Hotel Walhalla4.0 out of 5.0

Hotel Walhalla is very centrally located in the middle of St Gallen, just next to train station. The hotel has pub bistro in the ground level, and the service there was very friendly and professional. The hotel side was a clear disappointment; the reception staff was miserable and so were the rooms; out dated, worn out, filthy and lacking any kind of character. The hair display in the bathroom (eventually from the past guests) was shocking. This hotel has no air conditioning, and when you are forced to open the window to get fresh air, there is fairly high noise level. During our visit there was heavy construction work on going opposite to the hotel starting at 7am, but the staff did not bother to inform the guests about this. Walhalla advertises to have Nespresso machines in each room, but they fool the guests by offering few fake capsules. The bed was totally out dated and very noisy. Breakfast was fairly good basic level, but left no memory. All in all, if you are not forced to stay next to train station, you are very likely to get better value for your money elsewhere.
We arrived at 10am and unexpectedly the room was ready by then. What's more, our family room was upgraded to private suite, which is huge! Air ventilation can be improved though. Staff is friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the stay!
We stayed at the Hotel Walhalla for one night on a road trip and found the hotel to be adequate. The room is clean, if spartan and old. The bed was quite small for two people. We occasionally heard loud noises from the hallway. It was warm because there is no air conditioning. The room did come with a standing fan. The parking was 25 CHF a night and was quite tight. The hotel staff, however, was quite professional and the location is great, within easy walking distance of the abbey library and other main sights.
We were hesitating between Walhalla and the Einstein so when a friend said the Einstein wasn't anything special (and we were coming in late) I decided to save CHF 100 and book here. I was not let down. A hop, skip and a jump from the train station (when thunder storms were looming) was perfect. The staff is friendly, rooms clean, back room quiet and a fan for cool air. We settled in perfectly.
We stayed in the 7th floor family suite - requires elevator to 6 then walk one flight. Nicely appointed, modern, air conditioned, ample space for 4. Other rooms in hotel are being remodeled over coming year. Restaurant (enter from left of reception desk) offers 10% off if billed to your room and the food quality was very good with numerous options including some healthy.
The check-in was very quick, which was good. The staff is willing to be helpfull, but it seems that they were'nt trained for a 4 stars hotel. Breakfast was the same in each morning, and not very varied! The room is OK, but you can see some spiderweb. (but that can happens even at home :-) ) The mini bar is empty, and if you want something you have to call the reception. The double bed, is quite small. (queen size). Overall, I think it's overpriced hotel.
Nice locations, near to super markets and good retsaurants. just opposite to railway station. The rrom service is not available. You need to ask everything like shower gels, etc. and if you wish to get something from them, you need to downstairs to fetch from the reception. The breakfast was good.
The Walhalla hotel is a bit "old glory". It smells when you get in, and not all rooms are refurbished yet. We had some trouble getting the right room (at the back side), although we had a written confirmation from Booking.com. One of us ended up in a room at the front side, which was very noisy on the Saturday night. This was correctly compensated at checkout by a discount. The breakfast was correct, continental style.
From the moment we entered this hotel we were greeted warmly on a very cold winters morning. The lobby is small yet inviting. We were told exactly how everything works, from where the breakfast is situated to where we could get a good meal at the hotel restaurant. Don't expect something too fancy or modern however if you have stayed in any other 3 - 4 star hotel in Switzerland you can expect just that and not much more...or maybe a little more...In the room is a little expresso coffee machine nestled in the corner of the of the desk. That was the highlight for me. In addition to this you can also expect a nice clean room and bathroom. No choccies on your pillow though...Would have been nice since I was in the land of Chocolate. All in all a good hotel in which you can relax and it is sure to cover your basic needs.
We stayed at your hotel 2nd Dec 2016 for 2 nights. Good location, railway station right on the door step. Our room was clean and the bed were comfy. The breakfast was fine, except I went for a second cup of tea and they had run out of the breakfast tea, when I asked the lady behind the server she said no breakfast tea, only the ones you see, which was not what I asked for, I asked if she could get me some more and she said no, it wasn't late (8-30am). I was very disappointed in her attitude, she was more interested in a lady who had just come in from outside, I don't think she was a guest. I would have like to see a kettle in the room so you could make a cup of tea, as everybody does not drink coffee first thing in a morning or last thing at night. The coffee was awful not sure if it was the right capsules.
