway Station. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal. The staff are very helpful and it is a lovely hotel. It is handy to almost everything in Cardiff, just a couple of minutes walk from the Castle. The Museum would be about a 10 minute walk. The hotel has two entrances, so if you have luggage, it is easier to use the back entrance. The front entrance has two levels of stairs to negotiate. We would certainly stay at the Royal should we ever stay in Cardiff again.
Welcome to this reasonably modren hotel in beautiful downtown Cardiff. It is located in the middle of stretch with a number of delightful shopping arcades, resteeraunts and pubs within easy walking distance. Our room was very clean, the washroom was modern. The hotels British breakfast was very good and the dining room spacious. An elevator is available and is appreciated and the staff is friendly. This hotel is in the centre of everywhere a tourist wants to be. You may want to consider the breakfast option because many of the surrounding restaurants do not open until 10:00 AM. We had a handicapped room which we just seemed to "end up with," so it may have been more spacious than other rooms. The main strengths of this hotel is its location, an easy walk from the train station, the center of the shopping\tourism places and a comfortable stay. If you are pulling your suitcases, do use the back entrance. There is classy lounge on the main floor just accross from the reception desk. A very comfortable stay
This was an appaling hotel. First of all they dont have parking facilities so you need to park at NCP costing £16 a day! The rooms were dark, cold, noisy and very dusty. The breakfast starts at 7am though we went at 8am and it still wasnt ready. Their was not a decent variety to pick from food wise and the breakfast staff were terrible. So dissappointed as the pictures made it look really nice but it most certainly is not!
My wife and I stayed here on our last night in Cardiff and it was an extremely pleasant stay. We were initially concerned about noise because we're both light sleepers, but they had rooms without windows with good sound-proofing, such as the Cinema room, which ended up being perfect. There were lots of food options right around the hotel for dinner and brunch the next morning, and the walk to Cardiff Central was extremely easy and convenient. Highly recommended as a place to stay if you want to stay in Cardiff proper.
Stayed one night to watch a concert in the Motorpoint arena, it’s very close and right in centre of Cardiff. Nice rooms and bed, clean and tidy , bit more expensive than a few hotels but great location. The breakfast is expensive at £14 a year but we had ours outside in Wetherspoon which is right next door for £3.80 a head. Only downside was the parking, it’s at the nearly NCP and although it is discounted down from £25 a night it’s still £16 a night which is something to consider when booking this hotel.
