Whether you have a weekend at your hands or can plan a longer stay, Cape Cod will leave you refreshed and entertained at the same time. Being located near the ocean, enchanting forests, and marshlands, there is enough to keep nature lovers longing for more. Whether it is whale watching, or a day’s cycling, you will find plenty to do in and around the area. Stay in one of the many boutique hotels Cape Cod has to offer to enjoy this destination to its fullest.
Begin your Cape Cod adventure by spending time at one of its museums. Include the following museums on your must-see list: Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, and the Atwood House Museum. The latter is particularly noteworthy as it was built by sea captain Joseph C. Atwood in 1752. Its architecture features a gambrel roof, hand-hewn floor planks, and antique dolls and toys, creating a wonderful window into the past. The New Gallery displays portraits of local sea captains. The Joseph C. Lincoln Room holds the manuscripts, first editions, and mementos of the Chatham writer. Also, antique tools are displayed in a room in the basement.
Next up, visit the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, where you can learn more about the nearby harbor for which it is a tribute. Here, you can enjoy changing maritime art exhibits, classes on boatbuilding and other nautical arts, and an active boatbuilding shop. Of course, the main theme circles around the ocean. So you see, there really is an abundance of attractions to discover in this coastal town and its love for the sea.
