Hotel Metropole

Hotel located at the heart of city, lot of shops, restaurants just next to hotel, you can access anywhere easily. Rooms are clean and comfort, guests can enjoy the free coffee bar to have a relaxing break after shopping.

Only stayed here two nights so it was fine. It meets your needs but that's about it. Which is fine for shorter term. Our room was fairly spacious for three people. They have free coffee and tea. Great location though. Very easy to explore old town.

Convenient location, very clean and affordable considering the location just a hundred yards or so from the bahnhof and a short walk from old town as well. Parking is a huge issue in Bern though, so take garage pricing into consideration if you book this hotel.

I stayed at the Metropole from May 15th to the 18th. The key card was made of soft plastic and there was a crack above the hole where it attached to the key ring. Because of the crack, the card was constantly falling off the ring, so it was only a matter of time before it got lost. When I reported it lost to the desk clerk, she told me that I would have to pay 50 Swiss Francs for a new one. When I explained that the card was lost because of the crack, she still insisted that I still had to pay and confirmed this with the manager. Because I had no other option I paid. This was totally unfair and I can't help but wonder if they deliberately give out defective key cards to guests to make extra money.

Pro The rooms were cosy and big with large french window, that provide sufficient lights into the room. I love the room as it has the homely feel to it due to the windows. Shower and toilet was separated (there was 3 of us). Warm room with heater. Basic 2-in-1 soap provided. Good location. Con Shower without door. Noisy at night due to the pub downstairs. We arrived at night and was shocked that the hotel door was locked. However, the sign at the door could be clear to ask us to go to the hotel opposite the road to check in.

I don't get all the negative comments. Hotel location is right in the city centre, the rooms are big and clean, beds are comfortable. What more? Ok, there is no reception on weekends or in the night, but you can always go to the Kreuz. Bathrooms are a little outdated, but big and clean. Would recommend

A little soulless but a good location (there again anywhere in bern old town is a good location as it's a very small area). Free tea and coffee in the 1st floor lounge is a nice touch but the 'one soap for everything' in the bathroom felt a little cheap. And a couple of extra pillows would have been welcomed although we didn't specifically ask for those and as Staff were helpful it's likely they would have produced some.

The hotel is in the middle of Bern, excellent location. The room seems very outdated. You need to run water quite long until you get hot water to come out. The water in the shower does not go down the drain quickly, so you are practically standing in the water to your ankles while showering. But the location is great and the price is reasonable.

There is no getting around that this is a basic hotel with little fancy about it. That said, it is perfectly acceptable in a utilitarian way. The rooms are clean, the bed comfortable, the bath adequate though the shower was a bit small. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is in the hotel across the street and decent enough (fairly typical European fare). The location near the train station and the old town is nice and there are a number of excellent restaurants in easy walking distance. My bag was lost (by American Airlines :( and I found emergency clothes (though expensive) near by. If I were here for work again, I would stay here happily enough. If I brought my wife with me, maybe I would look for a bit nicer place.

I stayed here for five days while attending a conference, and liked it a lot. The breakfast (across the street at the sister hotel) was quite good, with eggs, bacon, fruit, fresh bread, and everything else you would expect. The hotel is only about two blocks from the train station, and only a 10 minute walk to the University. It is in the center of the old town, near all the sites. The TV has CNN, BBC, CNBC, and many other channels. Internet is free and fast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
