It had everything you would like for the priced payed. It is close to the train station and very central. We stayed for 2 nights. Room was a bit too hot when we arrived although very spacious. If the sun hits the large windows it will warm up quite badly on the upper floors. The building and infrastructures are old. Parking the car in their garage can be tricky if a conference is taking place. The restaurant food was delicious and the breakfast is worthwhile.
Was there for a meeting at the University, The hotel was picked by the host, and the location was good (very close to the train station, 5 minute walk to old town, but 20 minutes to University). The single room was small, and facing the parking lot, and no AC. Opened the window for cooler night air; but the happy partying people from the bars kept going until 3AM. Finally lost my tolerance, and upgraded to the other side (after asking for a few times). The double room facing the mountains were much better. Summary, pick your room wisely...
The hotel is in a very central location close to the train station. The room we had was big and clean with moquette... the hotel need a refresh. It doesn’t correspond to a four stars...A lot of noise during the night (there are different bars very close) and in the morning when they clean the square. We took one small bottle of water and chips from the minibar = chf 12.-
Pros: location: easily accessible from the train station. Right in the city centre. Most attraction and shopping malls within a walking distance. Wi-fi: flawless. Cons: 1.Hotel need thorough renovation. 2. Staff is rigid, not very helpful and not very competent since every single personal data (except my name and passport number) in my invoice were written wrong. Far overpriced for the value.
The price is right, the hotel is centrally located and they accept dogs, with a park next door to walk them. However, there is very limited parking outside hotel, and to access the parking garage guests are obliged to drive quite a way to a nasty part of town in order to take the one-way narrow winding streets which lead to the entrance to the parking garage. Not very nice at night!
The location is good, very near the station within a 3 mintutes walk. It was convenient COOP supermarket is closely. My room is clean and I have a nice view of the moutain and old church form the window, also I have spent a wonderful day with an atomosphere of middle ages. Thanks.
Room with two beds, on 9th floor, nice views. I have never stayed in a hotel room in my entire life that did not have air conditioning. But here I am on the 9th floor and it's sweltering. I can open the windows, which we have done the past two nights and in come the bugs and moths. There are no screens in the windows. Did not even occur to me to ask about AC, but have also never travelled in Europe before--first time. Restaurant is Ok, but advertises a bar as well. I like a glass or two of wine with dinner, and by day 2 they were out of Chardonnay. Offered me something else, which was good!, but next night asked for a glass and it was gone. Food is good but very little traffic through the restaurant. Booked online for one price but will have to go back through emails to make sure pricing was the same. Wish things were better because location is great!! Less than 5 min to train, mall and fun stuff. It is dated and the rooms need work--they're good sized but carpets are dirty and bathrooms need work.
The hotel building dates back to the era when every hotel chain occupied tall buildings that dominated the area, made from steel, glass as well as concrete. now the building comprises offices as well the hotel. Rooms are very very old-they still has everything that used to be luxury 20 years ago-massive furniture, metal doors decorated with faux wood panels, marble installations in the toilet room-all very old, with scratches, windows need to be repainted. No air conditioning. To be honest this is not a 4-star hotel, but: the buffet breakfast with a vast selection of warm dishes and fruits makes a good balance. You can stay here overnight, not more. P.S. If by chance NH managers read this, guys, you have been killing your brand.
Had a room on 9th (top) floor and view was good but corridor smelt rather musty. Breakfast was adequate but nothing exciting. Tea selection was good. The bed seemed rather old and not so supportive. As staying only 2 nights it is ok.
A local told me that the NH Hotel is known as The Wart, and it certainly lived up to that nickname. It’s true that the location can’t be beat – it’s a less than five-minute walk from the main train station – but during our 4 nights there we came to really dislike the place. For starters, it is an eyesore, being a multi (14?) story concrete monolith that looms over an asphalt parking lot. We were there during a heat wave and, because the hotel lacks A/C, had to manage windows and curtains in a mostly vain attempt to keep the room at a tolerable temperature. But heat happens, and this hotel offers no defence against it. Once your windows are open, you’re treated to the noise of people partying in the nearby park, audible even from our room at the back of the hotel and often until 3 or 4 a.m. Perhaps that was unusual due to the heat and our visit being near the end of the school year, but nevertheless it was intrusive, as was the cigarette smoke that wafted up to our room (on the 1st floor which is really on the 4th, due to several floors above the lobby not being used for guest rooms). The included breakfast was extensive and good, featuring local cheeses as well as the standard Swiss array of breads, cold cuts, jams, cereals, and so on, and it was presented in a pleasant room, by what we found to be the hotel’s most pleasant staff, and with the option to eat outside on the patio. (Note, though, that eating outside means you’re with the smokers.) Otherwise, the hotel had an unpleasant feel to it (e.g., next door to a strip club), and I would recommend that people avoid it if at all possible
