Days Inn Magor3.0 out of 5.0

Our room was basic, but clean and tidy! We booked this as we were going to an Ocean Colour Scene gig at Caldicot Castle and everywhere else was fully booked. I was expecting a horror but it was fine!!
My party of 5 adults stayed here last night for a Coldplay concert in Cardiff. We chose the Days Inn for the price as everything else was either completely booked or stupidly overpriced. My expectations weren't massively high as these motorway hotels are never the highest standard & that expectation hasn't changed as a result of last night. When we arrived only one of the three rooms was ready which was fine because we were early. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We used the one room to get changed, left our stuff & headed off to Cardiff. On our return, there was a terrible smell of damp in the corridors & bedrooms however the other rooms were ready; I had asked for one the rooms to have two beds as I was sharing with my niece so was more than surprised to find 2 extra beds made up, one on the sofa & the other on the floor. We put the two extra beds back into one & I used it as my neice is pregnant so needed the bed. To say this 'bed' was uncomfortable is a massive understatement. It was lumpy & I could only lay in one position to get any sort of comfort & allow me to get some sleep. There is no air conditioning so the room was very hot & we had to have the window open right over my 'bed' so I was also in a draft. We paid £210 for the 3 rooms so it wasn't expensive but it wasn't dirt cheap either. If I was desperate to find somewhere to stay for a gig in Cardiff again I would consider here but it wouldn't be my first choice!
Me and my boyfriend recently stayed whilst attending a Coldplay gig at the Principality stadium as the Days Inn wasn't too far. When we first arrived at our room we were welcomed with furniture that looked like it should of been put in the skip years ago but we tried to look past that considering the cheap price. However when entering the bathroom there was a strong smell of damp and excrement. Upon further inspection we noticed excrement had been left on the bathroom floor from a previous guest. When going down to reception we were given another room however the receptionist didn't seem at all surprised which seems odd considering how disgusting it is. The next room looked like it needed a good hoover with rubbish such as mouldy grapes still being left on the floor and the bathroom also smelled like damp, the toilet had skid marks all over the inside from the previous guest and I wouldn't of dared to even use the shower. All in all for the few hours we used it to sleep the bed was comfortable and seemed clean but everything else was an utter let down and absolutely disgusting. I think they basically change the sheets from guest to guest and that's how they consider a room to be clean. Not in my book. Try with caution and maybe taking your own cleaning products with you would be a good idea.
For the price on Expedia, it's substandard however I read somewhere that if you go directly to them, they'll match the price! Good deal! Although the bath plug hole was blocked because of hair that hadn't been removed, bit disgusting! Otherwise quite good night sleep!
The reception was welcoming and the room clean, but there were issues one being a health and safety hazard. Firstly the health and safety, the room heater was only secured by one screw the second seemed to be OK but if a young child puled on it the heater may come drift. Next the bathroom, the fittings around the path were surrounded by rust where it has corroded making it look less than appealing, also in places the waterproof mastic had come away or needed cleaning. The bed was not too comfortable but that may be a matter of taste. Would I stay there again No.
Ive been using the Magor Days Inn hotel for a few months staying one or two nights per week. It's not the poshest or shiniest of hotels but its clean and functional and does the job at a good price. I also feels nicer and more comfortable than other cheap hotels such as ibis budget or travel lodge. Also the desk and chairs are of a reasonable size (unlike ibis budget!) so Im able to work at a desk in the evening if needs be. Ive also stayed in one of the more recently refurbished rooms which are nicer too! All in all would recommend - You'll probably be happy if decent with a good price is more important to you than "shiny"..!
Overall, Excellent! staff are very friendly and helpfull, Gave us map and advised us on where to go for food and helped us get on to the wifi, was very good. Room was basic, Though was clean and working. All that was required. Needs updating to keep up with the times. Check out was quick and easy as we left early in the morning.
Some light bulbs don't work, bathrooms need bringing into this century. disabled room, gets you a sliding door to bigger bathroom, not to the room itself and not a disability friendly shower of bath. Size of bathroom cuts down room itself, a wheel chair user would struggle in the room itself We had booked 2 rooms for a party of 4 at this facility for the weekend 1/4/2017 to 2/4/17. As on previous occasions we were welcomed and quickly booked in to our and explained about facilities available to us. We were issued with keys to rooms 06 and 10, which was fine or so we thought until we wanted to settle in for the night. We had been out for a meal at Magor and returned at 22.05 hrs to settle for the night. Within minutes of going to bed, we noticed car racing started up on the car park. Some local lad and lasses in high spirits, who had already been having a good old party supported by their car audio systems and some guitars, had obviously decided to spin their wheels as well as their CDs now. By this time it had gone past 23.30 hrs, they eventually cleared off only to be replaced by some guests to your facility to have a meeting and chat in the corridor outside our rooms. As well as some fighting shouts on car park. This finished just after midnight, so I was now looking forward to a restful night’s sleep, But the story continues: The room above our room, we were in number 10, seemed to have been used as a keep fit facility by someone. Hours and hours of heavy walking forward and backward, thumping and seemingly dropping objects right above my head, did not make for a restful night at all. In fact, my daughter shot up from a little slumber, saying: “what on earth is going on with all the noise”, I decided to go and find receptionist at about 4.15 am to ask for some solution to this. He said he would try and find out about the situation. I am afraid, this didn’t make much of a difference to it at all. To say I had no sleep that night, would not be an overstatement of the facts. We had come away to enjoy time at beautiful Caldicot and surrounding areas and found it a complete nightmare. I was so deprived of sleep, it made it quite impossible to enjoy the following day and the thought of driving home was quite scary and only facilitated by copious amounts of coffee. We arrived back home only to have to go straight to bed, at about 20 hrs, so I would hopefully be fit for work the next morning. I struggled through the following day. Not my best experience of a weekend away in Wales. I was originally putting this aside as a lesson learned and look for alternative options for future stays, until I received a little reminder today: Car parking ticket even though we had registered our two vehicles. I hope, you get the problems sorted and I look forward to a plausible explanation for our bad experience on the weekend in question.
I was a bit apprehensive about staying, based on the many bad reviews, but in fact my room wasn't as grotty as I had expected. The hotel staff were friendly, the bedroom/bathroom were fairly clean, and noise levels were good. A few relatively trivial points - the heater had been left on in the room which meant it was sweltering when I first arrived; the sofa bed was very small and had no bedding (yes, we could have asked, but by the time we found out, it was very late), and the cold tap in the bathroom was very stiff. However, this is a budget hotel - fine for a short stay.
Room was Comfortable and clean. Rooms in need of a little Refurbishment but nothing major. Looks like they have started and is being done to a great standards. I've stayed in a few different Days Inns and This one is defiantly the best by far with the improvements they are making. The staff are always amazing and this one is no different. Receptionist was very helpful really went out of her way, to ensure i had a great stay. WiFi Was good, had a food voucher was able to use in Costa in the morning,Toast and coffee was able to get a sandwich for work too. Ideal Stop will be in area soon and will Re-book at Days inn Magor, will booking directly with hotel this time.
