Great boutique hotel at the lake lago maggiore. Clean, stylish, Friendly personel. But very small rooms and close to the train rails. Reserve a room facing to the lake. Otherwise unfortunately too noisy.

I have already reviewed the hotel with its ridiculously small rooms! Maybe - if you try hard - you may find smaller rooms in Tokyo! Would never stay here again. Yesterday, I tried to restaurant and got a really bad green risotto with scallops - soggy and absolutely no taste! Unable to finish eating the dish! Now will for sure avoid this hotel and restaurant in the future. There are many nice restaurants in Locarno like Centenario and Da Valentino where you are never disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here @ Giardino Lago. The location, staff and restaurants are great. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner is fantastic - wonderful staff, delicious food and has a wonderful view. The terrace is great. Yes the rooms are small - don't complain about that (as other reviews have) because you know that now and in good weather is not an issue! They rooms are very well organised, very clean and the bathrooms use space well. An easy and gentle 30 minute walk to the hotel from the train station, and when checked in , the free bikes make for a fun afternoon out. Thanks to all the staff who were wonderful, and the restaurant staff exceptional.

My best friend and I decided to stay in this hotel for 3 nights on a girls only trip. I try to stay in SPG hotels as much as I can for its reliability and picked this as we wanted to visit the Ticino region. The room we got was small - we did choose the standard option and I guess there are larger room options available. There was barely a view out of the window but the hotel was situated on a very quaint stretch by the lake. Breakfast in the dining hall was the best part of staying here with amazing views of the greenery lake and mountains. The breakfast spread was also pretty good even though it was included in the rate. Location wise, the hotel is quite far from any action and the nearest bus stop is a walk up a steep slope. All in all, fair value for Switzerland, I probably will choose to stay somewhere nearer to town next time.

The location is very good, however the rooms are fairly small and the restaurant, while good, is not exceptional. There is no pool, that would be quite useful giving the weather and location of the hotel. Slightly disappointed for the expectation. The staff is very professional and friendly On one particular night there was a lot of noise. There really isn't a bar and the lounge roof top closes at 11 pm, so people were crammed at the reception area. It was extremely loud. Impossible to sleep for the other guests.

Giardino Lago is a nice hotel right on the shore of Lago Maggiore, north of Locarno. Location is very nice. The hotel interior is decorated with gusto in a trendy, W-ish style which is very well executed. The restaurant dining room, in particular, is magnificient. We had dinner there and it was an excellent meal. Fine cuisine, a divine rack of lamb, at very reasonable prices. Breakfast was excellent too wth a choice of quality foods. The one caveat to be mindful off is that the rooms are tiny, tiny. The building was renovated in 2011 and loooks new, but the floor plan is cramped. We got upgraded to a nicer room with a direct lake view on the front of the building, but there would not be enough space to comfortably sit in the room. A very friendly staff and an overall good experience would make us come back, in spite of the tiny rooms. Decent parking available. WiFi temperamental.

We stayed here for 2 nights. We liked the location a lot. The view was lovely. We enjoyed walking and cycling around the lake. Our dinner and breakfast were fine but not outstanding. We had better meals outside of the hotel. It would also be nice if breakfast ran slightly later on the weekend. As others have noted, the rooms are small and the beds could be more comfortable. The door to our room would bang into the glass door for our bathroom which made us very cautious when entering the room. The bathroom products (Dipiu) were not great. I get what they are trying to do but I wish I had brought my own. For a boutique hotel.. There really needs to be more of a lounge/common area that isn't just outdoors. We were commenting that we were glad that we left when we did because it was starting to rain quite a bit and there is no where to go if it rains. The rooms are too small to be holed up in and the lobby is really functional and for arriving guests. There are a few chairs around some candles in the restaurant but that is it. The restaurant can get quite busy. This is a big negative in our view.. Especially if you want to come back and have a few drinks in a cosy environment before retiring to your room. It would be great if they had an honesty bar because the staff aren't that keen on serving drinks after 10pm or at least that was our impression. They are very focused on setting up for the next day which is understandable but if you want 10+ minutes to be served a drink and get the bill immediately... It doesn't make you feel very welcome. The restaurant could benefit from having takeaway cups for coffee because it would be nice to be able to have some of your coffee while walking around the lake. Outdoors would benefit from gas fireplaces/pits. We loved the area so we intend to return but our plan is to try out some of the other bb/hotel offerings in the area.

Only get to spend one night but what a great experience - excellent lake-front property, great corner suite with a great view. Dinner was an unforgettable experience which was made so much better with the great, engaging service delivered by Matthias. Only complaint we have is on the bed, which was a little too stiff for two more matured souls. A nice long walk early morning along the lake preceded a great breakfast and too soon did we have to leave. Thanks to Gabriel and the team at Giardino Lago for turning one night into an experience we will remember for many days to come.

If I could 6 stars I would. This Hotel is just superb! From start to finish! Their staff is among the best. Bending over backwards to help. I phoned initially and then via emails. They responded quickly and willingly. Gabriel, Jasmine, Doris, Francisca, and all the staff we encountered were just wonderful! Would highly recommend this place and already have. Breakfast was delicious and more like a brunch with your choice of breads, fruit, yoghurt, juice, meat, cheese, cereal, dried fruit and you can also choose a hot dish. I had the omelet both mornings and they were cooked to perfection. Not over cooked. Just delicious! It was big enough we didn't need lunch. And the view from the restaurant is so pretty you will want to sit there all day and soak it in. Prior to our departure, we discovered that traveling in 3s is not easy in Switzerland (CH). I traveled to CH with my 2 daughters 18 and 20. In the US, we usually would be able to choose 2 double beds (sometimes 2 queens) OR 1 king bed in a room. Easy either way, we are all small so we would fit in 2 double beds or 1 king. I requested a king bed and they had no problem or hesitation giving us a room with a king. We stayed at the Fairmont Montreux last week and I had to use an upgrade to a larger room with a king bed and was charged CHF80 for the additional person. They had a sofa bed in their much larger room but it was so uncomfortable that we all slept in the king bed. The room at the Giardino Lago are smaller, BUT the service far outweighed that. They even gave us a room with a Veranda. And how smart they use a liguid soap from dispensers instead of the small bars that often gets wasted since it is never used up. 5 stars for the Giardino Lago! My only regret, was we didn't eat there for dinner. We ate in Locarno instead but I bet the food would have been fabulous too! The restaurant was packed the first night we were there. And the second night we had gelato for dinner on a boat ride. We ate a lot of gelato on this trip. You will not regret staying here. I'd guess the Giardino Ascona is great too!

Stayed there for 3 days with my travel companion (cute little pug puppy) and throughly enjoyed my stay. The best asset of this place is their staff! Genuinely nice and helpful, they make your stay extra special. My room was very very tiny but had a sizable patio. Very clean and stylish as all Giardino hotels. Restaurant is very good quality and they serve delicious international dishes. Loved their terrace bar, nicely decorated and beautiful view on the Lago. Only fond memories, I am going back again this year, no question, that's how great this place is.
